Anyone received a confirmation email from Texas Tech? Mine was transmitted around early June but haven't received any confirmation email from the Admission. Should I call the admission?

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssss 😀

It's about damn time.

First interview invite to Texas Tech- El Paso today.

Will be interviewing Oct. 25.

In-state; cGPA: 3.61; sGPA: 3.53; MCAT: 30M; TMDSAS transmitted 6/20; MCAT received by TMDSAS 8/29.

First interview invite EVER is such a great feeling. I got the email on my phone in the middle of a meeting and I stood up, threw my phone on the table, did a quick tiger woods fist pump, then embarrassingly and politely stepped out. I am not kidding.

Best of luck to everyone else in this hectic, stressful cycle. Don't give up hope guys, these invites will come!

Love it!!!! Congrats!

Love it!!!! Congrats!

Thank you so much!!!

Hey, is anyone thinking about staying with a student host? I've heard from many people it is an awesome experience but I thought it might be a good idea to get a comfortable hotel room and a bed to myself to be well rested before such an important interview. Any thoughts/ opinions?

Congrats sir!

I'm interviewing in El Paso this week and am staying with a student host. Will be happy to pass along my thoughts on the experience.

Congrats Boricua, you definitely deserve it. 🙂

Awwww shucks, thank you. I mean it, I appreciate the kind words.

Thanks bud! I appreciate it and yeah I'd love to hear how it goes! PM me or post here, either way will work, thanks again for offering to share your thoughts.

On another note, I think I am going to email Foster and request to stay with a student host. Sounds like too good of an experience to pass up!

Rescheduled my interview for 11/29... Figured that was the most strategic (and considerate) option.

Congrats - great school! You are really going to enjoy interview day. 🙂

I didn't stay with a host (first interview and worried about getting a good night's sleep!). As the date neared, I wished I had something to distract me instead of sitting in my hotel room alone. Luckily, they recently started having a "meet and greet" the night before. So even if you end up not staying with a host, you can still go out and meet other applicants and students. They were awesome - made an effort to make sure everyone was included at dinner.

Hey craftyconqueror, thanks!

The "meet & greet" the night before sounds like a lot of fun. How were you informed of it? Did you receive an email about it or something cause I haven't heard about anything like that for my interview date, maybe its too early though I don't know...

I'd love to go though, seems like a good way to break the ice. Hopefully if I stay with a student host they'd be willing to go to it as well.

What number are you guys using to call the admissions office? If its (915.783.1250) what extension should I dial? Haven't received confirmation email either, transmitted 8/24.

Anyone?

I tried calling three or four times and the operator did not pick up. I emailed and got a response very quickly (within hours).

Hey thats cool man, congrats to you too. I've visited the school a few times (Im an el paso resident) and its pretty nice, though I've only actually been into the main building where the admissions office is. So Im still excited to get a thorough tour of the school.

What part of Texas are you from?

Hopefully you like El Paso, its actually a cool place to live once you settle in.

Thank you!! I am from galveston and I am going to drive. I know it is a looooooooong drive, but its america....lets burn some fuel!

Hey a good drive across Texas is always pretty fun to me. I drive multiple times a year down to Austin which is only 9 hours but I dont think adding an extra 3 hours would be much worse.

Im actually going to Galveston for an interview in november and have an interview in houston next month. But both times Im just going to fly, I want to make sure Im well rested and get there early enough to just relax and practice my interview the day before.

Current MSI here. Would gladly answer any questions you all have.

Several student hosts showed up with their interviewees. 👍

A little dramatic, are we? 😉

I got an email 3 days before my interview, detailing the day and notifying me of the meet and greet location. (I don't think it's always at the same place as this is something new they have added. They are trying out locations, I believe.)

Good luck to all!

Quick question for those that have already interviewed here: My flight is scheduled to leave El Paso after the interview at 4:30. Meaning I would need to be to the airport around 3:30.

I know the interview day technically ends at 3:15 but when does it actually end? What is the last item on the agenda for the day? How is the school sponsored shuttle leaving for the airport? Should I reschedule for a later flight out?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help!

As soon as you get there at 8am, there will be a sign up sheet for those who need a ride to the airport. It asks what time your flight is. They will take those people who have an early flight right at 3pm and come back for the rest. Hope this helps.

You may miss part of the student panel in which the interviewees ask questions of the current students about how they like Paul L. Foster. But you will definitely make your plane flight in time. Overall the student panel is what you make of it, and if you want you can go to the break room and ask students there about the school during the breaks in your interviewing schedule.

Short answer, you will make your plane flight.

This is for IS applicants that already had IIs here at PLFSOM.

I interviewed here back in August, and its been a couple weeks now, and I still don't see this school in my TMDSAS rank list. Other schools showed up fairly quickly after interviewing.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing with PLFSOM.
I really like this school, so it worries me that it hasn't shown up on my rank list. 😕

I saw it up there after a week, but dude, the match is after jan 21. I would contact them only if it hadn't show up by jan 10th.

thanks, and yeah that was what I was thinking - contact in jan if nothing changes.

Strange and unsettling - but I'll just stay patient. 😳

Hey guys,

Good to see that student doctor is still going strong. I'm the current Student Government President for the Class of 2015 and it seems to me that there is slight disconnect between the invited interviewees and what all happens for student hosting, the meet and greet, and flights. I'll be working with the current staff/students in charge to make sure there is a more transparent process for ya'll on how everything happens. I know this can be a nerve racking experience. Would anyone be opposed to a facebook group? Seems like that is a good medium than most have access to.

