The wait has been cruel already lol. My concern was that they may wait since they said final decisions would be made by the 30th, not notifications. I'm hoping that concern isn't valid though!

I feel like every ounce of patience I possess has been exhausted. I just don't understand what's taking so long...

This is excruciating. And they may not even come out today. But I hear law school dosnt even tell you if "your application is not longer being considered".

My heart drops every time I get an email notification on my phone and it's driving me crazy I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE lol

You're probably not going to find out much accept which tier of the alternate list you are on. Maybe a few acceptances, but mainly just alternate list notifications. Hope your wait is short... I was waitlisted all last summer and ended up not getting in. BRUTAL.

That is awful. Did you reapply?

I was reading through the info for current applications again and under the tab about the admissions committe, it said everyone will hold their final status by April 1... Here's the link if interested https://www.uab.edu/medicine/home/education/prospective/app-proc/comm-dec

So I guess we wait another weekend based on how late it is already. :/
But we still have wait list hope I think!

Yea I'm thinking we probably won't hear anything today... 🙁

Been following along for a while. Just going to vent my frustrations and say **** this ****. Had one of the first interviews. How damned long does it take to make a wait list....

Agreed. I don't get it...what advantage could waiting until Monday to tell us anything possibly give them? It's not as if they are making any decisions Monday morning.

I interviewed in October and it has been one hell of a frustrating wait. I had a pretty ****tacular interview so I'm not very hopeful of getting accepted but I still want to know already. I have been accepted at South but I have been holding out for UAB and at this point I'm just sick of waiting.

I agree. It would be inconsiderate if they waited till 4pm today, seeing as they met Thursday and made decisions. However, it would be understandable because they might be trying to force people to take the weekend to cool off. But to have the decisions Friday morning AND wait till Monday...not only inconsiderate but foolish in my opinion.

I don't know if I will take an email seriously on Monday considering it's April Fool's Day....

I called the admissions office... The lady who answered didn't have a timeline on when we would be notified... She said she doesn't know anything other than what is on the website... 🙁
Seriously, this is insane.

What an unprofessional admissions committee. Seriously. I did my part now you do yours. Get your **** together UAB.

Hey not to be too nosey, but worst case scenario, anybody have plans to reapply next year or go somewhere else in the fall?

I have been accepted to South Alabama and will most likely being going there regardless of being accepted to UAB or not. This wait has been unbelievable frustrating and I am beginning to feel somewhat jaded towards the school. Also, I have multiple family members at UAB (one first year and two second years) and having to sit in lectures for 6+ hours a day for some modules sounds not so fun.

I'm wait listed at other places that I feel I have a strong chance of moving off of. Otherwise I'm sending in my application for the UQ-Ochsner program today. I chose not to apply to South thinking I'd rather take a year off than live at home.

??? Has anyone heard anything? The web page says by April 1st. This is really cruel.

I actually just called them a few minutes ago. The lady had no idea when final status's were supposed to be sent out. But she did say that in the seven years that she's worked there, they have never made that deadline...

So i wouldn't expect anything from UAB today....

UAB is losing major points for me.. Really just considering choosing South and not even waiting to hear from them..

I'm with you. If they treat prospective students this poorly, how do they treat actual students?

This is ridiculous. I interviewed with another school and received an answer in less than 2 weeks. I just don't understand what is taking so long.

And wouldn't logic dictate that if you can't make the deadline based on your historical timeline you would alter it? At least if we had all been told mid-April it wouldn't be SUCH a big deal, comparateivelu speaking, of course.

When I applied to UAB I didn't even bother applying to South b/c I viewed UAB as the superior school. However, after a pretty poor interview I quickly turned in my South Alabama application and was accepted shortly thereafter. I am so glad that I did. UAB has handled their admissions process pretty poorly imo and while I still would be thrilled to be accepted with each passing day I am leaning more and more towards South. I just don't feel like the name UAB is going to make that much of a difference unless one is interested in an extremely competitive residency. Also, being able to go to the beach in the very small amount of free time we might have sounds pretty damn nice.

Wish they would at least let us know something, rather than keep us in the dark. I was fine with waiting 6+ months, but they made it clear we would know something by the end of March. They could have at least sent us some kind of email giving us a new timetable or whatnot.

This has been the most frustrating experience of my life. It has certainly left me with a bad taste for UAB and goes along with what I have heard, that South cares more for the student individually. What a bad deal.

Hey guys,

This is how uab is just about every year, although I don't ever remember them not getting the waitlist out by april 1 (ridiculous imo). I had a similar experience to a lot of you going through my application cycle, and struggled deciding between south and uab because I was so furious with uab's admissions process. But imo, like someone mentioned earlier, it really comes down to whether you want that competitive residency (because there is no denying that uab is an excellent academic medical center with a very good national reputation) or an excellent administration that will give you a better medical school experience. This is not saying that you can't get a good residency out of south, but uab will definitely give you an edge imo. And as far as uab's administration goes, I can tell you that everything does get better once you get past the admissions process (I'm at uab). I doubt it gets as good as south, but it does get better. I guess my main point would be that uab's admissions process makes it seems like the whole school is terrible, when really it is just the admissions part that is so bad. But I definitely understand that having to endure this whole ordeal puts a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

This may sound suspicious but this just sounds like a recruitment message trying to ease people's frustrations over the piss poor handling of UAB's admission committee. I completely agree that UAB is much more recognized and would provide an edge in the most competitive residencies but for people interested in the more common fields of medicine I highly doubt it is going to make a difference if someone goes to South or UAB.

Thank the Lord for this thread. I didn't know another soul going through this.
It's good to know that UAB improves after admissions. However, now, I feel rather disregarded by both schools. USA has missed its published deadline on providing any information for its research program (starts in 8 weeks).
I was pretty set on going to USA, and the research was a big draw. Now, I don't know.

🙄 How is one to make plans like this?

Also, LeBraun, what do you mean by "I doubt [the administration] gets as good as south?" I'm unaware of discrepancies in administration. Would you share them?
