Congrats Tyrion! I'll probably be taking your advice and taking another hiatus from SDN (at least these threads) until the end of March. Best of luck to everybody!

I was a wreck at the end of March last year. Our daughter was due in a few months, I was switching jobs, and I was starting my next med school application in anticipation of being rejected at the single school I had applied to. I'll never forget the morning one of my dialysis patients said to me, "You don't look healthy." She was 82 and had stomach cancer. Made us both laugh out loud for a while.
I'm usually relaxed and keep perspective when others don't, but this application process put me on tilt for a short while in late March when I was waiting to hear something. Watching everyone else on this forum talk about their acceptances definitely started to damage my calm. I guess that's the price you pay for really wanting something that you don't know if you'll get. I'm crossing my fingers for a bunch of you guys! :xf:

just got a call from a 720 area code. my heart was racing! but turned out to be a wrong number. adsklfasdfka I'm about to have a heart attack. :scared:

Ack!! CU is a 303 area code 🙂 but I feel your pain, I have a mini-heart attack every time my phone buzzes at all...

If accepted, you will receive an email, not a phone call. The phone call comes later.

Accepted. Interviewed 12/7/2011--> rejected late March-->interviewed 12/7/2012--> accepted today.
IS, GPA<3.2, MCAT 38, >5 years patient care experience, non-trad(in case that wasn't obvious)

I feel very honored, for a number of reasons, to have the chance to study at this school. For those waiting to hear something, please take my advice: get off of SDN before you go insane. After almost two years of this, please believe I feel your pain. Best thing you can do for yourself is go out and share some of your good right now with the world. You'll hear something one way or another. Then, it will either hurt less or feel even better, so it's win/win. I hope I don't seem self-righteous there, but it seemed like a good place for me to put my two cents.

Good luck, all! And thanks to all you supportive posters out there. I've appreciated your encouragement at times.

:woot:

Congrats Tyrion!!!! You definitely earned this! 👍

Thanks, lalalaaaaaa. You'll make it, too next year. I went from a sub-1.0 GPA and wanting to get an associate's in nursing to getting into med school. Nothing can stop us. :zip:

Hey Guys!

Im a California resident. Hispanic URM with avg stats. 3.7GPA, 30MCAT.
I was wondering more or less how OOS friendly the school is to accept applicant. Are the OOS acceptances usually nto people with strong state ties?
Like i mentioned, im from CA, with ZERO state ties. trying to compile my list of schools for the 2013-2014 cycle. Sounds like an awesome university I would love to apply, but also don't want to waste money if I have a very slim chance.

Thank you for your help and Honesty. Congrats to everyone who got in here!

Here's the info they gave us last fall at interviews about the class of 2016:
58% IS
42% OOS
Averages: 3.74, 33Q

Historically, the CO state legislature doesn't provide a lot of funding to higher ed institutions... Hence the high OOS number (and tuition ). It's definitely not as exclusive to state residents as many state schools.

It is an awesome university! 😍

Good luck with your app cycle!

Those stats posted by HunterJumper are correct. Our class (2016) ended up with a higher-than-usual OOS/IS ratio -- usually I'd say it's closer to 30/70. Many out-of-staters are from California, and the school gives no consideration whatsoever to "ties" to Colorado -- either you're in-state or you're not.

Any educated guesses on when the majority of decisions will come out? March 15th like 2011? End of March like 2012? Or scattered in batches through May?

According to the status page, all applicants will be informed of final decisions by March 31st so scattered batches through May seems unlikely.

It'll either be tomorrow or the last week of March since next week is their spring break. Crossing fingers for tomorrow though! 👍

Tomorrow is Match Day, though, so some of the Admissions staff might be a bit busier tomorrow than on a normal friday!😀

I can't wait to see the match list for 2013!! 👍

I hope you guys get good news soon!!:luck:

I hope you're having a fabulous break, LingoLaine! Thanks for the correction.

I also hope that more acceptances really are forthcoming. Ack.

Accepted today at around 10:30 am!

Trad, IS, GPA > 3.9, MCAT - 27, average-ish ECs.

Normally I just hover on this site, but I wanted to post my stats to possibly give hope to all the other folks out there with a low MCAT!

