When was everyone with IIs complete? Also if you wouldn't mind posting stats, that would be awesome, thanks!

My stats are on my mdapps <------ to the left and I was complete 7/10. Good luck everyone!!!

On 'Page 2' of the application, there are 2 questions under the prerequisite course section about academic fluctuation and time off from studies. There is no character limit written under either.

Would it be safe to say that they will fit whatever I have to type onto these questions? I don't want to have to type out a 2-3 paragraph explanation, without knowing a character limit, only to find out after I submit that some of my answer was cut off. Can anybody clarify on this?

With the system NYU uses for secondaries, I believe if you go over the limit, the application will not allow submission. This is the same system Yale and a few other schools used this cycle, and everytime I went over the limit, I received an error message and was easily able to go back and fix it before submission.

For the time off question, I recycled an essay that was about 2800 characters with spaces, and I had no troubles with submission.

For those that sent an in-the-area letter, did you upload it to the additional information section of the supplemental app? Or did you e-mail it? Concerned that it will go unnoticed if I just upload it.

I sent an email to the admissions office. Got a response after a few days saying they would add my in the area letter to my file. No II yet though

thanks for the responses!! really appreciate the help.

Does anyone know what grading system NYU has (P/F or A/B/C)? Also, is the curriculum mainly lectures or group based learning? Finally, are out of state student given any opportunities for financial aid scholarships?

We are P/F for the preclinical years (first 1.5 years)
Clerkships are fully graded (honors/high pass/pass/fail)
THe curriculum is...normal...nothing crazy like Cornell or NW where it's all about the PBL/small groups. We have ~2-3 lectures/day followed by either a lab or small group seminar.
I'm pretty sure what state you're from has no influence on your financial aid/scholarship offers. We're not a state school...

Could someone share the US News interviewed/accepted/matriculated data?

Also, does anyone who has talked to the admissions office know if they will open up November interview dates anytime soon?

One more question: Do they have student hosts?

Thanks! 🙂

So I already have to make 2 trips to NYC from the west coast for interviews at Cornell and Columbia. I already sent NYU an "in the area" email for the first trip but that isn't going to work now. Do you think there's any harm in sending them another ITA email for my second trip?

Anyone have any recommendations for hotels or which airport to fly into for interviews?

I noticed that this year's "accomplishment" essay no longer states explicitly that the accomplishment must be non-academic. My greatest accomplishment far and away is something I've done in a class but is not actually academic itself. Without revealing too much, the class had a competitive component that took up most of the class time. Does this seem acceptable, or is it outside the spirit of the essay?

Save money and headache and stay with a student host! I did this when I interviewed at NYU last year and it was a really good decision. Most of the student hosts live in student housing that is a ~5 minute walk to the medical school. Furthermore, last year my interview started right around the time class did, so my host was able to walk me to the interview room! Also, there was actually a really cheap parking garage ($25/day) about a 5 minute walk from my student host, so driving was (surprisingly) practical.

I never received a complete e-mail. Perhaps I should send them an e-mail. Hate to be a nuisance!!

Any shot here? 3.67/29S but senior honors thesis. non-trad applicant (one year out).. waiting on primary verification

Senior honors thesis in itself won't give you a leg up, but if it shows dedication and commitment through a prolonged research project that'll certainly look good. If you want to go there and you can afford the secondary fee, absolutely go for it. The worst thing they can say is no.

Just got a complete email even though the portal system showed me as being complete as of August 9th. Did anyone else get a complete email recently?

I have a AM session interview. Do you guys think I can make a 6 pm flight out of LaGuardia? The e-mail says that my interview should be done by 2 pm, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Welllllll I have a 4:30PM flight out of LGA, so I think/hope/pray that we can both make ours! What day are you interviewing?

this is one of my first choice schools! complete since August 12... any point in sending a loi? is there a reasonable wait time or is it never cool to send a letter before an interview invite?

The 2PM thing is very accurate. There's a tour from 1-2 for both morning and afternoon interviewers, so you will be done with your day by 2PM at the latest if you have an AM interview. Not sure how long it takes to get to JFK/La Guardia though. According to Google it should take about an 60-90 minutes to get to either airport.
HTH

Has anyone had an interview here yet? Mine is coming up and would like to hear what others thought!

Same here. The confirmation e-mail says one faculty and two current students will interview you, but a current NYU med student told me it was recently changed to MMI format? Can anyone provide any insight? And GooseWing, when is your interview? Mine is Monday! 😀

It's funny you've heard that because I've heard the same thing! Anyone with answers?

Edit: Oops! I forgot to mention my interview is this Friday!

Nothing on their website suggests MMIs, and they even have a nice informative video about interview day. Also, my MSAR says they have rolling admission, but according to their application calendar on their website, everyone gets their admission decision in January.

