Yes, if you have an early interview you may leave after the tour.

I don't think that's true, I think you have to stay till 3:30 even if you're one of the early interviewees because they might accept some people for a 2nd interview. I remember reading it on the packet.

So, I'm slightly confused about the wording of the II. So if you have an early interview, like 830 can you be done at after the tour? or do you need to stay until 330?

"VCU School of Medicine Admissions Committee is completing a pilot study to include a second interview during your interview day. A random selection process is being used. The second interview will last twenty minutes and occur between 2:30 - 3:30 PM.Please plan to be with us on campus until 3:30 PM. The second interview rating will not be shared with the committee until after the committee discussion and vote on your application." I think you can figure out what that means or I hope you can? lol what you score on the VR section?

No need to be rude when you have issues as well...

I apologize I did not mean it in that way.

It was pretty high, and why would you attack me for asking a question????

"During these two sessions you will receive information on how the admissions process works, financial aid, curriculum, student life and a wealth of other details. If your interview is scheduled in the morning, you are free to leave after the tour. If your interview is in the afternoon, please join us no later than 11:00 a.m., and you will have completed your day immediately after your interview."

Directly out of the invitation, I think I have a valid question. Maybe you need to read a little more throughly before lashing out?

I don't think he was lashing out, to me it seemed like he was just trying to joke with you, don't take things so personally. Also, your question would be valid only if you did not receive the information that CopaceticOne posted. Though I assume everyone got that information.

So, putting two and two together...if you were selected for the second interview, you can't leave. If you weren't, you can. You'll find out if you were chosen for the pilot study interview in the morning when you get to admissions.

When I first got my interview it mentioned the second interview....now it is isn't on the page anymore??? Or do they let you know the day of?

I asked Admissions about this, and they said that they're actually not doing the second interview trial because it was such a flop last year. Why they haven't taken that out of the info this year, I don't know. Also, this is dumb, but the M2 Tour Guide picture that you find on the link is from last year. Looks like a lot just hasn't really been updated yet.

i sent extra ones, but then again i haven't heard anything beyond "may"! haha

Why does it take them forever to upload the letters. I'm dying here.

Just got the "May" status 09/12. Complete 09/02. I'm impressed with the quick turn around. International applicant, for what its worth. This was my favourite "why our school" essay because they had so much info available to talk about!

I was reading through last years threads. It doesn't seem like VCU blatantly rejects people post-interview. Seems like they either accept or just keep dragging you along to the wait-list eventually. Anyone else vouch for this? Thanks!

WHATT?!?!?! now im scared!

and citrusguy, i'm sorry to hear about that. 🙁

Hey guys! I'm completely new to this forum and don't even know if I'm typing this up in the right place.

But basically, VCU Medicine is one of my top choices simply because it lets me be close to most of my family members in the Northern Virginia (even though I'm technically OOS)!

I was wondering if anyone knows, on average, how many people who get admitted or apply to VCU indicate the INOVA preference? Like does anyone know how hard it is to get the INOVA spots (Dr. Whitehurst-Cook told me they give out 30 spots now rather than 24)...

Hey guys! I actually have one more question. On my first post, I put that I'm technically out-of-state, but now that I think about it, I don't know how to classify myself.

I have a Virginia driver's license, my car is titled/registered in Virginia, I have voter's registration in Virginia, and I've filed income taxes for Virginia. I went to a Virginia four-year university. I have relatives all over the Northern Virginia area and live with some of them up there.

BUT

My parents live in West Virginia (which sucks since I'm literally 10 minutes away from the Virginia border)

Would you guys say I'm an OOS applicant or an IS applicant? I filed income taxes for Virginia, but most of my tuition probably would come from my parents. Anyone can help me out in figuring this out or offer advice as to what I should do?

THANKS!!!

When did you graduate? Are you working now, if so is it in VA? Were you an IS student during your undergrad?

If you just graduated and were paying OOS tuition, you may not be IS. But otherwise, you'll probably pass all of the IS screens...

If your parents have been claiming you as a dependent for taxes, that makes things a little fuzzier. If not, I would say you are IS.

I think it's best to just call or email VCU with respect to sensitive matters like these. They will give you better advice than what you will get on SDN.

MAY status today, "Forwarded to committee" yesterday. Damn, that's fast.

Anybody with a MAY status ever get an II?

