I had a friends who was accepted today. I'm not sure if they are IS or OOS though just due to when they moved here.

So...according to Kathy (who is very nice), they have given out ~120. I'm a little bummed. That number seems too high to get any early hold list movement 🙁

This just made me give up all hope 🙁

Also 120/? What is the total number again I'm sure it's in my interview information somewhere but I'm at work and am curious haha!

I think they said accept around 224-250 to get the 144. Who knows.. Maybe 75% of the acceptances are OOS who will go elsewhere. Unless OHSU is now trying to not go so deep into the WL like they have the last 2 years.

I think it is 141 for this year which includes the md/phd students

~20 spots for a whole month worth of interviewees seems very slim.

That seems about right, actually. If they begin interviewing in late August / early September, that is ~20 acceptances / month.

If they only give one or two acceptances per interview day (seems about average), and there are usually eight interview days per month, then 20 spots seems more than average.

Good luck to those that are waiting. If you do get a wait list spot, I hope that the number is low!

But that means the "on hold"s only have a shot at the waitlist 🙁

IF every person with an acceptance matriculated to OHSU which is highly unlikely. As awesome as the tram may be...

Except 100% of those accepted are NOT going to choose OHSU. Believe it or not, some people choose this school as a safety, and they have (in their opinions) better places to go. When the do go off somewhere else, that will open up the spots for the fine people on the wait list that really want to come here.

Keep heart and trust that things will work out. You already beat out over 4500 applicants just by getting an interview.. Now you just prove you are in the top 30-50% of those that are left. 🙂

I have the feeling I am going to get sick of the tram when I ride it twice a day... And sick of the hour commute on the bus each way 🙁

The bright side is that the annual bus pass is CHEAP! I will be saving over $1000 per year in gas alone from what I am commuting right now.

I work at OHSU and the tram does get old, especially during commute hours when they fill it to the max. During the summers it can get pretty uncomfortable being packed like sardines but least it is only 5 minutes from bottom to top. The hour commute also gets old, I take both the max and the bus but depending on where you live OHSU has some express buses that make it a little easier and everyone that commutes to OHSU is really friendly and happy in the mornings 🙂

I will be taking bus 43 all the way to O.C. Then transfer to go up to the top of the hill. I did a "practice run" on the bus/tram when I came to the first of the second look days back in March.

When the new light rail to Milwaukie opens up, I may just drive to the end of the line and ride Max to the new facility. It is nice that the new line runs right by the new building. But that won't be for another year for the building and two years for the Max.

I think we are missing the most interesting pieces of info: How many total were interviewed (I'm assuming ~500) and how many have been rejected? That would give us a better picture of what we all are up against.

(FWIW, I interviewed on 2/1, and I was put on hold on 4/2)

(FWIW, I interviewed on 2/1, and I was put on hold on 4/2)

Wow, sounds like they are really moving! That would be pretty great if I heard back in a week (interviewed 3/22) but I kinda doubt that.

Also, I wonder if they have any more of those elusive scholarships still sitting around unclaimed.

So they gave out ~120 acceptances out of 240ish? Is that right? If so, that doesn't seem too bad!

No, it is 120 out of 140. The 240 number is just an average of what has happened in the past. There is no guarantee that it will happen again this year.

Those that are on the wait list are sure hoping that the 240 happens, but we can only wait and see how it all plays out after May 15th.

Sorry to those of you waiting. It is not great news, but it is what it is.

I meant the 240 as eventual acceptances, including those off wait list. My point being that its going to be more than 140 unless everyone who gets offered an acceptance matriculates, which won't be the case. Happy thoughts people!

Wow much has happened since I last posted. Hang in there everyone. There's still quite a way to go. And you have much support from everyone in this forum!

