What do you do with all your time then? And then second year, you don't ever have to go to lectures, there are no labs, and tutor group is 2 hours twice a week.

They shouldn't be until January. When I see you downstairs later, I'll make fun of you for this again. 😉Study. I study maybe twice as much as first year. Boards are always in the back of the mind of a second year. We also have much more patient care centered activities.
Well I sent my deposit in Wednesday, so once the check clears I will have my seat reserved (I'm assuming they won't come across anything on my background check.....hopefully)!
I noticed there is a pre-orientation usually in June, can anyone shed light on what this is all about?
The pre-orientation is to give you an idea of what you're in store for. This includes things like housing, the white coat ceremony, and required paperwork (There's a lot of it). It also gives you a chance to scope out potential roomates etc...

I was looking at the website and it says tuition is about $28,000 for second year. What exactly are students paying for if there are only 4 hours of tutor groups, no labs, and hardly any lectures? And then second year, you don't ever have to go to lectures, there are no labs, and tutor group is 2 hours twice a week.

ToucheThe letters M and D.
Access to faculty, the clinical activities and labs, your malpractice, etc. etc. Med school isn't cheap, but you won't find a cheaper one in the state.I was looking at the website and it says tuition is about $28,000 for second year. Got my acceptance letter on Friday afternoon! See you there in the Fall!
Has anyone got a facebook group started yet?
Hey everyone, anyone ever known of someone to get pulled off the screener's alternate list for an interview? I'm a non-traditional SMP student and I just updated with my fall grades but wondering if anyone has ever actually had success after being put on that list.
Are AWPA given out by email or regular mail?
Yep! That's correct.According to my interview notes. AWPA comes by snail mail.

Sorry, never heard of this happening.
They will send more info about housing in a couple months. With it being a college town still a lot of the cycles of housing are on a university schedule and many places have no idea when they will have what open. Murphysburo is very near and you can rent houses there, which I know some people have done in the past.I have just started looking for a place to rent from in Carbondale and have been having a difficult time. I have a family with a medium sized dog. I'm trying to find a nice townhome or apt that allows dogs, somewhat close to campus. Anyone have any advice?
This thread is for the medical school.Hey guys I want to apply to SIU for next fall.. I Have my application filled out and ready to turn in .. and i am taking the DAT soon.. My grades are solid (3.8). I know this is late, i just decided that i wanted to apply to dental school. Do you think i would still stand a chance if i got my application turned in now and took the DAT in a few weeks? or is it too late?
Thanks!

I'm as shocked as you are. But now that I'm here I guess I should finish.Wait....I'm in med school?
Holy crap! Someone should have told me!
You're welcome. You guys have been very helpful, thanks.
I know someone that was accepted yesterdayDoes anyone know for sure when the next batch should be released? I thought I read something about it being at the end of January, but now I can't remember for sure.

Alright, so Beth told me they sent a batch of acceptances out this past Friday (as others on the board mentioned.) She also said to keep your email address current due to between batch acceptances and that the next big batch will go out in early March.
I heard Memorial is building a new simulation/teaching center that should be complete around 2014. Anyone know how much access SIU students will have to that?
I spoke with Dr. Constance in my interview and he expressed to me that the new lab will be focused on medical team skills. He made it sound like the med students would utilize it. I don't see why they wouldn't if they already use the current sim lab equipment.
We already use the old one, I'd imagine we'd use the new one too.
While I do see the pros of PBL, the idea of self studying the majority of the major material scares me a little bit. I've read some posts by SIU grads on other websites saying that there is very little guidance on what to focus on. It seems like it could get extremely overwhelming and that the learning could be a little ADD and unorganized. Anyone want to debunk this myth or give a better explanation for me?
Just wondering for current students and cost of housing and what not... is there any wiggle room in the budget at SIU? Do you have any extra loan money?
