I'm not expecting anything more to come out til Wednesday. The committee meets on Tu/Th and the notifications/updates seem to get processed the next day.Could there be two days of good news in a row, stay tuned to find out...
Just got a email from Admissions.
The Second Look Days will be:
Friday, April 5
Friday, April 19
Friday, May 17
Friday, May 31
Dear Lord,
Please let OHSU accept me before May 31st so I can attend a second look day and get my thoughts straight... but don't accept me on May 17th as then I would have to make a decision on May 31st (given OHSU gives 2 weeks to respond to an offer) and I would like more than a few hours after second look to think it over.
Thanks,
DAPI

Would it come off as presumptuous to try and finagle a second look invitation if we do not have a decision? If I get accepted it will probably come in the space between the April & May second looks and I'll have to accept or decline without going to one. I asked U of Washington about their second look and got an invite, but I'm 3 spots away from getting taken in off the waitlist right now so that seemed like a reasonable thing to do.
Yeah, I agree. I'd just flat out ask. I went back to GWU before I was even waitlisted and asked if I could shadow a student when they were my top choice. I think it shows passion if anything. Go for it!On May 15th, if I have a good waitlist spot, I would probably give them a call and see if I could come to the May 31st one - like you did with UW. Trying to get one before hearing the initial decision may come off strange, but I doubt the people making that call have any say on your admissions status, so it probably would not hurt to ask.
If you haven't gotten any news or are on post-interview hold, then yes that could come off as presumptuous. If waitlisted, I think it's fine since a waitlist basically means they are accepting you if there's enough room.Would it come off as presumptuous to try and finagle a second look invitation if we do not have a decision?
I disagree. I think interactions with office staff can have the same impact as a personal statement. If they're positive, it's unlikely to actually get you in, but if they're negative they can definitely keep you out.I doubt the people making that call have any say on your admissions status, so it probably would not hurt to ask.
That's a very good point. They even warn you about that at some schools.I disagree. I think interactions with office staff can have the same impact as a personal statement. If they're positive, it's unlikely to actually get you in, but if they're negative they can definitely keep you out.

Oh, and bt dubz? I celebrated hard last night, came into work 6 hours late! LoL I've never done that in my life.

Thanks! Hah, well, I did need to get a few things done. Plus I get paid for the entire day if I show up for any amount of time. I love being salaried. LoLNice, I probably would have not come it at that point
Also, congrats! I'm not sure I've said that to you yet 😳

Dear Oversoul / Lord / Zeus / Cthulu / Whom-It-May-Concern,
Please give me a seat, I'll be a good boy!

Well, don't feel too jelly: Our vice chancellor just announced that we won't be accruing vacation time from 4/1 to 6/31!!! I was counting on that severance pay out for living expenses during my first month of med school while I wait for our funds to release! Bah! They just jipped me out of 30 hours worth of pay! I'm so livid right now! They're blaming it on the sequesteration, too. Ug!😱 That's not how my salaried job works! If I miss for some reason, I'm expected to take it out of my vacation time or sick time, depending on why I'm gone... I probably would classify a hangover as sick time though, so no biggy 😀
Congrats! I'm sure you'll be getting good news come May 15th. 👍HoldWell at least I'm still in the running.

That sucks, I feel for ya...Thanks, OHSU was my top choice. And I didn't get your PM 🙁
Hi all,
I have obsessively lurked on this thread for the past 6 months. Just got placed on hold.
This is the application season that never ends.
So sorry to all those that were recently denied admission. I'm no stranger to rejection, I know how much it sucks.
I honestly don't know yet. Those of you who know me personally know that I have some fairly weighty reasons to not move away from Oregon. Yet, I feel more certain than ever that OHSU does have a blacklist and I am on it. So, there you have it.Seriously, those bastards! Is that it for you? 🙁 I'm so sorry.
There's always WesternU...if you graduate from there, they call you "doctor." That's the goal, right? 🙂 I'm not sure of your "reasons" to stay in Oregon, but I definitely have mine. After 2 rejections from OHSU, I cast the net a little wider...I live a bit south though, so I don't know how that would work for you geographically. I truly wish you the best.I honestly don't know yet. Those of you who know me personally know that I have some fairly weighty reasons to not move away from Oregon. In late May, call the admissions office and request an exit/feedback interview. If you're local you might be able to have it in person, otherwise it will be telephone based.Did you guys say they do exit interviews to evaluate why they rejected you? Do you know how that process work for OOS applicants?

I understand completely. Thanks Dianyla. I still need a moment to get over this.

Its okay Dianyla. It was nice meeting all of you during the Interview Day. I really enjoyed Portland and I will definitely try again at OHSU next cycle.
To those of you who are interested.

I know what you mean, but I don't think you have to worry. My particular problem with OHSU is completely self-limiting and not contagious. 🙄Argh. Nor really sure why, but I always thought that if you got in, it would mean I had a shot. It feels so personal (your getting rejected), even to me. Very sorry to hear.
😕 🙁
My own train of baggage aside, it's really just a numbers problem. Almost everyone I met on the interview trail was a total rockstar. 500 rockstars for 136 seats means that not everyone wins at the game of musical chairs.I just don't understand how they can accept one person, and reject others that are just as good. 👎 👎
dsoz
I don't think I was a rockstar, though. I think I just showed an undying passion for OHSU combined with acceptable stats and a very unique narrative. I think you were right about the blacklisting problem, as if those that decide to interview you are independent from the lady that despises you and has final say in the admissions process. =/ ::sigh:: I'm still in shock and can't believe that something like that still goes on behind closed doors at an institution like OHSU. I'm totally down for going back to Deschutes when I get to town and buying you a sampler to blow off steam. My own train of baggage aside, it's really just a numbers problem.
