Do you guys think I would make a 5:08pm flight? If not this flight, I would have to fly out the next day.

google map says the omaha airport is 11 mins away so assuming it won't be busy then you should be fine.

Just got an II today as well. Does anyone know if these interviews will be for waitlist spots only?

No, they'll accept people through the last interviews in March. I know several people who were accepted in March last year. Also, of 600+ interviews last year, 400+ were ultimately offered admission. So they have a lot of turnover in the waitlist. Creighton has a pretty small deposit, and it's refundable. So a lot of people get in, send their deposit, then end up getting into their state school or elswhere and don't end up going to Creighton. I think they even pulled someone off the waitlist 2 weeks before classes started this year.

You could make it. I interviewed yesterday, and my last tour wrapped up at about 3:30. It takes 15 minutes tops to get to the airport from campus, and security at the Omaha airport rarely takes longer than 20 mins to get through.

I booked my flight for 5:08pm too! So I'm banking on that working, which sounds like it will.

Okay, I need some advice. I'm holding an acceptance at SLU, which is a pretty comparable school to Creighton. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the time and money interviewing at Creighton. Could anyone provide insight on the significant differences between these two schools and programs? It would be extremely helpful.

I don't know much about SLU specifically, but if you didn't fall in love with it enough to the point where there's even a question here, I'd say interview at Creighton. Med school is really hard, and you want to be somewhere you KNOW you'll be happy. Creighton's a pretty amazing environment, from what I've seen. I wouldn't recommend anyone pass up the chance to at least check it out.

I've interviewed at both. They are similar, but I know if I got accepted to SLU (already accepted at Creighton) I'd have a hard time deciding. I'd go!

Thanks for your input, all very valid. I decided I'm going to the interview, you never know what school you might fall in love with until you see and experience it for yourself!

For those who are already accepted, are you leaning more towards selecting Omaha of Phoenix for M3 & M4 clinical training? What are some pros and cons for both locations?

I selected Pheonix because it was my understanding that the Pheonix campus is the one more highly sought after, and that there is a waitlist each year for people who want to go to it. Furthermore, you can change your preference later on. Therefore, it's a lot easier to be offered the Pheonix campus and decide you want to stay in Omaha than vice versa.. hope that helps!

I will be interviewing at Creighton in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know the interview format or have any advice for interview day? Also, how long did you have to wait between interview and admissions decisions (acceptance/denial)?

Thanks!! :)

very relaxed and conversational. have a good time getting to know people at breakfast and lunch, and don't stress too much!

the website is telling me 4-6 weeks. i think Carolyn told us that feb 1 and feb 8 interviews go to committee about 4 weeks from now. so, we should know pretty soon!

Yep that's what I ended up selecting as well. But you can't go wrong with either choice!!!

http://medschool.creighton.edu/medicine/admin/staffairs/financial/scholarships/index.php

I think the only other scholarships are the ones mentioned here in the above link: The Medical Dean's Magis Scholarships, and The Creighton Family Medical Scholarship - for Creighton Undergrads.

Does anyone know how easy it is to keep the scholarship each year? The email they sent made it seem like you just have to pass each year to renew it, but do you have to do more? Like super high grades or anything?

I interviewed last Friday. Last year they interviewed 670ish applicants, and they gave out 450ish acceptances I believe. I think of that 220ish difference they gave out like two rejections . Don't quote me, but I think it's a really low number. Basically you'd have to screw something up pretty badly in your interview to not get at least on the alternate list

This is about right from what I remember. There is a lot of movement of applicants from Creighton.

Good luck to you guys interviewing this next month! I know quite a few people who were accepted after their March interviews last year.

Thanks for the info! I was a little worried that my chances were slim to none interviewing this late.

So I called last Thursday and the Admissions Counselor told me they would make a decision on my application this week or the next (interviewed 1/11). To all those who called to see if they were accepted, did you talk to a counselor or just someone in the office?

I think this scholarship solely requires that you successfully move on to the next year.

Just call the front office and they'll pull up your file and tell you. At least that's what I did last year. Best of luck

Are interview invites still being handed out? Or does Creighton silent reject?

Creighton is still handing out interviews (a friend was invited last week) and sending out acceptance (I received my acceptance yesterday!) YAY Last year a friend (currently an M1 at Creighton) was accepted in the beginning of June...so I think there is still time and people stand a good chance at being accepted off the wait list.

Ok...now I need some advice. I was accepted to Creighton and University of New Mexico (my home state). Is Creighton worth the money ($50k vs $16k tuition). I did my undergrad at Creighton and absolutely loved it! I was really impressed during the interview as well. Thanks everyone and good luck!

It's hard to justify an extra $136,000 + interest even for a top school... I would almost definitely stick to the state school if I were you. Congrats on the acceptances!

That's how I see it. Right now I am trying to decide between VCU (figuring in becoming an IS resident after the first year since I will have a spouse) and Creighton and the difference between COA is going to be less than $10,000. If it was more than $15,000 the decision would be even easier to make.

Also factor in moving costs to the decision making. Many people forgot that it can cost a couple grand to move, especially if you are changing coasts.

While money definitely should be included into the equation, don't ever make any decision based solely on the money. You have to include the intangibles. I was in a similar situation (trying to decide between my cheaper state school and CUSOM) last year. I am so glad I picked Creighton. I know some very unhappy people at that state school that really wish they would have gone somewhere else. Make sure you do your research and pick whichever one you will be the happiest at. While it is a lot of money, medical school is a very long and tough process and you don't want to end up in a place that you are unhappy, because that will just make it worse. Research the curriculum, the electives, the rotations, how the school selects its students, how it evaluates its students (do you want to be at a school that ranks and pits its students against each other, or do you want to be in a more communal environment), how happy were the students that interviewed/gave tours, how tired did they look. All of these things should be taken into consideration. Most people that make money the end all be all in their decisions are the people that are unhappy with where they are/what they are doing. IMHO

I think that is really great advice. So why did you pick Creighton over your state school?

PS thank you everyone for answering. Your responses were all extremely helpful. GOOD LUCK
