Anyone hear back their 3 yr ph.d. to md program?

Anyone tried sending in recommendation letters post-interview? Do you need to send it through the AMCAS Letter Service or just email it to the admissions people?

Has anybody heard from the Columbia Bassett program? Have they started or already completed their interviews for the program? Anyone go on an interview and want to talk a little about the experience? Thanks and hope everyone is doing well!

Definitely have started, don't think they have finished.

That makes 3 of us. Anyone else applying to this program?

I did. Haven't heard anything yet. I don't have a good feeling about this one. I know two ppl that have gotten interviews for this. One applied early. The other one applied later than me but its her alma mater.

Did anyone get a letter from Dean Nicholas via email post-interview?

Do you guys plan on sending an update in mid-Feb like the letter said?

Hmm, mine didn't say anything about sending in an update. What did Dean Nicholas say in yours?

"Thank you very much for your letter of [interview date]. [Interviewer name] enjoyed her interview with you, and I enjoyed meeting you during my group meeting. I very much appreciate the enthusiasm for P&S that you have expressed. It is a very special place.

Although it is too soon to know definitely how things will go this year, I can assure you that the Admissions Committee will keep you very strongly in mind. It would be helpful to us if you provide us with an update prior to mid-February. "

You?

Hmm, it was pretty much the same thing verbatim, minus the send an update at the end. Let me PM it to you. Gahh, this whole process is a complete mind****.

Finally got it too. Been waiting for that. Mine asked for an update. I wouldn't look into it at all, dude.

Choose your own adventure:

1) being asked for an update is a good sign! It means they're interested in you and want to make sure you're continuing to perform before accepting you into their glorious marble halls! No update request? No interest.

2) being asked for an update means there isn't enough to accept you yet, but not having that included means you're already golden! They don't need any more information - you're awesome, they're awesome, and you're going to walk hand in hand into the sunset, being awesome together!

(If you figured out how many people get each, you could probably figure out which is which. Chances are more likely a secretary puts it all together and you'll find numerous differences between different peoples'.)

😛

Hey everyone -

I'm sure someone has already asked this, but since I don't have the stamina to go back through all the posts, I was hoping someone who knows could let me know? Thank you! 😀

You didn't ask a question...

Be nice to Bearstronaut, guys. How often do you see a bear in a spacesuit?

BEEN CONTEMPLATING THIS ALL DAY!

Better to assume the second and send a beautiful update in January, since I was asked. Rawr!

Agreed! I actually just got the letter minutes ago. Mine also asked for an update. Hopefully it doesn't mean they're expecting a ground breaking update in order to keep their interest... Haha I still have a full time stable job so not much different on that front.

Does anyone else have one of the no update letters?

I do. It probably means nothing. If they ask for an update, send one. If they don't, but you have something meaningful to add, send one anyways. No biggie.

Did anyone receive something on the lines of "I think you would enjoy being a student at P&S, and from my point-of-view it would be great to have you with us"? I'm not sure what to make of this.

yup...i think it's a positive thing

I'm pretty sure that the letters are (for the most part) written independently from the looks of things. And wangers, some applicants are easy to pick out of the pile, just remain humble on here. 🙂 that kind of goes for everyone, too. Best of luck!

Since they don't make decisions until February, it likely has no bearing on your ultimate result, and is just in line with your numbers. From what I've seen how nice an ending you get on your letter correlates to either your interviewing with the dean, or your MCAT score.

It would probably take very little time for an adcom to pick out wangers, unless their whole profile is fake. I'm sure she already knows that.

I really hope it's just MCAT or something! I thought my best interview was here, and I really hope I'm still actually a strong candidate. I know it's really silly, but this thread in the past day has made me feel really horribly about myself and my chances at Columbia, haha.

I think we all have to remember that we were selected to interview for a reason, and even if we don't have a 43 MCAT like wangers or other such amazing stats that come up here on SDN, that we're still worthwhile candidates for these schools. I have to keep reminding myself of that!! Chins up everyone, and start drafting those stellar updates 😉

Don't let wangers get you down, haha. It's hard to be happy about your own successes in a way that doesn't make other applicants feel awful, but she does spend a great amount of time thinking of the other applicants. Or maybe she just likes withdrawing from schools. 😛

It'll work out. Columbia's at the top, though, so don't get too invested. There're no guarantees for anyone at that level.

As a pessimist at heart, I'm so not getting into this school. Considering the chances are less than 30% post-interview. Oh well.

So what did people like about their Columbia interviews? Besides Bard Hall 😛

I will say this for Bard Hall, it has amazing water pressure. So strong that you wake up just from the fight to survive the onslaught. Also the only thing capable of removing anatomy smell from skin.

hahaha oh yea! I remember taking many a shower in Bard and it's like getting hosed. I like everything about the interview. The students are amazingly smart, accomplished, and sweet. Dean Nicholas did a great job at welcoming us interviewees.

sorry everyoneeee i didn't mean to come off as obnoxious, but you're right it's hard to say anything without making others more anxious 🙁 anyways, by getting an interview to columbia you're all cream of the crop applicants! yeah i really want to give everyone a better chance at schools i won't go to rather than hogging all the seats. anyone who interviewed here will end up at a great med school i'm sure!! 😍😍😍

and to the earlier comment, yeah i guess my mdapps has enough info for adcoms to find me, but it's okay because i made an mdapps to help future applicants and don't have anything to hide

I think wangers is doing a great job withdrawing from schools to give others a chance, others lucky enough in the same boat should repeat to hopefully calm the mind boggling panic of everyone else. It's awesome that she's successful, I'm hoping that she'll sweep all acceptances from all schools she applied to! I hope for success for others as well, everyone who has stressed balls/lost sleep/time in this cycle and worked ridiculously hard for the past 4+ years should get in somewhere.

Happy Holidays everyone, I'm checking out of SDN for the new year! May your stockings be stuffed full of invites/ acceptances when you awake for Christmas/ whatever holiday you want to celebrate.

Hey, I would hope Wangers would get in almost everywhere. If she can't get in, not many other people could. 😆

Killer applicants can only take up one seat, just like everyone else. There's no reason to be apprehensive about people succeeding for that alone.

Anyway... Back to Columbia...

How are the post-Bard tower apartments? I heard they're nice.

+1. It got me really excited until I read this thread lol. I am planning to write a letter of intent but I want to wait until its a little closer to decision time. It is my dream school, but I'm obviously not getting my hopes up! Good luck to everyone!

Towers I and II are great places to live in - very, very nice views, spacious rooms, decent kitchens, and tons of other Columbians live there (public health and grad students included). Laundry rooms are one washing machine and one dryer on every floor, I believe. Some of my friends live there now, and they love it.

hey does anyone think columbia is still handing out interviews? do their interviews go thru LATE february or early february? still hoping for this one!

They should be. Last year, they end their interviews in early February. I dunno how many they are still planning to give out though

Subject line doesn't show up on the mobile app. You don't have to be mean about it. 🙁

Hey Bearstronaut!
Wasn't being mean; just indicating where to look. I know typed lines don't indicate tone very well..haha, so, sorry for the miscommunication. 🙂

For everyone else: waiting eagerly for this alleged Dr. Nicholas e-mail. Congrats to Wangers for that positive note!!
