I didn't even get an interview and I manage a group of clinics in CT, got a recommendation from an attending at an affiliated hospital, above median MCAT, and am sitting on 5 acceptances elsewhere. At the start it was one of my top choices.

All is well that ends well I guess (re: your acceptances).

I keep trying to adopt the thinking of "everything happens for a reason"-- It is increasingly hard to focus on while being waitlisted from UCONN and waiting to hear back from Quinnipiac.

Yea I don't mean to sound like a complainer, I just really love UCONN and the hospital there. I think it's a perfect blend of Urban and suburban, it has the budget of a huge university but the feel of a small one, and I could have rotated at some of my current mentor's hospitals. Since I graduated from high school in CT I would get in state tuition, and could still make some money here or there freelancing for my current employer.

Same. Any idea when the list starts to move or if it's ranked?

This is the explanation I got via email from Dr Zeff, the assistant dean of admissions:

"Since the Admissions Committee has not yet completed review of all applicants, I am not able to specify a rank-ordered position at this time. We will contact you during the next few months to update your status within the alternate list."

Cool, man, look forward to seeing you. I think I'm just going to bring all of the financial stuff with me that weekend and give it to somebody or put it in some drop box.

Hi, can somebody tell me what the interview is like? Is it one long one or 2 short ones? Also, is it closed or open file? Has the interviewer read your application?

Thanks!

There are 2 interviews: one with a faculty member (my interviewer was also on the admissions committee) and one with a current student. They had read my file.

Haven't checked this thread in a while, but I was accepted back in November, and I'm 100% sure that I'll be matriculating. Going to the second look weekend just for the heck of it, since the health center is 30 minutes from where I live currently. Anybody else going? Someone mentioned dropping off financial aid paperwork during the second look weekend-- good idea!

I'm in the same situation, except I'm about 15 min away, so I will see you at second look (and dropping of financial aid is def a good idea)

Also likely the same situation except that I'm about 40 minutes away. Very excited to go.

Any idea what we will be doing? And I know this is less formal than interviewing but what is the suggested dress code?

great question, not sure. I'll probably be dressed somewhat nicely, but not formal by any means.

maybe a current student who might see this in the next few weeks, let us know...

Im afraid not. The last interviews go the first couple weeks of march, they sent out the last ii in jan/early feb. They are also pretty much waitlisting everyone at this point as the class is pretty much full. Not the best news, Sorry.

Waitlisting everyone as in "everyone except those we reject" or "everyone who we might have accepted but don't have room for so we have to rank them"? Not sure if you can clarify

Thanks for the info good/bad news I just wish schools would be more communicative about their decisions or application status, although I understand its difficult with the volume of apps

Weird. Looking at the people in the accepted students group, there are no people from the group that I interviewed with.

Not sure if there are from mine. Everyone going to 2nd look get their schedule/host email a couple days ago?

Yup! Black Bear was a good choice. Also, I e-mailed the coordinator about dress, and she said casual is fine, wear whatever you want.

Psyched. 😎

So I'm just gonna put it out there... Who's okay with a dog next year

The admissions meetings take place “the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month” or “every other Tuesday.” I put it quotes because they adjust for holidays and that sort of thing.

So far they seem to’ve had meetings on the following days: 10/9, 10/23, 11/13, 11/27, 12/11 & 1/8.

Those accepted seem to hear back from UConn following the second admissions meeting after their interview (i.e. your file is not reviewed the following meeting but rather the one after that).

So, IF they stick to the “2nd & 4th Tue” rule, the next meetings should be: 1/22, 2/12, 2/26, 3/12, 3/26, etc.

Therefore, if your interview is/was [ ] you “should” hear back a day or two after ( )
[12/14, 12/17, 12/21, 1/4, 1/7] --> (1/22)
[1/11, 1/14, 1/18, 1/21] --> (2/12)
[1/25, 1/28, 2/1, 2/4, 2/8, 2/11] --> (2/26)
[2/15, 2/18, 2/22, 2/25] --> (3/12)
[3/1, 3/4, 3/8, 3/11] --> (3/26)

Of course, this is only hypothetical and doesn’t take into account: snow days and other natural/supernatural/karma caused disasters (you knew you should’ve cleaned Fluffy’s litterbox more than once during the month you were cat-sitting Mrs. Smith’s “little baby,” and now your interview got cancelled. Karma’s a b…); if UConn gets behind in the review process; if they decide to follow the “every other Tue” rule (then meeting days would change to: 1/22, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/19, etc.); and a million other things.

Just as an fyi to anyone still waiting: I believe the dates got a little blurry due to Nemo and the MD/PhD review week. I wouldn't panic if these don't line up.

Hi everyone,
This is still up in the air, but one reasonably likely combination for me and my significant other is that I'll be at UConn next year and they will be in New Haven (not at YSM, though ^_^). So... if that's what we end up doing, where should we live? (We'll be renting.)

We have one car and would like to keep it that way. Another consideration is that I'm a bad/reluctant driver and would prefer not to be driving a couple of hours a day. On the other hand, New Haven seems like a more fun place to live than Farmington, and my partner is probably going to have a lot of free time (whether to hang out with classmates or just do other things around town) since I'll be so busy!

We considered living in Hartford, since there's an Amtrak "shuttle" to New Haven, but that seems expensive (and I'd still have to drive, right?). (West Hartford would be okay, but then there's the problem of getting to Hartford for Amtrak, and that's a lot of public transportation for my partner to be dealing with twice a day, every day.)

If we lived somewhere in between (like Wallingford or Meriden? I don't know much about the towns between Farmington and New Haven), maybe I could carpool with people who work at UCHC or something?

I don't know. I am also tired of living in a city and am hoping for a backyard and some trees. Any opinions? I would appreciate any help!

Would you both have a car? If so, I would recommend living somewhere in the middle, possibly Meriden or Middletown (a college town). That shouldn't be too bad of a commute for either of you-- I think trying to take the train everyday is a mistake since it would get very expensive. Chesire is also nicely located, close to 84 for getting to Farmington and close to 91 for getting to NH, possibly also Southington but that could start to become a long commute. Chesire is very residential, and that seems to be what you're looking for. I've never visited Meriden but I think it's more urban than Chesire, Middletown or Southington.

I agree with lostintranscrip, Meriden or Middletown would probably be your best bet. Middletown has a nice downtown and main street has a bunch of restaurants/bars/boutique shops and wesleyan is right there as its main visitors, so theres a bunch of college kids in the area. Meriden is a little more rural and spread out, but the fringes of middletown are like this too. Meriden is a little closer to New Haven and 691 runs right through it to put you on 84 to farmington. If your looking for pretty rural, then Durham is probably the way to go, it is just south of Middletown and directly east of Meriden, but then your looking at a longer way to Farmington and New Haven.

CT public transportation isn't the best, you will probably need to figure out the best way to share the car.

Has anyone gotten a "high alternate" status, or are we all just alternate status?

Yup I saw that, however I'm not sure if by ranking he was referring to the rank within each part of the waitlist. Looking back on threads from previous years, the distinction has been made as early as January which is definitely prior to the end of interviewing :-/.

waiiiit... have you guys heard something? Do you get a waitlist email yesterday or something?

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UConn, here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!

When are we supposed to finally be rejected? I'm OOS and haven't heard ANYTHING since my secondary was done in August.
