Regular. All this feedback is making me really question whether this interview invitation is legitimate haha. Here is the e-mail I received:
On behalf of the Committee on Admissions, we are pleased to invite you to interview at the New York University School of Medicine. We are currently scheduling interviews Monday through Thursday in the morning and afternoon and Friday mornings.

Morning interviews - you must arrive by 7:45am
Afternoon interviews – you must arrive by 10:30 am
The address for the Admissions Office: NYU School of Medicine 550 First Avenue MSB G-106 (Ground Floor) New York, NY 10016
When arriving on campus for your interview, please use the main entrance of the hospital at 550 First Avenue. Bear right at the front desk and go through the glass doors. The sign above the doors will read 550 NYU School of Medicine. Walk all the way down the corridor to the end. On the left you will see Elevator Bank B. Take these elevators one flight down to level G, and the Admissions Office will be on your left just next to the Library.
You will be interviewed by a faculty member and two current medical students. You will have a one-hour tour at 11:00 am that includes Bellevue, our newly designed Simulation Center and the Vilcek residence. At noon you will be given a presentation by one of our Deans and have lunch with our medical students. After lunch you will be given a forty-five minute tour that includes the medical school, Tisch Hospital and the Greenberg Hall residence.

It seems like they have probably only sent out a few so far since most interview dates where still open.

Keep the hope alive! I'm sure they'll be sending out many more in the future!

I applied MD only and received my interview invitation today. 36/3.9 and got the complete e-mail 8/15. And yes I meant NYU, not NYMC.

Damn haha I`m getting totally grilled on this forum. No, I meant 8/15. I was technically complete on 7/31, but did not receive the complete email until 8/15. That`s my story and I`m sticking to it! 🙂

I've done about 25 secondaries so far and 2500 characters wasn't the longest by far. All of mine for NYU were at least 2000 and closer to 2500. If you've written any other secondary essays, try to see if you can borrow ideas/paragraphs for some of these essays. If I remember right the essays were just future plans, diversity, and I chose a challenging situation. All of these I had basically written for other schools, so I was able to modify ideas and sentences to address NYU specifically. Hope this helps

A student who just got accepted here last cycle said this a week or so ago

For what it's worth, I had 2500 characters for the first essay and 1500 characters for the other two (I was accepted last cycle). I would probably write more than 800 characters but don't feel obliged to write the full 2500 characters for each essay. Content is obviously the most important thing.

I recommend staying with a student host. It's free and right next to the school. Nothing in Manhattan is cheap and you don't really want to be commuting from the outer boroughs/suburbs with a suitcase the morning of your interview, especially if you're not from the area.

La Guardia is not nearby. It's quite a schlep. A favorite topic for all NYC school threads is how to get there from JFK & LGA. I think people usually decide this: is a decent option. Let me know if anyone needs further/different instructions. Our closest subway stop is pretty far (especially with suitcases/high heels thrown into the mix).

My year (2010-2011 app cycle) this was definitely true.
For the 2011-2012 cycle, they got new deans of admissions etc and this turned out not to be the case. I'm guessing it'll continue this way for 2012-2013. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like you guys are getting IIs earlier than last year. Last year's 1st interview date was Oct 1st ish. So it looks like they're tinkering with the system. No use in speculating anything anyway.

Same exact situation. Will be in NY the week before, but they don't open interviews until the 18th, so I will be flying back across the country...

I called the admissions office and they said to just wait to schedule your interview until the dates you want open up. They said they will open up more dates as others fill up.

When you schedule your interview you'll have to upload a photo, but not until then.

If it's a decent amount I would say save the money. At this stage, both interview dates are still considered early relative to ones down the line where there might be a greater chance of being placed on the waitlist versus being offered an outright acceptance.

Invite! Will be there the 18th. Just taking the train in from central NJ where I live and go to school. Got SUNY the day after as well as college classes after NYU interview. Gonna be a hell of a week but I hope I can do it!!!
