I just mean that no one posted about them, so the forum is pretty empty of acceptance announcements. Crazy.

Is there a lot of movement off the alternate list?

Is there a lot of movement off the alternate list?

In past years there appears to have been some movement, but I wonder if that will change this year since they've had more people at each Interview Day. However someone did mention that although there were more people per day, there were fewer days overall so who knows.

Yeah, it seems like the consensus is that there is some movement off the list. I will just have to keep sending updates and staying active, so when May 15th comes around, I'm frickin' ready!

Has anyone received an email today? I am trying to find out if I haven't received one by now, what that means?

Did you here anything today?
Yup, I'm an alternate. I got the email about 8am today. I've found them to be very responsive, so send an email if you haven't heard anything yet. Or check your status.

I wouldn't make that assumption a fact, SDNers who read/post on a near daily basis represent maybe 2% of total applicants.
Nice. I always have wondered how many people are on this SDN jazz, and which schools might attract more forum posters. 2%. It might even be less this late in the game.

Haha that number was a total guess, but even 2% of daily active users would still be closing in on 1,000 applicants. I'm sure the percentage is even higher for weekly and monthly users, not to mention all those lurkers... :ninja:

Question - My background check came back clear about 1 mo ago (I received the acceptance call in January) and I still don't have my official acceptance letter yet! Are any of you in the same boat? I'm holding another acceptance until I get my official letter from MSU - Now that schools know where else we hold acceptances do you think they haven't sent my official letter because I'm holding multiples? Does anyone hear of schools...changing their mind???? Sometimes this all seems too good to be true...I just want to get my letter! It's making me sad!!! :'( Anyone else in this situation???

Just FYI...

Had lunch yesterday with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (w/ a bunch of other students). For 2012, the average Step 1 score for MSU students was 227. This is exactly at the national average for 2012. Also, the MSU first-time pass rate was 98%.

For everyone on the alternate list--last year there was a decent amount of movement, but it really depends on they year and applicant pool.

I'm pretty sure we interviewed the same number of applicants this year, just fewer days with more applicants.

Thanks for the info!

I'm on the alternate list this year and I was on it last year and I believe there wasn't movement till June to mid June perhaps. I remember it being may 15th and none of us had heard anything. It was definitely a stressful time and I ultimately was let go on June 4 🙁 but let's hope for the opposite result this cycle! MSU CHM is unequivocally my school of choice.

And also, I'm not sure at all how much movement there even was last cycle. It'd be great to know how many got in off the alternate list.

It's very difficult to predict alternate list movement from year to year. Last year there was very little. However, the year before there was some decent movement. I would encourage everyone on the alternate list to stay patient, and send in meaningful updates.

I wouldn't say last year was very little, there are quite a few people in GR who were alternate and wait listed who got in.

But I do know a few years ago there was little-no movement, so like we've said, it really depends on the year, and on how many people who came to interviews saying "this is my top choice" were actually telling the truth

On that note, I've done interviews on almost every day, and I've only had one interviewee get accepted so far (they don't tell us if they reject or waitlist the interviewee, just if they get accepted), so perhaps they are being more selective this year? Or the MMI is doing a better job of weeding people out?

For the guy (student) who interviewed me, assuming it's not you SisterDisco, I was only his second acceptance of the season out of all 12(?) prior interview dates. Note that I interviewed in February. Maybe they are being much more selective this year, which could result in a greater than average wait list movement.

Ha, no, not me 🙂

Sounds like a logical prediction for more than average waitlist movement- full support 👍

would be nice

not that it matters right now anyway, but you interviewers know how many were accepted of your personal interviews. but does anyone know the total accepted so far, interviews left, etc? or is that info never really disclosed until the end?

Are the interviews with the medical student and MMI open or closed file?

Thanks!

MMI is closed file (as are all MMI's I believe), medical student will have only the qualitative parts of your application (primary and secondary). Good luck

Dunno, but there are open spots as long as there are interview days. You're never interviewing for a waitlist spot.

As a student interviewer I can say that most of us do not interview on every date during the application season. It is likely that the number is much lower than 12.

I was on hold pre-interview and rec'd my rejection by email today. Interestingly worded and they kept saying my application was unsuccessful.. well maybe to them !! lol

Anyways they also said if I want to reapply that I need a 3.5+ sgpa, 9-10 on all sections on my mcat, desire to be a PCP, and willingness to serve the underserved.. funny thing, i have all of those in my app!! oh well i get it though. lots of qualified people for very few spots. I think I will end up being happy somewhere else anyways 🙂

gluck to all

Does anyone know how many acceptances are usually given out per decision release, like an average maybe?

Yeah, I second this, it's completely variable by the student. Some student interviewers have only done it once. I'm on the other extreme, where I think I've done every time but 2 or 3

Haha hey I'm awesome, tell them you like me a lot lol

But do we know how many spots are available or are we reaching close to max??

unless things have changed since my day, students aren't given that information.

I figured, it kind of sucks though if you have 40 people interviewing for one or two spots. Hopefully, it goes well.

There's a release date coming up this wednesday…excited/nervous/worried/scared lol

Any calls? It's almost 7 and nothing. Looks like a rejection. :'( I wanted it so bad

The pattern I saw was around this time, the night before the release date. It's killing me, I'm like staring at my phone

Just because you don't get a call the week you should doesn't mean you won't get in. If you hear nothing tomorrow you weren't reviewed yet. That happened to me last year. (So if you don't get a call tonight, hope you don't get an email tomorrow. And if you do get an email tomorrow, hope it's not a rejection)

We don't know how many spots are left, but it's later in the season, so you know that there aren't as many as earlier in the season. But keep in mind that schools over-accept by a good amount in order to fill their classes, since so many people hold multiple acceptances.

Enjoyed giving a tour today. ESPECIALLY when I was asked by one applicant if I was SisterDisco. Ha! I hope everyone who interviewed enjoyed the day.

6 weeks left of second year! I seriously can't believe it... I feel like it was only yesterday that I was interviewing at schools. Once classes are over I will be studying intensely for 6 weeks for Step 1 and then will have a 2 week break before third year starts. Can't wait!

Had my interview today and it was amazing. I hope I hear some good news back.
