That does seem rough!
Anyone know how UMed interviews work / how many people interview?
Anyone know how UMed interviews work / how many people interview?
Can anyone comment on how important it is to have a car in Chicago or if we need to for school before m3/m4? Never lived in a big city before!
You'll be 100% fine for M1/M2 years if you put in even the slightest amount of planning in where you live.
could you please elaborate a bit on this? do most students live within walking distance, or do most take the L?
thanks!
+1 Same here!I've been waiting for quite a while...my application states "Acceptance and Deposit Received, Pre-Enrollment requirements not yet complete (Please see above)"
Seems like their waiting on my transcript and hepatitis B form...anyway, how long does it take them to mail the campus selection back? I feel like I've been waiting for about 3 weeks so far...
A lot of students, at least in the preclinical years, live within 10-15 minute walking distance from campus. I live about 10 min away and there's a ton of M1s and M2s around me.
I just logged in and my status has changed from "Applicant in Process" to "Interview Scheduling," and its a different screen with the 3 campus choices listed. Looks like I have an interview invitation pending??? Has this happened to anyone else? It says my Interview Letter Date is 2/15/2013, but I haven't received an email. Do they send interview invitations via usps postal mail or via email?
Thank you! And thanks for the advice. Admissions said I will get something in the Postal Mail, but that they don't have any dates available right now (yikes-not sure what this means), so I will wait to receive the letter.
Thanks so much-that makes sense! 🙂They get posted in batches. My guess is the last batch is full and they haven't posted the next one yet, so just keep checking in. The letter itself isn't too much, it just says you've been invited to interview, to check the chart of dates, and to call them (I actually think it was word for word the same as the email, so I'm not sure why they send both). And good luck 🙂

How did you go about finding an apartment and in what area? I've done a bit of looking, but I know certain areas are not the safest.

I got an II as well today!! 2/15/13. So finally relieved! I have been in "Applicant in Progress/Process" for such a long time. Maybe we might get the same date.
But my concern right now is that since its already mid-Feb, I feel like my chance of getting in w/out being waitlisted is pretty low. I read somewhere on this thread that II/Acceptance rate is like 50-60%. Does that sound right?
Any thoughts?
I haven't gotten mine either.Has anyone who was accepted in the last round not received their campus assignment yet? Or am I the only one? 🙁
Hey everyone, congrats to the students who have gotten interviews and those who have already been accepted! Just received my interview invite by snail mail today (no e-mail yet) and I was wondering if anyone who's already interviewed could give any insight into their experience...any info would help. Thanks! (Sidenote: In-state, interviewing @ Chicago)
Oh I'm def going to the interview. I live pretty close to the Chicago campus. Just getting an idea on what I'm going to expect during and after the interview.

Glad I'm not the only one! I might call soon to see if they mailed it.I haven't gotten mine either.

Called today. The admissions office said they hadn't heard back from the committee about which campus I would be assigned to.Glad I'm not the only one! I might call soon to see if they mailed it.
So Little Italy/Pilsen? Do many students live in East Village or the Loop? Thanks for all your help!
From people I've talked to, I've been told to stay away from Pilsen. Also try to live east of campus. Most of the crime happens to the West
I agree, I live in Pilsen as well. Its not as a bad as people say. But, the medical district is not safe from crime either.
For those of you that had to complete the background check because of an acceptance at UIC, did your status change before or after receiving the background check request email? I received the email yesterday, and I think it can only be UIC asking me to do it, but no status change. I'm just insanely curious about what school has waitlisted or conditionally accepted me. Thanks.
Gotcha - guess I've seen a bunch of people recently who consider not attending an interview if their chances are low and I figured that was implicit.
Here's my sum-up of my Chicago interview:
The med school building is an older building with a lot of character - a plus if you're me, but perhaps a con if you want new and shiny. There are two groups of interviewees, morning and afternoon. I was in the afternoon group, which meant that as I was arriving, the morning group was just finishing up their interviews and getting ready for our presentation (I think I'm remembering this all correctly but I might be wrong). Then we had lunch, which seems to vary between different days. We had Chinese food 😀. Current students were there to answer any questions we had. I think the tour was after lunch. Then we all came back to the same room where we had been before and started the interview schedule. Everyone has three one-on-one interviews - one with a current student, one with a faculty member or other UIC staff member, and one with an admissions committee member. Admissions staff members or the interviewers themselves will lead you to your interview locations.
For me, other than the MMI, this was the interview where I encountered the most 'ethical situation' questions, some of which were very straightforward and others which seemed a bit like a guessing game. Two of my three interviews were very chill, and one of them was actually quite stressful. I left being pretty worried that I had screwed up the interview, but ended up getting accepted, so don't worry too much if you found an interview stressful.
As always, with any interview, YMMV. Good luck to you guys and everyone else with interviews coming up!
Tomorrow could be another anxious day for those of us waiting for acceptances.
#Third Thursday
Yea, we had pizza at my interview. It was nice that they escort you to your interviews. @ the MMI, I didn't know UIC had MMIs, but then again I didn't really know what MMIs were until after I interviewed there.

Generally Little Italy. Most of your options will be on Laflin/Lexington/Flournoy/Loomis/Taylor. If you live here, it's a 10-15 walk to the school. Plus, if you're feeling lazy or it's cold outside, the bus is a short walk away.
There's crime everywhere, especially if you're stupid. There's been a few robberies around me and I live in Little Italy. Best thing is to walk with friends (if you live on campus), take Red Car after 11pm, and don't talk on your phone or listen to headphones while you're walking.
Sorry if this has been asked before.
Should I fill out fafsa information for UIC if I have had a few months of "no final decision?" I don't want to jinx myself, but I would also like to be able to afford to go to school if I do end up getting an acceptance. I really don't know the protocol for this so I was hoping someone with some previous experience could weigh in. Thanks!
Also, just FYI, the med building at the Chicago campus is starting renovations (for those of you that like shiny new things). Edelstone (the study lounge) is starting renovations this summer, and the lecture halls are starting next year. They should be done by the time you guys are M2s.
