I've been following this thread all year because I too am on the waitlist (though I think I may matriculate elsewhere if I were fortunate enough to get an acceptance here)...but I wanted to say I'm really happy for you, NMonte! You've been so eager to attend from the very beginning and it has shown in every post. Awesome work. Good luck to the rest of you waiting!

Hey guys! I was on the waitlist last year, didnt get in...decided I would rather forfeit going to another school so i could try to get into to UVM, where I really wanted to go! Just got off the waitlist today around 7! Cant wait to meet all my new classmates, and good luck to those of you who are still waiting! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!

Just got accepted! OOS applicant. I absolutely cannot believe it. Currently out celebrating my best friend's birthday when I got the email. Will definitely be accepting the position and joining the class of 2012.

Best of luck to all still on the waiting list. This was an extremely long process for me as a non-traditional applicant, so I know what you're all going through.

I know how you feel. Multiple wait-lists for me, 0 acceptances each of the last 3 years. One thing I've realized: not being accepted right away to medical school has no bearing on how smart you are, or how good of a doctor you are going to be. It's so competitive right now, with so many applicants, that it's almost become a crapshoot, for most of us, as to whether we are admitted.

The way I look at it - after 4 years of applying and raising my MCAT 3 different times - I dedicated my life to being a physician, so am I really going to give up because the first few years didn't go according to plan?

Hang in there and hold your head up - you'll be a physician someday if you want it bad enough.

Keep your head up guys (and gals). It took me three application cycles, hundreds of hours of frustrating reevaluation, 6+ months on this year's waitlist, and heaping helpings of self-doubt & introspection all while working 60h/wk to finally receive an acceptance.

It's a long, and too often unfair journey, but if you keep on keeping on, eventually you'll get there. Hopefully very soon.

I don't even know what I would do if I got accepted...it would literally be the best day of my life! At this point I'm not even concerned with debt, I just want to get in!

I think letters and phone calls made all the difference for me. I was accepted on July 29th last year two days after I called. I know my phone call mattered because the admissions office mentioned that conversation when they called to accept me 🙂

Is it safe to assume that the class is full by now and future acceptances off the WL will solely depend on the number of withdrawals of accepted folks?

I wish they'd be a little more transparent about this crazy process! I haven't started looking for apartments etc for another school that i'm accepted at because I'm still hopeful about UVM. *Sigh*

I imagine the reverse situation is true for some students who have been accepted to UVM and are waitlisted for their top choice. They can "accept" UVM's offer while they wait for their top choice to possibly accept them in the coming weeks/months.

If they are eventually accepted at their waitlist #1 choice, they can decline UVM. The only penalty is the $100 nonrefundable deposit to UVM to hold a spot.

If there are many people who go through this thought process, it creates a need for UVM to have a waitlist pool of applicants from which to pick from in the case their enrollment numbers dip too low. That much is probably obvious to many; the problem is that so many people are waitlisted at so many schools, and no one is bound to "commit" to any one school at this point--other than paying the initial $100 deposit. True, you can't hold multiple acceptances for long at this point in the season, but you can be waitlisted at any number of places. Hypothetically, if one accepts you next month and you like it better than UVM, you can switch.

I'm not sure where the UVM waitlist is at this point. We all can only speculate. Who would know anything other than the Admissions Committee? They do not provide information regarding waitlist numbers, predicted movement, or chances of admission. It remains a mystery. Giving waitlisters an update of some sort would be helpful.

Exactly my thought. If the class is full, why wouldn't they let us know? A closure is all I need at this point so that I could get over this school. UVM, it hurts!

That makes sense from their standpoint. It is just painful to be stranded on the other side of the spectrum. 😡

From a recent call to admissions: they expect some waitlist movement at the end of this week or beginning of next week.

Like MonteMartian said, there are certainly some people holding a UVM acceptance who are planning to withdraw if they get off the waitlist at their preferred school. I wouldn't count a class as full until classes begin, so until then.
