Good god, man! With your stats? I'm doomed.
I feel like ohsu is a lot more focused on extra curriculars and healthcare experience than the stats portion than a lot of schools though. Although I thought the same thing after looking at his stats

It's not about the stats. In fact, I'd swear that OHSU can get downright cagey about applicants with super-stellar stats.

I sure hope so. I love this darn school and feel like we'd be such a great fit, like a match made in heaven. *dreamy eyes*

🙁

Eh, I don't really know OHSU's process, but I don't think #'s would put me in the front of the line. You're IS, I'm stats mission group, so I'd think we were both compete around the same time we'd both get II's around the same time. 🙂

Tbh I really wanted to see Portland and OHSU, but now that I know I'll have the option of UW to say close to home (with IS tuition!) if I don't hear anything by Christmas I'll probably withdraw and save OHSU time, save me status checking stress, and hopefully give any potential II to someone else deserving. 🙂

That is a very noble attitude to take. Very few people feel like that. Too many, it seems, need to rack up as many acceptances as they can. It is like they feel it is a competition.

Once I was accepted to schools in my top 5, I canceled everything lower. I even withdrew from the hold list of a really nice school once I got my acceptance here. I thought that if I wasn't serious about attending, I should save the interview spot for someone that was serious. Also, my pragmatic side didn't want to waste the money going to more interviews.

Good luck wherever you decide on attending. Be the best physician you can be!

PS if you don't get an II, send me a PM this summer and I will show you around Portland and OHSU once I matriculate there.

This. Take note of the onslaught of withdrawals on my MDApps. It's about where I want to attend and feel the best fit, NOT accumulating senseless acceptances and contributing to others' suffering while they await word, or worse, get rejected. :highfive:

Unfortunately, I'm also OOS. 🙁 But I do wish you the best of luck!

🙁 sorry, thought you were an Oregonian!

Hi everyone! I'm a current first year and ran into a group of interviewees the other day. The nervous faces i saw motivated me to check the boards. Just wanted to wish you all good luck and to have confidence.
I can answer some questions if you post them on the thread. I may be slow to respond, but I will do my best.

Not sure if this was already answered regarding audio- currently lectures are audio recorded and uploaded on the course management website. You can download them. I believe they are working on video but I am unsure as to where they are in the process.

Again good luck in your interviews.

I was not pointing fingers at you. 🙂

have they started sending out rejections yet? I noticed this week is full of rejections, at least in my inbox.. guess schools have got to get some dirt of their shoulders before christmas/new years...

Congrats!!! Interview date?

I interviewed on 11/28- I hope to hear something soon!

I interviewed 11.16.12. From the turn around it looks like people are hearing back just a few days one month after the interview. Not sure how christmas will influence the process...

I was hoping to hear before thanksgiving, but instead heard after. Other people in my interview group hear the week before thanksgiving. The committee will probably take a break for the vacation would be my guess. That would push back all decisions to closer to the six week mark. 🙁

anyone else get this status on their portal and have any insight on it?

Your file has been screened and is currently on hold for an interview, pending further review. Due to the competitiveness and size of the applicant pool, some applicants are placed on hold until the entire pool has been assessed. As soon as a final decision has been made we will notify you immediately. This decision may not be rendered until March.

I mean it's obviously pretty clear what it means but just curious if anyone else has had this and received an interview or if it means im basically not going to hear anything until the non-mission group people are reviewed too in like january. just curious!

I can't provide a lot of insight, but I think this may be help to know... When I interviewed we were told the past few years they have been able only select applicants who fall into their mission groups.

well i'm in one of the mission groups but not IS. didn't really expect too much but now this status is going to like torture me hahaha

It sounds to me like you have received the cold shoulder from OHSU. You may want to call them and ask why. If you meet one of the mission groups then you should not have received this message.

OHSU is very biased for in state applicants. About 70% of the class is from IS.

What state are you from? That may factor into the decision. Especially if it is Washington.

Sorry to hear. But looking at your MDApps, it looks like you have a couple of acceptances already. That should soften the blow some.

My observation from past years is that the committee seems to take a break for Christmas, which makes sense because your 'traditional' interviewer needs to be present at the AdCom meeting to advocate for you. So, expect no post-interview decision notifications.

However, the office staff seem to be working in the week between Christmas and New Years, because historically people have gotten interview invites and other post-secondary status updates during this time.

yeah ive been pretty fortunate to have some luck this cycle but i'm definitely still interested in oregon so a little bit of a bummer. i'm an indiana resident by the way so yeah.. probably doesn't help my case haha

OHSU called my bluff with an II yesterday. I'm tempted to go as it's driving distance from me, but my earlier logic still stands so I will be withdrawing and giving the spot to another applicant. Good luck guys!

II Yesterday, was a good belated Christmas present. Dates were for mid January-Feb 1st.

I'm IS and was complete 10/4 and I think I had that same statement on my portal. I was just offered an interview a few days ago so don't count yourself out.

Has anyone been rejected post or pre interview yet I don't feel like I have seen any rejections yet

Thanks! Hopefully ill end up like you and get an interview soon too!

Anyone know when ohsu stops interviewing? March? April?

Anyone else take a while to get the interview date confirmation email? I have until the 4th to email back with my preferred dates. I got back to them on the 27th and am starting to get anxious... I may call them tomorrow.

Don't be anxious, it's totally normal. It took them a few weeks to send the confirmation email.

With that being said... I got mine back same day.

But take into consideration that it is winter break and some people are probably out of the office.

Also, they have a mountain of applications to get through. They may be focusing on that aspect for a while then get back to you once people return from vacation.

If it were me, I would keep calling until I spoke to a real person and ask about the status of my interview invite BEFORE the deadline. But I was just very neurotic. :scared:

I emailed them on the 25th and heard back the next day. If you haven't already, I definitely would call if I were you.

My app was completed on 10/1 and status continues to say ......

I am IS and wondering what to make of it. Anything I can do to better my chances for app to be looked at? Advice is much appreciated. Just making me so nervous.

Sent in a combined update and LOI via mail today. This is my second update. I really hope it conveys just how much I want to attend this darn school. :luck:

I don't think there is anything you can do now that you submitted. I thought updates were only looked at once they offered you an interview and that those had to be in prior to the interview...?

Well, I'm still pre-interview at this point. ::sigh:: And no status update whatsoever, not even a hold, whether that's good or bad I don't know.

I checked the portal this morning and found I was placed on hold. Pretty bummed. I loved this school and hope that I end up with a good spot on the alternate list. I interviewed the last week in november.

Hold by status as well. Interviewed late November.

Sorry to hear that for all of you. Just remember that OHSU puts almost everyone on hold and has HUGE wait list movement in May and June.
