Woo, II today. Wednesdays are, indeed, the trend, it seems.

Q: If anyone included updates when they accepted their invite, what kind of stuff did y'all include? No new grades have been released, but volunteer work, etc.?

Stoked!

Also, how long do interviews usually take?

does anyone have extensive research experiences they are willing to share?

I have done a decent amount and I was wondering what people thought about OHSU and how they value it as opposed to their clinical focus.

Also - mine was done at OHSU, if that helps I guess.

@Logicofman When were you complete? (I know it varies so much at OHSU).

Just figuring they're probably a week-ish behind from thanksgiving. My buddy took about 6 weeks for an II, and this week (with thanksgiving) is 6 for me... So I was assuming I might hear something next week.

Expect to be at the school all day long. The actual interview is about 2 hours of MMI. There is a morning group and an afternoon group for interviews.

Hey I had looked at your mdapps and just wanted to share that at the school I met a guy who was in his second year and had spent 13 years as a high school science teacher. Thought that might be encouraging for you

I know that guy! We used to volunteer at the same place.

Accepted!!! interview 10-26

Congrats guys!

After I saw your updates I went to check my portal...

Hold 🙁🙁🙁

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you are up high on the waitlist. I was hoping that you would be joining us in the party tonight!

My head just wants explode right now cause not knowing anything from now till May puts you in such an awkward planning situation if you're fortunate enough to be accepted elsewhere. Because you would plan on going to the other school, but come May could have a tough decision to make.
:boom:

Stats only count for about 20% of the score. 40% is MMI, and 40% is the individual traditional interviewer.

It took exactly 2 months...but application finally complete on the portal! OOS (3.8, 32Q) but husband's family is all in the greater Portland area (too bad I couldn't claim any of that for heritage...). We would so love to get back to the greenery of the PNW after being in Colorado for 6 years. Droughts and fires are not exactly my cup of tea having grown up in Bellingham, WA. Here's hoping for an II!

Congrats dsoz! I am glad you got your first choice and early to boot!

Congrats to all those accepted! Do you plan on accepting? Feel free to PM me with any questions about what being a first year is like here!

Hold 🙁🙁🙁

Don't be bummed about a hold. The majority of people are put on hold and they got very deep into the hold pool last year. I was on hold and bummed but I got in! Just stay positive, it's far from over.

Interviewed this week. This next 6-8 weeks is going to be a looonnnnggg waiting time before I hear my status

Hi guys,
I got II from OHSU Wednesday, and had put next Friday as my first choice and 1/4 as my second choice. I got an email back today saying I've been scheduled from the 1/4 interview, but when I went to check airfare today round trip ticket from Hong Kong to PDX is running $2000~:scared:!! But after 1/10, airfare goes down dramatically (aka, is actually affordable). Does anyone know if OHSU allow reschedules? Has any one tried? How did it go? 😕

I'm really really nervous that they won't allow reschedules and is really conflicted as to whether its worth it to pay $2000~ for airfare when I don't even know for sure that I'd get in. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Definitely try to reschedule! Call, rather than email, though. The admissions staff are extremely accommodating and very kind.

Congratulations on the ii!

Anyone interviewing Friday? I'll be one of the current students having lunch with you and answering questions. Can't wait to meet you all!

Anyone have any clue how often the committee meets to go over the interviewees?

Decisions seem to be about four weeks after the interview right now, but I would expect that to go up with the holidays and such.

It looks like interview invites go out on Tuesdays and decisions post-interview go out on Thursdays.

Interview invite! Can't wait to come see Portland!

hey congrats!

can you share if you are IS or a mission group?
Guessing oos as it sounds like they haven't seen Portland, although not everyone has been to Portland from the state. At my interview last week all of the applicants for the MD program were from oregon. I'd be interested on how far out they are scheduling now

Accepted today!!! Very excited, love OHSU. Interviewed early november

Congrats to all the new acceptances! There's so much activity on this thread right now. I really hope I get a chance to interview, my stats are looking very sad next to everyone else's here :scared:

My stats are lower than anyone's mdapps I have seen on here so far and I interviewed here

hey congrats!

Not in state. I think I fit the mission group for the academics (3.75, 35) but I didn't apply for MPH or come from a disadvantaged background.

congratulations! Are you planning on attending or not?

dsoz

I'm not totally positive yet-- there are a few other schools that I'm waiting to hear back from but OHSU is near/at the top for sure! One question that popped into my head today and I can't remember from the interview day: are lectures video recorded? Part of me remembers them being only audio recorded but I'm not really sure. Anyway, OHSU is totally awesome and I couldn't be happier today. Good luck to the rest of y'all interviewing/waiting!

I think it is just audio. But classes are only 4 hours on the of the days a week. One day has PCM in the afternoon, and one day has preceptorship (work with doc in a primary care clinic). I am still wondering if the other three days a week are totally free, or if there is something else that is scheduled. It seems too good to be true to go only two full days and three half days to class each week.

More time for independent study?

I think you are right with the schedule and it is only audio right now. The new building is being built on the waterfront which might bring video as well but that would be till 2014

Yep, audio only. The audio files are posted online although (unless something has changed in the past year) they are streaming only and cannot be downloaded.

Some faculty members do not like the idea of having their lectures video recorded. However, OHSU is going through a substantial curriculum reform process at the moment and video recordings are definitely being discussed.

On rare occasions, there will be other labs or clinical exams that need to be scheduled for one of those free afternoons, but unless you choose to do research or take an afternoon elective, you pretty much have 3 free afternoons per week.

I believe they are actually just starting to install cameras in our lecture hall for video.

Do you know if you can speed up the audio recordings when streaming?

Congrats dsoz, I've seen you around the forums on and off for the past few years and such. You definitely deserve the acceptance 🙂 Glad you won't have to relocate elsewhere, and drag your family along.

I'm on hold myself and interviewed in October. I literally wish upon an eyelash, 11:11, and what-have-you ever time for an OHSU admission. What I would give to go to this school...

Congratulations to everyone accepted so far. Hopefully I will be up there with you too sometime 😉

I really wish we had lectures video recorded here, but it may be changing soon. However, that isn't a guarantee.

As for the schedule, the only required attendance is for lab, PCM small groups, and preceptor. So if you aren't one to go to class, then there is a lottttt of free time.

Can I bother you again and ask when you were marked complete?

Just trying to see where/if my app fits in at OHSU 🙂