For now though, we are basically given a list of names from the admission staff which tell us who would be interested in staying the night with a med student. Apparently they send an email out to you to respond to. We then make a list of all you guys and have medical students sign up for available interviewees they can host. The students are supposed to contact you and arrange all the details from then on. The night before your interview there is usually a Meet & Greet. They've been meeting at Carlos & Mickeys at 7:30p.m. but starting October 3rd they will be meeting at Kinley's Coffee House (venue change) starting at 7:30p.m.

I hope this helps. When i interviewed here about two years ago, I got a hotel at Best Western which included a ride from the airport to the hotel, free breakfast, and a ride to the school the next morning. (the school provided the shuttle from the school to the airport). It was a special med interviewee deal and i think it got it all around $50, but the price might have changed. I would have liked to stay with a student to save money and ask questions, but the class size at that time was smaller. As of now we have 80 MS1s, 80 MS2s, 60 MS3s, and 35 MS4s. The next class should be around 100.

Keep posted for a possible link to a facebook group site with fantastic information to aid the uninformed.

Are you OOS?
I am IS and interviewed 9/20. Does anyone know when early offers would be sent out for this date? I don't remember the topic coming up during our interview day.

If you are in-state regardless of when you interview the soonest you could pre-match is Nov. 15. That goes for all Texas medical schools. You can then be offered a pre-match offer up until Jan.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

You're right about Nov.15th being the first day you can be offered a pre-match offer. December 31st is the last day they can extend a pre-match offer though (UTSW stops Dec. 15th). You'd then rank the schools by Jan. 21st and match results are posted Feb. 1st at 8 am. For those with multiple pre-match offers, they are resolved through ranking/match.

Nice! Thanks.
All the info is on the TMDSAS website but I was too lazy to look haha 😛

Yeah I'm OOS, sorry, got a little carried away. But everybody is right on those other dates. I'm hoping they'll send out the OOS today but haven't heard anything yet!

Found out yesterday I was accepted! oos 🙂

Flying out to El Paso tomorrow morning for my first medical school interview, ever.

I am soooo pumped and excited...I think sometimes we lose sight of how much we've worked and endured to get to this point...I remember a few years ago in the throes of undergrad telling myself I would never get a medical school interview...and now its finally about to happen...

To all who have interviewed before me, thanks for the advice. To those who are to come, I will do my best to provide appropriate feedback.

See you guys on the other side.

Good luck to you!! I was there about a month ago ..... It is a wonderful place. I'll bet you will enjoy your interview day!! 👍

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I'll be interviewing at El Paso on Nov. 29, so psyched! I hear great things about this school.
You mentioned shuttling from the airport and I'll probably be flying in, do you have any tips on what shuttle services might give good deals to students?

I got a hotel that had a free shuttle.

Sorry for the late post.

Interviewed here recently and 100% totally blown away, this place is amazing.

Curriculum is best in Texas without a doubt, and other schools are starting to follow suit.

Although first 4th year class is just now graduating their step scores were impressive, dont remember the number but it was higher than the US average.

Small class size, students seem happy. Facilities are top notch, brand new and shiny.

Basically, if accepted here and the opportunity presents itself, I would pack my bags in a heartbeat. Best of luck to everyone else who is awaiting to hear back.

BoricuaMD.....I very much agree with everything you said. I interviewed at Paul L. Foster late October and was also truly amazed! Step scores were 235 and loved their integrated program. Interviews were conversational and stress free for me. They were in the recruitment mode and not the "weeding out" mode. We are now getting nearer to November 15th and Good luck to everyone!

I double agree. I came to this interview pretty closed minded, mostly because I just did not see myself living in El Paso. But I LOVED the school. The curriculum is unique and just so different from any other school. The students I stayed with for the night seemed super excited about the school, which also got me super excited about the school too. The atmosphere seemed pretty friendly, and the students didn't seem cut-throat at all. The faculty seemed to be really involved with the students. Both interviews were conversational and neither put me on the spot or anything (though students warned me one of them might be kind of harsh, he wasn't at all). I was not asked about healthcare at all in either of them (I was grilled about health care policy/what's wrong with it/how would I change it, etc in my last interview so I was thankful for that). I ended up not hating El Paso (the city) as much as I thought I would...I would say I almost liked it, but I think I'm too stubborn for that haha. It's cultural, and there seems to be lots of outdoorsy things to do. The mountains are really pretty. Also there is UTEP, so there are many other students there as well so I'm sure there's a bar scene too if you're into that. Most people seemed to be happy living there, but my main issue is that EP is just so far away from anything and at least 12 hours from any person that I care about...If the school was in Houston/San Antonio/Dallas, I'd 100% go there in a heartbeat. So it's just a matter of mulling over now if I'd be okay with living in El Paso.

1st year here.. This place is perfect to study medicine. There's plenty to do but not enough that you'll be distracted when you need to study. Yes it sucks that it's farther away from bigger cities when you do have time off (after end of unit exams) Southwest has great deals on Ding!. So far in school I haven't even had that much time do a whole lot of crazy and fun stuff anyway so being in a bigger city wouldn't be that beneficial.
