Does anybody know if some people will get off the post-interview hold list before May 15th? Or should I not expect to hear anything until then?

Last year people did, at my interview they said it could happen, but the portal says no movement till May, so not really sure.

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile.

ATPase8 was put on hold end of February, accepted early March.

IF they decide that their acceptance grade from the interview is set too high, they will lower their threshold and accept anyone that scored higher than their new standard.

It looks like new acceptances would be notified by email.

There is hope for you still.

If I was placed on hold, should I fill out a FAFSA? Or do I need to wait until I am actually accepted to fill that out?

I remember the financial aid guy saying to fill it out and put all the schools you applied to (minus the rejections) so that in case you get accepted somewhere they will already have that info, otherwise you have to redo it, which to me made it seem like you should fill it out before

Fill it out so you're not caught with your pants around your ankles.

Late to the SDN game, but wanted to see if there are any future classmates out there. Accepted 12/24 (interview last week of November). Anyone out there for sure going?

Me.

Interviewed end of October, accepted end of November.

I withdrew from two other acceptances, two wait lists, and before going to a whole bunch of interviews. For me there is no other option left. It is OHSU or bust.

It is good to meet you. 🙂

Congratulations all! Coming from a current MS4, OHSU is a great medical school. If there are any questions, feel free to PM me.

dsoz and I had identical interview dates/acceptances and I decided this week to stay local at OHSU. Withdrawing from a bunch of acceptances and interviews this morning. Point of no return for me.

Thanks for this info! I think I will still try to put it out of my mind until May though so I can retain my sanity. lol!

I feel you, I just wish my lease didn't need to be renewed before that date, going to put me in a hard spot

Fyi, video recorded lectures are up and running at ohsu, at least for the ms2s.

Video recording is happening for MS1's as well!

Nice! That was my one reservation about withdrawing my acceptance at the other schools. They had video recording. I think it will be good to re-watch some of the lectures, or be able to watch them if I get sick and have to miss. I am glad that OHSU is stepping into the modern technological era.

For anyone who has received their acceptance packet I had a quick question. There was a piece of paper in there that described a listserv for incoming medical students. I was wondering if we had to register for the listserv or if we are automatically put on it using the email provided in our application? Thanks!

I am late to the SDN game as well. Interviewed 11/9. Accepted 12/5. This was my top choice! 😀

99.9% sure that I'm attending unless something crazy happens between now and August.

Glad to meet you as well!

That is so weird. You have your acceptance packet already? I should have gotten mine right after Christmas (four weeks) but still have not received it. 🙁

I emailed the admissions office over the weekend and they said they were mailing them out this week. I guess I will just wait for it.

I am curious does anybody know the schedule for upcoming interview dates, what days of the week the interviews usually fall on?

I was wondering if anyone who had insight regarding OHSU's newly implemented video lectures could possibly answer a couple of questions for me. I received an acceptance from OHSU two weeks ago and this is one aspect that is weighing heavily as a factor in selecting which school I will be attending.

Are the video lectures only streamed live or are they available to watch whenever you want?

Are they a standard video camera recording, or is it a power point slide show format with the lecture audio playing along with the slides? Or do they perhaps offer both of these options?

Is it possible to pause/rewind/fast forward and also watch the videos at a faster speed (1.5x, 2x...)

Thank you in advance for any answers that you can provide 🙂

The videos are recorded so you can watch them whenever you want. However, they have random days/hours missing and that was the case when it was just audio recording.

They aren't standard videos but rather just the Powerpoint is being shown while the professor talks and changes when he/she changes the slides.

I am not sure about watching in multiple speeds as I haven't tried to speed it up.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions.

Is there any chance you also heard how many acceptances have been sent out so far?

Unfortunately, in the current format videos can not be sped up/slowed down.

Also, as far as I am aware we do not know how many acceptances/interviews/etc. have been given out.

