Hey guys,

I don't usually post things here, but I just spoke with someone at the admission office. They are still sending out e-mails for wait lists and rejections until end of this week. So, keep your hopes up!

Well someone I know did get an email today saying they were on the waitlist. I think if we haven't gotten an email it means we didn't get in.

I'm confused because I got waitlisted at MCG last year but rejected from Mercer last year. I improved my mcat score by 5 points and then got waitlisted this year at MCG again and I guess rejected by Mercer again. I'm just surprised that Mercer would reject me with an MCAT score that's 5 points higher than what was good enough to get me on MCG's waitlist last year since Mercer's avg. MCAT score is less than MCG's. I suspect that it has something to do with not having volunteer work associated with a church. I was raised in a secular household and we never went to church. If that's the case then I'm really disappointed with them because a.) that's not really my fault and b.) medicine is science and it shouldn't matter.

Maybe it's because they don't think I'm "Georgia" enough. My dad was in the Air Force so I don't really have a southern accent...even though every single member of my family lives in Georgia.

Those are the only reasons I can think of that MCG would want me but not Mercer, but I really hope it's not one of those reasons.

Do you guys mind sharing stats?

MCG and Mercer are totally different schools looking for different things, MCAT doesn't matter to either, honestly, if you get an interview. It's experiences outside of the classroom, how you got to where you are, and what makes you different that matters. Both schools probably received hundreds of applications with MCAT scores much higher than yours, and accepted many people with much lower scores that yours.

Your point about your family...If you have a Georgia residency status, you can come to Mercer. There are several people here who have no connection other than going to college in Georgia and then working here for a year, even though the rest of their family is from up north. Military "brats" are here too. Sure, it helps, Mercer wants people who want to stay in Georgia...So if your whole family is here, and you didn't tell them your dream is to be a plastic surgeon in LA, there's not an issue there.

Lastly - I'd say a high majority of people currently enrolled at Mercer have no church/religious volunteer experience. Probably a good many have never even stepped through the door of a church.

My guess is your stats and application are fine to be able to get interviews at both - it shows they're interested in giving you a chance - there's just something lacking with the interview portion that's keeping you from getting over the waitlist hump. You can try contacting the deans of admission at whichever Mercer campus you wanted to attend and see if they have any pointers. It also wouldn't hurt to send an update letter or maybe a letter of intent (I don't think those work, but it can probably only help).

For those of you on the waitlist - chin up, there's hope. Two years ago (not sure about the past incoming class) there was heavy movement in Savannah, probably 10 or so who withdrew (not sure about Macon, but I'd assume similar) who were initially accepted. So the waitlist does move. And it can still move all the way up to the first day in class in August. Best of luck

Thank you for responding and for the well wishes. I'll take your advice and remain hopeful. 🙂

Rejected. :/ For the second time.
3.47 Undergrad, 3.98 Post-bac/science, 29 MCAT.

Congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck to everyone on the alternate list!
Staying hopeful that I'll come off the alternate list at MCG. 🙂

Does anyone know if the alternate list a lot smaller at Mercer than it is at MCG?

Joined the official waitlist party today!

Waitlisted ... does anyone know the odds of being accepted off the waitlist?

officially rejected :/ 3.6 cgpa, 3.55 sgpa, 27 mcat....congrats and goodluck to all of you still on the waitlist...guess I was destined to end up in florida!

Dang! My "Thank You" notes just got returned in the mail. I wonder if that had something to do with not getting on the wait list. I wrote the addresses from their business cards but I realized I probably should have put "Office of Admissions" instead of just their name and the 1550 address.

I guess I deserve to not get in for doing something that stupid.

How did you get into a Florida school? Aren't they strict about state residency?

Sent from my VS910 4G using SDN Mobile

It starts with an H. I interviewed in October and havent heard a word.

