i interviewed 11/15 and my status still says campus choices recieved....does this mean that the committee has yet to review my file and make a decision since then?

The admission committee assigns your score after your interview. They are done looking at your file for the moment. As they interview more people they will adjust the admission criteria and accept more people. Right now it appears the admission criteria are still very high so I wouldn't be worried. I interview 10/25 and my status is still campus choices received. According to members of Student Doctor and people that I know who attend UAB a lot of people don't find out if they are accepted until March when they finish interviewing.

My interview is next week. I'm super excited! GPA: 3.70, MCAT: 35, in-state.

got the "remain under consideration for interview" status....crossing my fingers I'll get an II in the spring

Has anyone who interviewed in the last three weeks received any acceptances?

I interviewed on November 15th and got an acceptance email this morning! I was very impressed with the school during my interview and am an OOS applicant. Congrats to all who have been accepted thus far and best of luck to those waiting to hear back!

Hello all,
I interviewed back in October and have received my campus preference email but no acceptance. I was hoping to figure out whether I am in the majority or the minority. So who out there has been interviewed, when, and have you been accepted? If you feel comfortable you can include you stats. Also, if there are any current students who stumble across this, what can you tell us about the proportion of those who don't hear until March?

Interviewed early October (don't remember exact date). Good interview. No acceptance (yet). GPA 3.8, 31R

Same boat as you. Interviewed quite early on, thought it went good -- not great of course. No acceptance yet. Slightly higher GPA and same MCAT, instate. Getting a little nervous, but there's still a lot of time.

Same story here. Interviewed in the first group (september something), 33 MCAT 3.9 GPA, in state but went to college elsewhere.

In state interviewed on 10/4. GPA 3.82 mcat 33. No acceptance.

Congrats on the acceptances everyone!!

Has anyone created a facebook group for the Class of 2017?

Does anyone know if Alabamais receptive to update letters or enails? I have recently obtained a job as a scribe and would like to inform them

Anybody know the answer to this question?

For those of you selected or been to the interview, how many people interview you? Do they have acess to your GPA and MCAT etc? Thanks

Most people have 3 interviewers, some had 4 though. Mix of faculty, community doctors, and maybe some med students (not sure on that one --- I didn't have any interview me).

And they do not have access to your GPA/MCAT. They have the entire application, just with the GPA and MCAT blacked out.

Thanks! Does that not put people interviewed in Feb/March time frame at a disadvantage. Reason being everyone knows that early candidates are better and the later candidates cannot explain why their GPA/MCAT is low. Maybe I am thinking too much. congratulations to everyone accepted. You folks are good.

Hey everyone, Happy New Year! Went online to check my status...it shows the campus assignment now!!! I hope everyone gets the place they wanted!

Hey guys,

I haven't looked thoroughly through this thread so I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I am curious if any reapplicants have received interview invites yet?

I am a current MS-1 here, and if anyone has any questions I will check this thread every once in a while and would be happy to answer anything I can. I'll go ahead and briefly summarize my previous experience: I was a traditional applicant who interviewed in September last cycle w/3.9 gpa, 33 mcat, excellent research, decent extras, and good interviews (I thought), and I was waitlisted first tier (didn't hear anything after September until spring break), accepted mid-May. There were people with similar stats on paper who were accepted well before me, so don't worry too much if you find yourself in a situation similar to mine. There were also people with lower stats accepted before me. You never can tell what they might put the most emphasis on in your application or how the whole dynamics might play out. The process can seem very random and variable at the time. I had heard back from the other schools I interviewed at before December, so I think w/UASOM it sometimes just boils down to a waiting game.

Hey i was wondering if you could give me a breakdown for a typical day for MS1. Also, how do you like the lecturers and how do you feel about the campus and school in general? Im almost positive i wanna go to UASOM but i just want to get a better feel for what MS1 students think of the school after matriculation. And thanks in advance.

Thanks. Your stats are very similar, except my 32 was 11/11/10.. Do you have ties to the state?

Congrats!

Anyone know if there is a UAB Class of 2017 Facebook group yet? Searched but couldn't find one.

Thanks! I dont have any direct ties to the state, but I do live in Georgia so the fact that its a neighboring state probably helped. Also, I have friends that attend school at UAB for optometry and medicine. Just hang in there, I'm sure you'll hear back soon. Best of luck and hopefully ill see you next year!

Has anyone here received an interview after having the"Remain Under Consideration for Interview" status?

Yes. You can receive an II any time after that status. I got mine a few days following that update.

thanks for the response. 🙂

Yes, being from a neighboring state likely helps. 🙂

Do you think that you'll get some merit money to help offset some of the really high OOS costs? UAB's OOS tuition ($59k) is higher than the tuition at the private SOM that accepted me ($47k)

BTW....I've looked thru "help" and settings, and I can't find where you can set up your "signature" on this site. Can someone direct me? lol

Still waiting....

Go to "Customize Profile." Then, on the left side column under "Settings & Options" choose "Edit Signature." Hope this helps!

I don't seem to have a "Customize Profile" link.

I have a "Your Profile" link, but when I go to it, there isn't a "Settings & Options" link. There are:

Edit Options
Edit Details

and neither seems to have a "Edit Signature" link.

So far we have pretty consistently had lecture every day from 8 to 12. Then we may or may not have lecture from 1 to 2 or 3 (right now we are having lecture from 1 to 2 most days). There are also usually several days a week where you may have a lab, small group, simulation, etc. until 5. You have to attend 80% of the lectures or they will deduct from your final grade. I am someone who would normally come to maybe 50% normally, so it is pretty annoying for me but not a huge deal I guess.

The lecturers can be very hit or miss. We've had some very bad ones and some very good ones. Most do a decent job. The lectures are all recorded (audio & video), and I can understand almost everything said in the recording even if I couldn't in class due to a thick accent.

As of right now I'm not really too opinionated on the school in general. There are several things that I have disliked so far (mandatory lecture attendance, terrible orientation IMO, the structure of one of the classes we took last semester), but honestly nothing that matters much. I would undoubtedly dislike several things if I had gone elsewhere, too. UASOM was not my first choice, and I honestly even liked USA a little better. However, IS tuition was a major deciding factor for me when choosing between my other schools, and I felt like UASOM would ultimately get me better prepared and positioned for the future than USA. Overall I'm happy with my choice to attend UASOM, and I would make the same decision again.