Good luck to everyone!

pm me with burning q's

woo hoo! interview invite! NY resident too! not gonna lie, i'm a bit shocked...and thrilled. love this school!

If you do not mind sharing stats and your interview date that would be great!

So updates are seriously only accepted via snail mail?

I've been complete since 9/18, sent in 2 updates, and haven't heard or seen any action whatsoever.

Wow, that really sucks. Are you in one of the mission-based groups?

Yup, but an OOS mission group. I think that's the death knell in my chances.

What are these mission groups. I feel like I'm out of the loop at this place.

Go back and read this thread from the beginning... It is talked a lot on the first few pages...

Oregon resident, ties to Oregon, urm, or high stats (3.6 and 32 I think...)

Edit: here it is

MISSION-BASED GROUPS

The committee adheres to a policy of equal opportunity and non-discrimination on the basis of sex, age, race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, military service, sexual orientation, or any other status protected by law. The School of Medicine gives preference to the following applicants:

Residents of Oregon.

Non-resident applicants with Oregon Heritage. The School of Medicine uses the Oregon Heritage Policy for student selection, but it is not used as a basis for determining residency, and therefore the tuition a student pays. Oregon Heritage is defined as 1) A student with one or both parents residing in Oregon at the time of application, 2) A student who graduated from high school in Oregon with at least two years at a high school in Oregon, or 3) A student who graduated from an institution of higher education in Oregon with at least two years at an institution in Oregon.

WICHE-Certified residents of Montana and Wyoming.

Applicants applying to the M.D./Ph.D. and M.D./M.P.H. Combined Degree Programs.

Non-resident applicants with superior achievements in academics and other related experiences. For the 2013 cycle, superior academics is defined as a cumulative Total GPA, as reported by AMCAS, of 3.65 or higher and a cumulative score of 32 or higher on the most-recent eligible MCAT.

The School of Medicine Admissions Committee fully recognizes the importance of diversity in its student body and in the physician workforce in providing for effective delivery of health care. Accordingly, the OHSU School of Medicine strongly encourages applications from persons from all socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, religious, and educational backgrounds and from persons from groups underrepresented in medicine.

For the past several years, they have not had to even interview someone that does not fit one of these mission based groups.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, but recently audio has been incorporated into the lecture PPTs for the second year class. The audio speed can be increased as well.

I assume this will take place for the first year class as well in the near future.

I just wanted to tell everyone to keep your heads up! I was complete on 9/21 and finally offered an interview on 1/7, way past the 12 week mark. OHSU likes to take their time with everything (especially for us OOS people). Don't give up hope yet!

Mind posting some stats, and you are an Idaho applicant right?

For the past several years, they have not had to even interview someone that does not fit one of these mission based groups.

So I'm not technically in a mission group; however, my mother-in-law lives in Salem (and my spouse would like to be near her). Also, the only thing keeping me out of the OOS mission group is a disastrous freshman year from the first time I went to college ... almost 10 years ago. Both my sGPA and cGPA are 3.8+ without that first year, but when you factor that back in via AMCAS they fall to 3.5-3.7 and 3.3-3.5, respectively.

Any thoughts on whether I should make the case to OHSU in a LOI or update letter (I could throw in my Fall grades and the fact that my MOL lives in the area, which I didn't indicate on my application)?

You can stream them (non-flash friendly) or download them as mp4 files. I use VLC and watch everything at 1.5X minimum, frequently 2X speed is doable.

Rather than write a letter, you should call the admissions people. the phone number is listed in this thread somewhere. Ask them about the Mom-in-law and whether it counts as a "parent"

good luck.

Thanks dsoz 🙂

I should have mentioned that I did call about the MOL thing, and was told that it doesn't count. Guess I was just hopeful that they might sift through the non-mission groups for candidates that are near-misses 😳

Yes, keep your chins up - schools are still sending out invites! I was complete on 10/29 and just got an II.

IS or OOS and stats if you do not mind? Also do you know what your status was before the invite?