I'm kind of curious about the order as well... doesn't make any sense... anyway make sure to check your junkmail... that's where I found my email

For those that got rejected. I was rejected last year and found Mercer very helpful in telling me what to improve on for next year. You can get in touch with Leslie Jackson and arrange an exit interview with her. She was doing the exit interviews last year, and if that's changed, she would be able to tell you who to contact. It's not a matter of if you get into medical school, it's when. Best of luck and keep at it!

Consider applying early decision if you are not accepted this cycle. It improves your chances a lot and you will know if you are accepted before October.

For the previous poster, transitional/ prelim years are required internships before entering certain fields (deem, radiology, anesthesia, etc).

^^^ This

Half of the classes (no set guideline, just always tends to be near 50%) come from early decision. Mercer wants to know that you want to come to Mercer and that you're interested in the PBL style of learning. They want people who don't see them as a backup school (they very well may be to you, but they want students whose career goals align with their mission, and 'Mercer Or Bust!' is shown better with ED)

alternate list at mercer is 150 people for the question earlier. Got my rejection last night also, congrats to those accepted and those waitlisted!

I will be applying "Mercer Or bust" (i.e. Eary Decision) next cycle. Heck, what's one more year! 🙂

Congrats to those who received acceptances as this year was apparently one of the most competitive years ever for Mercer. There are about 20 or so people with acceptances that are doubly accepted to other schools, and that number should grow as acceptance deadlines approach. That being said, the word is there are over 150 people on the waiting list, and I would expect to see some movement off that list.

If you didn't get in, don't give up. Look at your areas of weakness and improve in those areas. Do research. Go work in a ER. Do something to show that you're committed to the field of medicine. In the end you will be better for it. Look at your stats and see where you stand. If you're borderline, apply early.

As for the question about transitional or preliminary residency spots, typically some specialities like Anesthesia, Rads, Derm, and Optho require a year of experience before starting the program. The main difference between the two is that in a transitional year you spend time on a variety of services while in a pre-lim spot you are concentrated in one area.

150 people on the waitlist?! And you're not allowed to know where you rank on that list? Man, things just getting tougher and tougher.

if you're on the wait list shouldn't you be happy about that? Just keep hope, it's a tough process no matter what so just be patient. Keep in touch with the school and prepare for what to do if you don't get accepted. Good luck guys.

Anyone know when we should be receiving our fin aid packages?

Rejected

30mcat 3.97gpa 😕

So, apparently my rejection was a mistake. I was supposed to be put on the alternate list, and a couple of days later I was accepted lol.

Rejected, wait-listed, then accepted in the span of about a week! 😕

Wow haha. Congrats

I've got a question for those of you who applied this last application cycle.

I just took the MCAT, but really screwed up the PS section so I voided. I am rescheduled for July 13th so my score will release in mid-August. If everything is complete by that time, will my application for the next cycle be considered rather late for Mercer? (i know SDNers like to apply super early and Mercer is known for filling spaces rather quickly)

Also did anyone NOT turn in a committee letter get accepted? I am concerned that my pre-med committee will make me wait until my score gets back to interview me which pushes my completion date back to September...not a choice at all!! So I am considering sending in 3 individual professor letters instead. Have anyone come across this issue too?

I just got accepted off the waitlist today!! Made a page just to post this so you guys know movement has begun!

Fellow waitlister here for the second year. Does anyone know if there has been any wait list movement? Does Mercer have much movement?

Wow what a journey. After a few years trolling these boards about the mcat, interviews, and being wait list.... I was accept Friday off the waitlist.

What an amazing feeling...now the real journey begins!

Wow that's amazing! Congratulations and good luck to you! 🙂 Hopefully I'll hear the good news too.

Congrats! Fingers crossed for more waitlist movement.

Would you mind sharing your stats? I am about to apply first time for EDP for entering class 2014, just curious who was accepted for this year. Thanks!

Anyone know if the waitlist is moving or not?

It's been my understanding and experience so far that there is very little movement on any of the MD school waitlists especially in the east coast. I know another school I'm waitlisted at is moving slower than it has historically this year even though they added more seats...this has been a bad year to be waitlisted it seems 🙁
