How reliable is public transportation in NY? Just wondering how to get back to the airport, I have a tight flight/interview schedule. Should I just take a cab?

Definitely. Public transit to the airport can take forever.

I would advocate for public transit - I took public transit just before rush hour and it worked out wonderfully! My departure was at 7:30 and I made it to LGA with plenty of time (I left around 4:30 and arrived at ~6). Good luck!

the person said they have a tight schedule, and obviously doesn't have a spare hour and a half to get to the airport. cab is the way to go.

Arrrg... cab it shall be... better pay for a cab than a missed flight/connecting flight. Thanks !

Anyone have any idea as to how NYUSOM invites for interview....if people way past our complete date have been getting interviews, is that a silent rejection?

+1

Getting the feeling that I've been silently rejected.

Anyone know how receptive NYU is to LOI? Pre-decision, post interview anyway?

I really enjoyed my interview experience there, and would like to show my interest, but I definitely don't want to come off as pushy. I imagine they are bogged down with interviews and such right now, so is there a better time to send one? Like closer to decision time?
i would like to know also. any current students have any experience? i absolutely LOVED NYU, it was definitely one of those schools that you just walk into and know you belong there

For those that have attended interviews here, was there a student hosting program?

Yes. Once you get invited to or if you've already been invited to an interview, under the interview tab on the secondary website will be a bunch of info. The one or two sentences about student hosting is kinda buried there. Email the address indicated. I got a host pretty quickly.

Is it too late to apply to this school ( Amcas primary)?

Well the deadline to submit your primary is tomorrow, 10/15, so for all technical purposes, by the time AMCAS sends your primary to NYU, it MAY indeed be too late.

I'm verified already,
My primary would be in tonight

Does anyone know how receptive NYU is to "in the area" email? I am interviewing at another NY school in December, and I am flying all the way from California.

I submitted my NYU secondary on 8/6, but retook MCAT in mid-august. Received my second MCAT score mid-Sept, so I would assume my application wasn't complete until sometime after mid-Sept. If anything, they will probably get to my application in the next few weeks (anyone completed mid-sept/late-sept got interview invites yet?)

But what do you guys think? Should I let them know I will be there in December? Or should I just wait and see how things go the next few weeks?

I don't know about in the area emails but I also retook my mcat mid August and completed my application late September. Just got an interview invite today for late oct/early November so hopefully they would have a chance to get back to you by your December interview.

Congrats! Mind sharing ur stats? Just curious if they gave interview to people who have super stats first.

Thank you! 35N 3.85 from California.

Damn! Our stats aren't that different. 34Q and 3.76/3.82 from CA as well. Hopefully i'l be getting an II soon too if they've already reviewed up to mid-Sept/Late-Sept

Any feedback and advice will be greatly appreciated!

I'm also from California and sent them an in the area email. Basically, they said thanks for letting us know but we can't expedite your application, if we get to you then we will consider your travel situation. So I think that's basically a "sorry, don't really care".

Your timing is a bit different than mine though; I submitted around the same time as you (no MCAT retake though) and told them I'd be around in early November. I would think it wouldn't hurt to send them an email, the worse they can do is say the same thing they did to me. I don't think your stats matter too much if they don't bother looking at your app early. If it helps at all, I'm 38R/3.9 but maybe they don't care much for my ECs haha.

Not too different at all. Good luck! I hope you hear from them soon!

damn I've been complete since 7/14. Haha does this mean there's no hope?

Very similar situation here... Complete 7/24 and seeing all these II's for later complete dates is pretty discouraging. 👎

Also, 34Q and 3.8+ from CA :/

Just received an email from admissions....

Telling me about a phishing scam. :-/

UGH haha...I hate when this sort of thing happens!

I remember a month or two ago Columbia sent out invitations to apply to its Bassett program. But all I saw in the subject line was "columbia" and "invitation," so for a few glorious moments I thought I'd received an interview invitation from Columbia!

In other news, have any NYU re-applicants had success here? I applied to NYU last year, and was interviewed and waitlisted, but I had to withdraw from the waitlist in late May because I had to commit to my job for the next year. This cycle, I applied to NYU in mid July and haven't heard a thing since, which is too bad because I really liked NYU when I interviewed there last year!

Important Message from NYU School of Medicine Admissions Office

Beware of phishing emails...

No thanks jeff.

I got the same email today. And I got that Columbia one a few weeks ago when it came out as well....so annoying. Really starting to experience some anti-New York sentiment.

I was the one who forwarded the scam email to them. I think me and at least one other SDNer got it. It was from someone claiming to be the Dean's son, who said that he could get us into the school if we sent him a check for $2000.

I guess this person somehow hacked their system and got my name and another applicant's name from a list of people who had recently emailed admissions???
Weird.

So far no love from anywhere in New York.

+1, applied to almost all ny schools and nothing🙁 is this typical to not hear anything for this long? i've been complete since mid july for most of the schools

anyone's heart skip a beat when they received the phishing email? cause mine did lol

Was at work, might have audibly gasped when I saw it, then might have audibly cursed after reading it....

Anyone think it's worth sending an e-mail asking about the status of my application? Haven't heard anything since I was complete 7/30, so I figure it's a silent rejection...

Anyone get II invites lately, if so when and when were you complete? thanks

Wow, I haven't been on here in a while...
NYU likes update letters, although they won't readily admit it. The admissions committee really likes to see that you followed through with whatever activity you stated on your primary, or are continuing the project and are getting something out it. I would give it some time until you have something substantial to write about but plan to send one if you're really interested and don't hear back! That's what I did.

and would you send this letter pre-interview or post-interview or what?

thanks!

I just realized time for NYU is running out since their interview season ends at the end of December and am seriously considering writing a pre-interview LOI as a last shot this weekend. I live literally next to the medical center..and it is amazing.

Been complete since the beginning of August.

Just sent an 'in the area' email! Really crossing my fingers for an interview.