Here's what I see:

"Acceptance letters will be sent out on a rolling basis, beginning in January. Wait list and rejection letters will be sent by March 1st."

So you're right and you're right 🙂 Where do you see the video about interview day?

Interview Invite! Complete 8/9 The link to schedule an interview was disabled in the email but the one in my complete email worked and I was able to schedule an interview. So excited!!!

Wow def by far my worst out of five interviews...school and hospital are absolutely AMAZING but my interviewer I felt got a horrible vibe from me. I did the best I could but I still felt he didn't like me at all.....kept saying I'll have a lot of options and kinda half heartedly threw in that he'd love if I went to NYU. Just a horrible feeling from the interview. Ugh. Too bad NYU was my first choice too. Oh well. Good luck to those of you still in the running!

congrats on all the interview invites!

Anyone know if NYU assesses apps in order? I've been complete since mid July with no news 🙁

Hey don't consider yourself finished here just yet! I'm not sure how important the interview at NYU really is. Last year, I had an excellent interview after which my interviewer told me she hoped I'd get in...I ended up waitlisted. And I think in previous years' threads there were people who had similar experiences or who had really bad interviews but still got in. NYU does seem like a really amazing place, so if you are still interested, keep sending letters of interest and/or updates and you could have a good chance!

Interviews are a crap shoot it seems. I have a lot of friends who got acceptances from interviews they thought went terribly.. and also lots of friends who got waitlisted/rejected at interviews they thought were great.

BTW, im interviewing at NYU tomorrow. So excited for this opportunity, I am really looking forward to interview day!

Correct -- the students do the MMI portion which consists of 2 mini interviews. From what I heard from interviewees, they thought it was a good (or at least not bad?) experience.

I think the important thing to remember is that the interview does not entirely negate the rest of your application. So if you are a very strong applicant but had a few slip ups on your interview, you are not completely done for! There are so many factors that go into an admissions decision, so it would be very naive to believe that the interview is the sole determinant of your acceptance. Also, @Mosa, your interviewer may have intentionally tried to make you feel uncomfortable to see how you would react; from your description, it seems that you didnt just throw in the towel because you had a tough interviewer.

So I guess the interviews are not MMI in the standard sense that usually entails a series of ethical type situations. I think having current students interview us will be great, so Im pretty excited for it! GOOD LUCK to those of you interviewing tomorrow and Friday, I am beyond excited to be there on Monday! 😀

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I def kept my cool and answered as reasonably and a measured as I could. I will send updates as I have several significant ones and a thank you note of course.

FYI - I interviewed today. NYU has indeed changed to MMI, but you still have a traditional faculty interview. The two "student interviews" in the email refer to the MMI, but honestly they went sooo much better than the faculty one. NYU says they don't do stress interviews, but it sure felt like one. My interviewer kept playing devil's advocate, stared me down, and said things like - "you know you won't make much money as that type of physician". I echo what someone else said about it being my worst interview so far. But, maybe that is just how my guy interviews?

Also, I stayed with a host - definitely do it. You save money and you get the see a dorm room, which they didn't show us on the tour. It reminded me of an undergrad dorm.

Stress interview right? Idk thinking now it feels like it was a stress interview. But then that day it just felt like a crappy interview lol totally ruined my entire day and the day following. Kinda sucked.

I was just going to sign up for an interview slot today (and was waiting to confirm that date with my parents tonight), but all the available dates just disappeared even though they were there 2 hours ago! I was invited to interview about 1-2 weeks ago, and was just waiting for a date that worked for me. I have called the admissions office before and they told me that newer dates would open up "eventually" but they did not tell me that all the available dates would disappear for me after a certain time.

Did I miss my chance?! Freaking out a little bit...

Don't freak out - I'm sure like most schools they open dates gradually, so eventually there will be more posted. If you were invited for an interview you will get a slot - it's still early. I think this is the first week they interviewed anyway.

Wooster I appreciate your response and really hope you are right. To me, it seemed like they blocked me from seeing the available dates - of which there were 10-15 - because they ALL disappeared within a couple hours... it seems highly unlikely that they would all be filled in such a short amount of time.

Anyway, I will contact the office tomorrow and will report back in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation.

Just finished!

I'll reiterate what the others have said. My faculty interviewer definitely introduced some stress into the interview. No question that this interview was tougher than my previous interviews. Beyond that, I think my student interviews went really well but being that this is the first year where students interview at all, who knows whether they will have any say.

Mind if I ask how the stress was introduced? Tough questions? Awkward silence? Devil's advocate?

The interviewer knew my app incredibly well. He picked up on a weakness of mine and pressed me on it. Frankly, I was caught off guard. This was only one part of what I consider an otherwise good interview.

The interview ended with him telling my why NYU is such a great medical school. I'm trying to be optimistic and view that as him trying to sell the school to me. Who knows!