:shakes head: It's so funny how some people actually think this is a safety school. To each their own, I guess; but when I got my acceptance packet today and looked at the financial figures, OHSU was tied with my second choice for most expensive estimate of total cost ($78k a year, about $25k of which I hope to counter by living at the co-op rather than a private residence/roommate throughout my time at OHSU). It was always my top choice. I'll throw down as much as I need to maintain happiness throughout med school while getting a top notch education in one of the most beautiful states and cities in the nation. I never thought I stood a chance, let alone after they rejected me from the MPH interview. Even when I interviewed MD-only I was skeptical that I'd land on the far end of the waitlist.

I'm not sure any of that lends optimism to those of you waiting, but I really hope it does.
:luck: x 10^6 everyone!
Bt dubz, I can't wait to meet you dsoz!

I really hope you mean that in a good way 🙂. Our meeting will take place the next time you come out. Are you coming for a second look? Good luck with getting a co-op spot. If I was young and single, it would probably be perfect.

I understand the wait list feeling. I was also prepared to be put on the wait list, or out right rejected. One of my mentors tried to apply to OHSU about 20 years ago, and he was told that he was "too old" at 40. Since I am older, I felt like my chances were slim to none. I guess that they have reversed their views on the non-traditional applicant. Ha ha.

If that's some people's idea of safety, I can only wonder at what they think is danger! :meanie:

. . .
Hah! Of course I mean that in a good way. 🙂 No, unfortunately I can't make it out again until it's time to move on account of the finances. But, I know I'm matriculating so it's not that big of a deal. Thanks for the luck on the co-op. Considering how few spots they have and the fact that you must be unanimously voted in, it seems more competitive to land a room than to land a seat in the school of medicine. LoL

LoL, for real!

Hey all,

I have been following this thread since December and its help keep me in the loop in this process so I just wanted to pay it forward to those using this as a method of tracking the application process.

I interviewed 3/8, accepted 4/8 for MD, "On Hold" for MPH.

Last year I interviewed 1/7 and I was waitlisted at position 86. The waitlist ended last year at 67, the year before it ended somewhere in the high 90s. If you get waitlisted there is hope especially if you are 50 or below. Good luck to you all and I plan on see some of you in the fall.

It appears the new non-traditional is now a tradition at OHSU.... The fb page is full of non-traditional student.:prof: I'm 24 and one of the younger ones.

No Co-op for me though, I'm married and have a house in Beaverton. Look out debt here I come! But we don't want to think about that for a while  --> (4 years later first interest only payment due) :uhno: :smack:

OHSU has the 4th highest average age in the country

And it is people like me that make it that way. 🙂 If you young people object, I will beat you with my cane.

I went into this thinking that I may be the oldest in the class, but I may get beat by at least one other. I will need to figure out another way to stand out.

Pretty soon I will need false teeth, a walker, and bifocals (these will probably come first).

ha ha.

His memory is fading in his old age...

But the eyesight is still good... It is the hearing that is going, going, gone...

DSOZ!!! (does that make you happy )

I do that so I can search the thread for things that I said before. I can just search my name...

Oh man, the old man really doesn't know how to use the internet 😛

When you search, you can go advanced search and type in both keywords and member name so only post you have posted show up.... unless you're looking to see if someone quoted you I guess.

Does anyone know do they not necessarily go in order when addressing final decions on applicants? I mean to say it seems some 3/8 interviewers have received a decision before people I know who interviewed in February?

Well, you do have some help from people like me, too. 🙂

I think they go roughly in order, but if your individual interviewer is not present for the meeting, then they defer your decision until the next meeting. Sometimes they go out of order because of this.

They will get to your file eventually.

OHSU has the 4th highest average age in the country
Who are 1-3 in that category?

I probably need to go talk to them, since I'll probably qualify for the AARP before OHSU will let me in.

I am not sure, that was just the data I saw before. Average age is 26 the year it was the highest was like 44 youngest I think 20

I noticed that tidbit at the interview day, many of te first years seemed to be mid 20s early 30s. Also, any news this far today?
