I got my email on 10/15 at 5:25pm. I got my email on 11/09 at 5:57... So, yes, emails will probably be sent out soon. 🙁

Just got my hold e-mail...*sigh*. Another round gone, this is the third hold so far

😎

Damn.

Hold as well. Congrats to those with acceptances and good luck to everyone with a hold next round!

UA Phoenix I love you!! Please love me back!! No more hold please!! I would relocate from VA to AZ in a heartbeat!!

Also put on hold. Email listed as 515 my time which is 615 Arizona time. At least they are good about letting us know ASAP. 🙂 the wait was killer. Says next update is January 11.

I wonder if posting on here has a positive affect to admission since Tara is on here. Congrats to you guys btw!

Hi Tara,

Are interview invites still being extended until the end of the month?

Ah, not me. I just mean I've noticed some people have their pictures in their avatar (some have been removed too). And I am not the real JB btw 😉

Tara,

I have a quick question...how many of the 29 offers made were from the hold pool? Thank you so much for all of your help! 🙂

Does anyone know how casual the Meet-n-Greet before the interview is? Do people tend to wear sports coats and jackets, or is a just button-down shirt sufficient?

Thanks!

Button down is fine it really is an event for the applicants. I had a great time and the student ambassadors were so nice and easy to talk to.
I got accepted fri also. Tara was so nice and I think I was in so much shock I wasn't very coherent. I bet she gets that a lot. Well good luck on your interview and enjoy the day. Dr. Flynn's talk was my favorite part, the whole day was great.

ACCEPTED !!

I can't even believe it. I feel so honored. I'm just -- speechless.

ACCEPTED! Just got the call from Tara! (I'm sorry if I was incomprehensible on the other end I couldn't stop laughing) Interviewed 11/19.

Best of luck to everyone else still waiting! Honestly, I could not be happier right now and could definitely see myself matriculating here. Top choice so far by far.

Congratulations you two. I think I interviewed with one of you.

Agree with Kennyj. Dr. Flynn's talk was my favorite part of the day as well. I feel like he not only outlined the program well, but made it feel like UA Phoenix Med is constantly striving to improve, change, and grow to stay on the cutting edge and provide students with the best education possible. Really inspiring talk, seriously. You can tell that everyone cares about the students and that the students are the focus of the school.

As for the mixer, it's really laid back. No one came in a suit or anything like that. I think a button down for guys is fine, and maybe a nice top and jeans for girls, or a cute dress.

See you guys at second look weekend. 👍👍👍

Hi Tara,
One quick question. Are the individuals released from the most recent round of interviews or can they be from past interview sessions as well? Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into answering questions. You must have an amazing amount of patience!!
Thanks again!

Previously considered applicants (deferred) can be released in any future round.

Is this one of those med schools that sends "supplemental" application to everyone or select students.

I got an invite to fill out the supplement application however I did not bother because I had a very low MCAT score (25) and assumed I had no chance. I am gonna be retaking and applying next cycle. I just wanted to know for future reference because I have been told some schools send "supplemental" applications to everyone to make some $$$$.

Would appreciate if I can find out.

We invite anyone with at least a 22 - not for money, but to give consideration to applicants who have more than academics to offer a medical school.

Timing is more important - this late in the season make it tough because very few interview invites remain.

Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words I hope you get in here too. It was nice meeting you on interview day and I know you will do great wherever you end up.

How many interview invites are left compared to the number of applicants remaining eligible for an interview?

Hi Tara,

I belive that I read in an earlier post that deferred applicants are rarely rejected post-interview, and ultimately end up on the waitlist. Is that indeed the case, or did I misunderstand?

Also, when do you anticipate UA Phoenix Med being open to receiving application updates?

Thank you very much!!

We received a swell of applications over the weekend as our final submission date was Sat. It looks as though nearly 1200 applications are eligible for just 30 interview spots. This has been an incredibly competitive applicant pool. More and more it is becoming necessary to cast a large net to increase your access to medical education.

Applicants may be released post-interview at any time - although not commonly practiced, this is a possible outcome of being deferred. Deferred doesn't necessarily guarantee a position on the wait list. Hope that helps.

Updates will be welcomed at the waitlist stage.

I was about to send an update on grades and the fact I was accepted to be a peer-learning assistance for a class (lead discussions, grade tests), butttttt I just realized that phoenix won't accept updates until the waitlist is generated. Rawr.

butttttt then you realized you could post it onto this forum and mixed with your completely not-anonymous mdapps you could still hope to get the update to the school through tara, which is why you added the superfluous details that nobody else on this forum cares about.

this is the only disadvantage to the amount of attention tara gives to this forum. everything people say is so positive and tailored to impress. i can find out what people don't like about schools in other forums, but everyone on here just talks about how awesome it was and how they'd give their unborn child to attend.

bahumbug.

I make base judgments on people and their intentions I don't know too sometimes.

Might want to calm down dude. Besides, I was put on hold for the third time last Friday. If people sucking up or people saying positive things about the school had ANYTHING to do with the process as a whole it would be news to me. But I'm sure you knew that already

My goal is to demystify the admissions process with honesty, accuracy and expediency.

If you are curious about the self-aware areas of improvement or perceived weaknesses of our program, just ask. What's important to you? What do you value most in a learning community? What attributes do you believe will complement your style to support your success?

Happy to answer, as are our students who frequent this blog. Nothing to spin, just honesty to help you determine if UA Phoenix Med is a potentially good fit for you.

