I believe some schools have a few late interview sessions if they end up losing a lot of their admitted students to other schools. I could be wrong, but I've heard of people interviewing rather late in the spring at other schools..

I hear ya though.. I was expecting a rejection, but my status recently changed to this which is somewhat odd at this point.

Anyone else know anything about this?

I have multiple family members at UAB and one of my cousins is assisting with this interview group today. He confirmed it is in fact the last group there will be no more interviews.

does your cousin know when UAB will be sending out the remaining acceptances (not including later WL acceptances)?

He doesn't have that info he just had to help out today. It wouldn't surprise me if they handed out some acceptances tomorrow and I have heard that the waitlist will most likely be completed by the end of March.

Any updates?

If they are going to send out acceptances today they have already been sent this morning or they won't arrive till around 5. I'm hoping they haven't been sent yet because I haven't heard anything

Just read the page at UAB. It says that final decisions could take up until the end of March, but no more interviews, I hope they are sooner than that. Also haven't heard anything. 🙁

I must say I have been fairly disappointed with the way UAB handled their admissions cycle. I interviewed in October and I still haven't heard anything. I interviewed at South Alabama and found out I was accepted less than a week later.

Actually, I believe USA and UAB handle it very similarly, at least from my experience. Both said that if you reach their threshold, you are in (after the initial interviews at least). USA sent our letters out so we got them a week later (acceptance or hold). UAB (for at least our interview group) sent acceptances to people who reach that threshold the day after the interview. So the way I see it, it's essentially the same, the only real difference is that UAB has an implied hold where as USA sends a hold card. Still anxiety inducing for all of those who did not receive an acceptance right away.

Unless UAB sets their initial thresholds very high. I'm still not convinced on what their rubric is. i think that because they want more females and more URM (and maybe more OOS), that their rubric includes some kind of bonus pts for those situations.

Since UAB stopped interviewing yesterday, then today may be too soon to see a number of acceptances.

Where did you get this info? If you look at their facebook page, although it doesn't have everyone accepted on it, it shows a pretty even distribution, so I'm not sure it's part of their rubric, it may just be a random trend.

Male/female, and plenty of non URM

You may not know whether someone is a URM from a Facebook page. Not all URMs "look" like URMs. And my point wasn't limited to male vs female, since UAB is known to accept a high number of OOS students. So, a number of those acceptees may be OOS (or URMs)..

I agree with you; UAB's lack of communication with us has been disappointing.

Congratulations! I wonder if that meant all final decisions went out? I'm not sure why they would wait and accept people gradually since there are no more interviews. Anybody else have thoughts?

Any more updates? The waiting game is the worst.

Final decisions don't go out until the end of March. My guess is they are waiting to see what OOS students are actually going to attend before they fill out the rest of the slots with instate students.

According to last year's thread, the alternate list came out the third Friday of the month (March 16). If they are on the same schedule this year, that would be this Friday, March 15th.

I hope that doesn't mean that those of us who haven't been accepted yet will be WL'd.

Were there a string of acceptances right before the WL went out?

They are behind this year. On their website it says final acceptances won't come out until March 30th. Just go to their page and click on future students and you will see their statement.

It does however say BY March 30th. I do not think that necessarily means it cant happen this week or next. Just thinking optimisticly

I think yesterday was it for straight acceptances. A bunch more people got accepted yesterday than posted. So if we're lucky and it follows last year's pattern rather than taking til march 30th, we wait about a week for the waitlist, and then they update everyone else's statuses a couple days later right?

I hope you're not right...lol. I really want a straight acceptance. 🙂

Ok..I'm an idiot.

I was accepted on Monday. The email got buried. Didn't know until I went on the SOM website and it said "Accepted." Went back to my email, scrolled down, down, down, and there it was.

Happy, happy, happy!!!

Well I wish that would have been the case. Congrats!! Anyone else on here but me still waiting on an answer?

Me unfortunately...I am an IS reapplicant, I was put on the middle tier of the alternate list last year and finally rejected in July after 10 months of waiting. Here we go again.

Still no news yet for me either. Hoping we will get some sort of update soon! I want to think they haven't given out quite 186 acceptances yet, but who knows. They just made it sound like they accepted very few students prior to this month. Maybe theres a few left before the alternate list is released!

I've been waiting too... I interviewed jan 31 and no change in my application status since I submitted my amps preferences that day... The waiting is KILLING me!

You are right, the wait is awful. I also interviewed 10/4 but no news so far.

I agree. To me it sounded like when final decisions were made, that the last round of acceptances would be announced along with the alternate list. Maybe that's just wistful thinking, but my fingers are crossed that that is the case!

Well unfortunately it didn't happen that way last year, everyone on SDN who didn't get accepted in the final group of acceptances on the 7th last year (this happened on the 11th this year I'm guessing), got either informed of their position on the alternate list on the 16th or rejected on the 19th. But I definitely agree that it would be amazing if they gave out one more group of acceptances this year!

Well that does make logical sense with the previous years. It just seems to me like they haven't accepted as many at this point as they had last year, but who knows. Wishful thinking. You can't really judge how many people have been accepted form this forum though. The UASOM class of 2017 Facebook group has 61 members at this point but who knows the actual number of offers at this time.

Any other thoughts,? :luck:

Well, maybe a way to get some kind of pulse on what's going is this: If those of you who are still would waiting post your MCAT breakdown and GPA's. And, mention when your secondary was complete, when interviewed, and how it went. Also include home state.

Then maybe if your stats are very close (or higher) then some of the recent acceptees you might have an indication of whether you might still be accepted or be at the top of the WL.

I was accepted last Monday, so you can use my info as a possibly guideline...

Home State: AL
Univ: Public U
MCAT: 11BS, 11PS, 10V......32 total
sGPA: 4.0
cGPA: 3.9
secondary complete - end of Sept.
interviewed in October - interview went well.
accepted - March 11.

Home state: AL
Univ: Public U
MCAT: Verbal 10 Physical 12 Biological 11 = 33
cGPA: 3.82
sGPA: 3.75
Complete: end of sept.
Interviewed: 10/4 Went Well I think

Weird....makes no sense that you haven't been accepted. Have you checked your online status?

How do you think your LORs were? Your ECs?

RE: your science GPA...what were your pre-req grades?

Yeah I don't know. My LOR's should be great but Made b's in organic. A's on all others. I'm still staying positive. The waits getting to me though.