Fingers crossed for you guys!

Since you guys gave times of notification, I assume the news came via email(?).

Accepted! Email received at 10:35 this morning. 3.78 gpa 32Q MCAT, re-applicant. It's been quite the season - 2 years of my life spent on this process. Feeling so honored and excited. I love this program!

For those of you reapplying, do take heart. I spent quite a bit of time this past year wondering why I hadn't gotten in round one. Perhaps it was the need for some more volunteer hours, a couple more letters of recommendation, etc; I think, however, it was me showing my passion and enthusiasm for medicine. I was unsure my first year (even though I thought I was sure...) about going to med school and being a physician and I think that came across in my interviews. A by product of all that rumination this past year is my certainty of this path - I can't imagine doing anything else!

Hmm... I wonder if this means waitlists/rejections for those of us who haven't heard back yet...

I called this afternoon and they said that there were still open seats, so there might be more acceptances coming this week and next!

Accepted this morning!! This is my dream school, I can't believe it.

I wonder why this year's thread is so much less active than last year's. Could that mean there are fewer applicants this year? There are more than twice as many pages by this month in last year's thread.

Or perhaps the individuals this year are simply less loquacious and more careful about the personal information they wish to divulge online.

Don't think that has much to do with it.

I don't share my identity because of the TOS, but as I was just talking about yesterday with someone 🙂hello🙂, I don't make it hard to figure out who I am if you know me offline.

To me, anonymity is for concerns about safety, shame, or responsibility. I'm not concerned about any of those issues in these forums. I consider this to be a place for us to learn from each others' experiences and for engaging in constructive argument. I wouldn't say anything to anyone here that I wouldn't also say in person.

Also, I'm not getting self-righteous and implying that anyone that doesn't want to be known has something to hide. I do not think that at all. It's a personal choice, one which I always respect. And, I recognize that I'm in the minority, since I've not ever recognized who someone is based on their posts here.

Anyhow, as a re-applicant, I understand how much this coming week sucks for those who haven't heard anything, probably the majority of interviewees. On the off chance this helps, having another year really helped me to grow professionally and personally in ways that I couldn't have in med school, so I would not go back in time to get an acceptance last year if I could. :luck:

So, do you think that if we haven't heard anything yet we will be waitlisted or rejected, like last year? I know there is a lot of turmoil in the admissions office with both Dr. Winn and Dimple Patel leaving, but I also know I'd cling to any reason for hope just about now.

Wow, I didn't know that Dimple was leaving! She's so sweet! 🙁

Wow that's news to me, as well. Dr. Winn was kind of the rockstar of our interview day. Any information as to why they're leaving?

Boo! When did you interview? There wasn't any talk of this in November, when I interviewed, though perhaps it was still on the down-low.

Oh, my bad. It was mentioned at the U of MN when I interviewed there in Jan.

sorry for the dumb question - the acceptance contract that we need to sign/submit within 2 weeks of our acceptance is non-binding, right?

Yup! Non-binding. They just want to know if you are at least interested in attending the school. Some people who have already been admitted to their first choice would (hopefully) opt out at that point. May 15 is still the date to accept only one offer.

How could Colorado NOT be your first choice?? Incomprehensible! 😀

Never despair

31 March is nearly upon us. I haven't the foggiest how CUSOM Admissions handicapped me in this race. Is it possible they'll still dish out some acceptances this week? If we're all fated for the waitlist or a rejection, why have they waited so long for us and not for others?

Also, March 31 is a Sunday. So perhaps Friday is the day?

Why does it get harder and harder to be patient? 🙄

I mean, it's gotta be, ja? Or would that be too obvious?

I can envision a nightmare scenario on 1:37am Thursday morning where I, in severe constipation, turn over to check my phone and then noooooooooooo

Trudging through the thread, I don't know what to make of the fact they've been seemingly sprinkling in rejections with acceptances, and of the fact we've heard neither way.

It doesn't seem like the school is consistent in how they do this year-to-year, either.

Last year's thread on doomsday was 1) pandemonium and 2) strictly for rejections/waitlists. I'm guessing that acceptances aren't CU's currency this upcoming Friday.

Sigh. Yeah, probably.