This is actually a segway into something I've been curious about. How exactly are key qualities such as self awareness assessed specifically in regard to the MMI? Does each evaluator score each interviewee on a 1-10 range per core attribute (self awareness, ethical decision making...) and is each question tailored to address a specific attribute? I understand that you may not be able to elaborate on details in order to preserve the integrity of the MMI but any specific information would be helpful. -Thanks!

You've got it exactly right. MMIs are purposely varied - 10 people assessing you in 10 different ways. Far superior to one person assessing you 10 times or 10 people asking you same question. MMIs seek to explore your fit based on cases designed to meet our "objective", or mission or institutional goals. Some cases assess multiple attributes at once and some attributes are tested in several cases.

Hope this helps. Oh, and yes a score of 1-10 with narrative is correct.

Wow, way to criticize the only school that openly informs applicants about the current process. I would rather listen to the admissions director than neurotic pre-meds discussing the details of a school that they only visited once.

And yes the school is awesome.
P.S. don't forget you can delete comments you make that reflect poorly on your character.

I'm going to agree with kennyj on appreciating the transparency. I can't tell you, at times, how difficult it can be to get questions answered from admissions staff from other schools. And I completely get it -- having to screen applicants, extend invites, coordinate interviews, make decisions on who to grant acceptances, in addition to a ton of other things admission committees, faculty, and staff have to get done on a daily basis (and doing this for thousands of applicants no less)... seriously, I can't even imagine. Most schools just do not have the resources available to address every single question applicants may have. So knowing that I can come here if I have a question and get it answered in less than 24 hours, as opposed to sitting at home completely clueless or freaking out about X,Y, or Z, is amazing.

One of the great things about the UA Phoenix Med Applicant Visit Day is that your visit is structured around the medical students' schedules. That way, applicants have ample time to spend with the med students to ask questions from people who are going through the program now. I had to have met at least six or seven medical students at the mixer, and another five or six on my Applicant Visit Day. While I don't think anyone on the forum touched on weaknesses implicitly, every single medical student (as well as Dean Flynn and staff) was willing to discuss and address any questions we had, including strengths and weaknesses of the program. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive (students believed faculty and staff were receptive to feedback, they felt they had some wonderful instruction [one specific was about a particular anatomy instructor who has received recognition for her work], they felt their class was a familial atmosphere, they felt as though faculty cared about their success, every medical student I spoke to said they would make the same decision to attend UA Phoenix again), with only a few negative comments that could be applied to medical school in general (a lot of material to cover, some professors are better than others, and some students don't really like research). Hope this helps!

i said "the only disadvantage"! imagine if you could list only one negative characteristic of your gf/bf. of course i agree that having tara on here is awesome. how many other schools post the number of people accepted/rejected after a committee meeting? i interviewed in october so i did get the chance to talk to students. i agree that the school is great besides weak intramural sports and no on-campus hospital.

but i still think people are especially corny on this thread for the off chance that it influences their application decision.

In my experience, most people with identifiable mdapps profiles (myself included) try to conduct themselves pleasantly or professionally in school-specific threads regardless of whether admissions faculty openly post there. I think most applicants assume that people involved with admissions read their school's thread from time to time. And honestly, even if they don't, it's much smarter to be nice if your posts make you identifiable.

I agree that if you're looking for honest feedback about the school you have lot of opportunities to ask a student. I know I've received quite a few PMs asking for my honest thoughts about the school (that I am happy to answer), and there are so many of us at the interview day dying to answer your questions. 🙂

Ah, ok. I didn't realize that you had already interviewed!

In any case, you said that everything everyone had to say was positive, so I just wanted to relay that when we spoke to the med students, they gave a very fair assessment of their school, including positives AND negatives. I thought you were saying that you weren't hearing any of the UA Phoenix critiques (because you feel like what people are saying is tailored to impress Tara), so I thought I'd list the ones that I did hear. 🙂 Just trying to help.

As an aside, the medical students I spoke to didn't feel disadvantaged by not having a hospital on campus, although a few said that had been an initial concern. They said that they applied to medical school thinking they would want to go to class and be able to shadow for a few hours at an on-campus hospital. But many of them said that there simply isn't enough time for that and they don't feel disadvantaged at all (I'm thinking the longitudinal clinical course is really helpful in that regard). Maybe Schizotypy can speak to this?

Completely agree!

+1

The big exception was the incident last month in the pre-osteo forum... And that was mostly a FB incident that came back to SDN.

I have nothing to gain or lose by saying positive things about UA Phoenix. I withdrew my application from the hold pool. I would have loved to attend there, even over my state school. But financially it works out better for me to stay in my house and have my spouse continue to work the same job that can provide health insurance.

UA Phoenix has a lot of good things going for it. I appreciate the transparency that Tara has provided for the whole selection process. One of the best things that she has provided is an easy access to get questions answered. It helps out not only the one person that asked the question, but everyone that reads it and has the same question. I have learned a lot about the admissions process at this school. I am glad that there were other people out there that thought up some of these questions, then I could ask the same questions about other programs I was looking at.

I sincerely hope that UA (Tara) continues to frequent the school specific thread in the future, and that other schools learn from the successes at this school.

Well I was probably a little harsh and I apologize. This emphasizes your point much better, and I hope everyone will make sure they don't jeopardize the transparency Dr. Cunningham has shown this year. Hopefully other schools will realize they don't need to be so secretive about the application process.

Hi Tara,

Does UACOM Phoenix participate in an early decision program for the 2014 class?
