Although there is movement it's not much. Last years thread made it sound like a death sentence. Unfortunately I've been on this status since late July due to my lack of a non science faculty lor 🙁

Do you know this for sure? Curious because I also don't have one, but when I contacted Loyola, they told me to go ahead with the app. I'd be ticked if I was told that and yet still put on hold until rejection for only that reason. (I was complete early August and have had this status seemingly forever, but I was assuming it was for some valid reason.)

I was also told to send in my app. I'm not sure this is the reason our apps are on hold, but I'm assuming it puts us at a disadvantage. Another school (NYMD) has the same requirement and they said if we submit our apps anyhow they'll take take it, but we will be at a disadvantage. I'm assuming something similar to this happens at Loyola as well, but I could be completely off the mark.

For real!? Haha, I've thought about you multiple times today, wondering if you were going to get the letter. Sorry it didn't arrive...maybe tomorrow!

Stritch took my employer LOR for a non-science. I don't have non-science faculty.

Oh nice! I tried getting them to take my PI or my shadowing letter as a non-science faculty, but they didn't give me an answer either way. They just told me to submit it all 🙄

I didn't even ask. Just submitted all 6 of my letters lol.

Haha maybe thats the way to do it! The other person and I both asked and got put on hold! I'm just going to say thats why we're on hold  I hope you hear good news back soon!

Thanks guys. When I checked my mail today there were 3 envelopes in there. When I saw that they were all junk mail I literally said (out loud) "are you serious!?!?!?"

Can any current students comment on the benefits/cons of the block scheduling?

That's good to know, seeing as how you got an interview. I asked them to take my volunteer coordinator.

That would suck...if true, it seems like just a ploy for money. I'd like to think the schools are better than that! Any luck at NYMC? I didn't apply there.

Nope 🙁 Just sitting around waiting.

Obviously I'm not a med student, but my girlfriend (MS3 whom I've lived with since she was an MS1) goes to a school with organ system blocks and she really liked it. Pros are you get to focus on one system at a time, cons are you don't get a lot of integration/connections taught in class. She said it was fine though and she was able to make the detailed connections on her own. She did very well on Step 1 (257) so I'd say it worked for her.

NYMC actually told me my application wouldn't be considered if I didn't submit LORs from UG (not post-bacc).

Edit: A little more detail to clarify a bit. I finished UG in 2010 and have 0 LORs from UG professors. On their secondary NYMC is very clear that if you graduated before 2010 you can submit LORs from post-bacc, but if you graduated in 2010 or more recently, then you must have LORs from UG. Obviously this isn't the same situation as non-science LORs, but I think the stringency may apply.

i can't believe you haven't heard yet! i'm agonizing for you..

👎

This sitting around and waiting is for the birds! (I don't even know what that means, but it works.) I try to ignore my computer, but I undoubtably check every few hours. There's never anything good there.

It wasn't so bad when I thought it would be a phone call/email. Now I stress about checking my mail (I live in an apt complex and the mailboxes aren't on the way in/out).

How I imagine MedPR:

Hey ME TOO! Just checked and I've got the same hold status -.- I also emailed them about my letter because I'm non-trad.

guess the waiting begins!

MedPR, will they not just tell you by phone when you call? They have to have a plan B for making sure applicants know their status in case a letter is lost in the mail?

I would call them and say you believe your letter is lost. Chances are they haven't even made a decision/sent your letter yet.

I may do this next Thursday if I haven't received a letter by then.

Hoping today is your day, MedPR! 🙂

Dude, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're application hasn't even been looked at yet. You certainly should have received it by now. I would call right now, if I were you, before they close, and tell them your situation. Be nice, but a bit forceful, and tell them that you called last week, were told that your letter was mailed, but you still haven't received it. The staff is nice, and I'm sure they'll help you.

Status page says to call on Thursdays so I'll call tomorrow.

I don't know when I was complete but I submitted my secondary in mid-August.

Best of luck to everyone!

I had the same experience with another school who said they don't give out decisions over the phone. Apparently some people were able to find out over the phone, because instead of asking for a decision, they just asked "can you please check my status." I guess once the admissions office person saw on their screen that the applicant had been accepted, then in some cases they would just tell them the good news. You can always try this at Loyola, not sure if it'll work, but it's worth a shot! Good luck!

I check this thread like every day hoping you get an acceptance. Glad to see I'm not the only one! And I hope you hear something soon!!

Well I'm already in panic mode that the person I talked to saw my status and didn't want to tell me over the phone that I am rejected.

Serious? Sorry to hear that...

Unless my dad is illiterate or for some reason wanted to be the ultimate prankster today (highly unlikely), yup he said I was outright rejected.

Ugh that's rough man, I'm sorry. When did you interview?

You essentially got into UIC today. You'll do fine, buddy.

Truth. I'll be a lot happier when I get the illustrious fat packet though. Truth be told it was going to be a toss up if I got in both since I was interested in one of the dual degrees.

Also, did I see that you also had movement?

How does one essentially get in somewhere?

No letter today.

I'm interviewing here next monday! Very excited! Did they give you all a time frame you would hear back in? I would like to know about when I will get a decision.

Also, I've mostly just been lurking, but I'm rooting for you MedPR

They tell you at your interview what day the admissions committtee will meet to talk about you. You MAY hear that day if you're accepted, otherwise you wait for a letter, which can be anything - acceptance, waitlist, rejection. Or you can get caught in limbo like poor MedPR.
