Of course it's logical and all applicants should be aware of the policy, but it seems unfair to reject someone based on such a small and seemingly insignificant mistake. Anyways, let's not derail the Cinci thread 🙂

It also seems unfair that schools say "anything below a C" is unacceptable even though only some undergrads have +/- and therefore students who get 70% and a C are better off than a student who gets a 70% and a C-. Lots of things are unfair, but that's how they are.

I actually calculated my GPA without the +/- and it would be a 3.49 instead of a 3.14.

I know I'm contributing to derailing this thread, but wouldnt you agree that even though it's not fair that if you get a 70% in a +/- system and get a C- while someone who gets a 70% in a non +/- system gets a C, isn't that evened out because while someone in a non +/- system with a 78% gets a C, you would get a C+? They don't even have the opportunity to get a C+.

I agree with you. I don't have a problem with +/- except for the fact that every medical school that has a pre-req grade requirement is "C or better" and not "C- or better." Obviously we shouldn't be getting C's in the first place, but do you see my point? That if you got a 70% and your school doesn't have +/-, you still meet minimum requirements even though my 70% doesn't (because my school had +/-).

Edit: I'm also biased because I've always been on the minus end. I had quite a few A-, a couple of C-, and not a single B+ or C+.

Yeah I see your point that is true. It kinda sucks for the cutoff.

When I go to "Begin New Application" there is a dropdown menu that doesn't give me any options of programs to apply to. Whats up?

Is there a way to check if we are complete?

Edit: Nevermind, found it.

had this same exact issue. Apparently we incorrectly typed in our social/birthdays [so that it did not match up to what you entered in AMCAS] so now you have to call/email them and tell them so they can reset your account. I emailed them today and they told me to check back on the app next wednesday...

I was having the same problem, but it fixed itself..

Best secondary ever. Regardless of what happens next, at least the secondary didn't cause me any pain.

I don't get how people can miss the part about speeding tickets. You have to check the box before you can submit..

Yes, it sounds dumb, but the way it was written threw me. I didn't plead anything, just paid my tickets and moved on. Didn't realize until reading this thread....

I called this morning regarding the speeding tickets. They said just email admissions ([email protected]) about it and they'll fix it on your file for you.

Thanks! I missed their call-back and my message just said to call them. I of course got the message 20 minutes after the end of the workday today.

Is anyone having trouble remembering their speeding tickets? I, honest to god, cannot remember any tickets past the one I got when I was 16. I've had several background checks recently and nothing has shown up--but does the average background check show moving violations?

Do the med schools use some kind of amped-up background check?

UC--Secondary #1.

I am also wondering how to find this info. I know my last one was 5 or 6 years ago, but I've had 20 years to rack them up and know I've had a few more.

I couldn't remember all my tickets either and they're no longer on my DMV record. Admissions said that the background checks will show moving violations and it raises questions when there are discrepancies between what you report and what they find, so just be as honest as you can.

I ended up searching different courts online by my license number and just guessed on the remaining ones that I know I've gotten.

I entered speeding tickets and all other moving violations that I could remember. I didn't include parking tickets, but I did include red light camera tickets (turning right on red @ no-right-on-red intersection).

I'll have to figure out how to do that. Thanks!

Ok this is a stupid question but when it asks to list any "moving traffic violations", I know that includes speeding tickets, but does it also include rear-ending another vehicle? I was late to my physics class last summer and didn't realize the car in front of me was stopping all the way so I ended up hitting them. No police were involved. Thanks!

go away troll

Its a valid question, sometimes people just exchange insurance info and go their merry ways. Especially if they're in a rush.

Pixie, I'd say you're fine. If the record is on your insurance but no citation was issued you're fine. Good luck!

I am sorry, but I disagree on the validity of that question.

Just to add something, i emailed admissions yesterday about a question i had regarding the secondary and the "completeness" of my application and they said they do not review any secondaries until the middle of August.

Just though i'd let you know!
Kelly

Hey i'm not sure if anyone already answered this, but I also received the email for the secondary app. before having my AMCAS verified, and I called the UC COM and they said you can turn it in whenever. In other words, you don't have to wait until AMCAS is verified

I am looking for answer to a question about OOS tuition. University of Cincinnati med school is public and charges OOS student about double of in-state students. I learnt that in Ohio State University OOS student can pay in-state tuition in year 2 to 4. Is there a same policy in University of Cincinnati med school? Thanks.

hey all,

i was wondering how many letters of rec people were submitting to uc? it says you can submit 3 to 8. is 8 overkill?

I sent 6.

I have a question. It asks about moving traffic violations. Years ago (maybe 4-5 years?) I got a speeding ticket but it was cleared from my record because I took a class. Is this something I need to include?

It seems to indicate needing to go to court? I didn't go to court, so I didn't "plead" anything, and I wasn't "convicted" of anything...I took a defensive driving course and the ticket was wiped from existence...

Put the ticket on there and leave it at that.

That's what I thought at first. As it turns out, this is something that DOES need to go on there. I found this out after submitting and had to send an explanation via PDF.

The only thing holding back my application is this moving violation question. How is everyone finding this out? I believe I have 1 or 2 speeding tickets and a few headlight tickets since getting behind the wheel but I can't say for sure nor do I know the date. I thought I read above that people are going to police stations to get this info but that's been entirely unsuccessful for me. Do I really have to make the journey to the not so local DMV and pay $40 for this info?

I just put the year I got mine. If you can't remember the year, then put it chronologically with general regions in time (i.e. in college, I got blank and blank).

If you can't remember whether you got one or two speeding tickets, then peace be upon you, try and stay off the streets.

Hey, good luck everyone with applying to UC this year. I am an M2 and will occasionally check this thread to answer any questions about UC, the new curriculum, Cincinnati, etc. that people may have.

Yes. It is a statewide policy for all state schools. Be aware that you must have some form on employment in Ohio over the summer of your first year to qualify for state residency starting in year 2.

Also, UC allows you to pay instate+$200ish by living in Northern Kentucky for all 4 years as long as you move your residency to Kentucky (no 1 year wait period).

They are looking for patterns of wrecklessness. If you have one or two tickets in the 8 years you've been driving, list them to the best you remember them and don't worry about it. Its not going to affect you. Also, if you pay the fine, then you have pled either guilty or no contest which means that it needs to list it.

Not sure if this information has been mentioned before, but speeding tickets in Ohio are misdemeanor offenses and show up on a background check....this is why the question is on most Ohio school secondaries.

Sounds like an easy secondary. What if you've graduated already and don't have any major activities to really talk about other than activities listed on your AMCAS app ? what else can u discuss and is it bad to talk about activities already listed on your AMCAS app? thanks

All speeding tickets?? That's pretty ridiculous. In most states, it's only a MD if it's like 20+ mph over the limit.

Did anyone submit this secondary but their status still says incomplete? My LORs are already up on AMCAS?
Thanks

Apparently we have to write essays if we get an interview invite, not really feeling this school so I might withdraw if I get an II. Honestly just put this school down cuz of the low fee and easy secondary

Cheap and easy was why I applied in the first place. To each his own!

Nothing yet. I think someone mentioned they don't even start reviewing apps until mid-august?

Check out this guy's memory 👍