From what I've seen from past years, the majority of people with the MAY status will get selected for an interview. Although earlier in this thread someone went from the MAY status to rejected, which really surprised me.

wow i was so confused... i thought you were "may" first and then forwarded to committee, haha! a lot of people with "may" statuses seemed to have received II's so far but i'm still waiting on mine :xf:

I am "MAY"/IS and still waiting on an II too. I think we went to the same high school.

haha, sorry about that.

So, there is hope!

Thanks for that advice! I just called the office, and they said that since I have all those Virginia credentials (especially the income taxes I've paid to the state) and demonstrate intent to stay in Virginia permanently, that I can go ahead and apply as an In-State student and I'd go through the whole admissions cycle as a Virginia resident.

But determination as to whether or not I classify as a Virginia resident for tuition purposes would be made after acceptance. So that's good news for me haha

She did say that because I've had all those things (driver's license, voter's registration, etc.) for almost three years that that helps prove my case even more. And she also gave me someone else to contact about it

Well if you're a VA resident most likely you will get an interview a lot easier than OOS folks. 49.5 % of VA applicants get an interview and 50.2 % of the people that interview get an acceptance. OOS has a lot of applicants therefore a lot more competitive. Good luck!

I am "MAY"/IS and still waiting on an II too. I think we went to the same high school.

So I've had the "further" status since 8/25. I've been anxiously awaiting word, and it seems like I'm not the only one. Maybe it would be more efficient for all of us looking through the thread at the "may"s and "further"s if we compiled a list of what message we received when? Like the AMCAS Verification Thread, but specifically for VCU post-secondary developments? That way we don't have to keep going back and forth through this 14 page (and growing!) thread... 🙄

e.g. (I just added what I saw so far in the thread, by no means comprehensive)

Is this really worth it. Basically flooding this thread with data that doesn't mean all that much.

I agree with you that it takes up space, but people have been posting these sorts of updates in this thread anyways. It streamlines the process for those of us with MAY/FURTHER statuses to find what we're looking for here.

Also, I know there hasn't been any obvious correlation, but I feel like those distinct statuses must be given for a reason. Maybe if we post it this way we might actually be able to quantify the actual number of IIs / rejections per list and see if there's a pattern during this cycle? It's slightly OCD, but don't a lot of us get slightly anal-retentive during this waiting game?

The only reason I say it is that it could possibly lead to identifying applicants...

We don't know who reads these threads. Adcoms probably think things like this are hilarious...

this is incredibly stupid, why would you waste the time to compile this and fill up the thread with this useless information? Either you get an interview or you don't, there's no point in wasting your time rechecking this thread time and time again, concerning yourself with if/when anyone else got an interview, and now taking the time to construct this stupid chart.

i agree it seems like a bunch of pointless data, but (1) we're all posting it anyway, just throughout the thread ["i got a may!" "i got further... what does that mean?" "how long till i get my interview invite?"] so it might be easier to have it all in one place, and (2) you get people who are newcomers to the thread who don't want to sort through 14+ pages and might want to know answers to the same questions above, sooooooo it might be easier to have it all in one place.

I think the sheer amount of applicants prevents ID'ing applicants based on date. Plus, I prefer to think adcoms are more preoccupied with evaluating AMCAS primaries / secondary screening, reading secondaries, issuing IIs and evaluating interviewed candidates for acceptance...than trying to deduce who is putting their date of status update / II / rejection on SDN.

I think to a lot of people here, it's helpful and saves time. But I understand that others that think it's a flood of useless info...then again, people have been posting this type of info all along. The posts are just more organized (albeit lengthier) now. And at least it eliminates the majority of the "what does may/further mean" q's.

honestly at this point it is fairly obvious that MAY > Further.....still haven't received an invite since further status on 07/14/11

umm.. looks like YOU'RE "wasting your time rechecking this thread time and time again..." seeing as you're reading and commenting on it. So.. I probably wouldn't talk.

Did anyone else get a completely unexpected rejection this evening? I have interviewed at VCU twice, and just completed Georgetown's SMP. I submitted my secondary a few days ago and just got a rejection. I don't see how this is even possible. How could they have read my secondary already, and why would they send me one in the first place? This is crazy.

MAY status a month ago, still nothing...ahhh!

hey,

so i was complete (verified and committee letter) in mid august. I hadnt heard from VCU (so far I have gotten 30 secondaries and two interview invites), so I thought I was going to get rejected pre-secondary. However, I just got a secondary invite (I was completely surprised). I am OOS. Do I have a chance at this school? Im really confused.
