So, I've been complete since 9/17.. I know a wave of invites went out last week because I know someone who submitted a few days after I did and got one. We're both in-state.

My status hasn't changed since 9/17, so I'm wondering if I'm on hold or if my rejection letter is in the mail.

Don't worry, there are plenty of us who were complete longer than that waiting for II. I have noticed that U of Ky seems to send out their invites in large groups but U of L seems to send out the invites in smaller groups and the interviews are closer to the invite.

For example, people getting U of L invites recently are still scheduling in Oct. and Nov. but if you got a U of Ky invite today you wouldn't be able to interview until almost Feb.

It makes a difference that U of L screens before they offer secondaries so don't stress yet.

Anybody have an opinion about whether we will hear today or tomorrow?

I'm fairly confident we should hear something today. I'm a reapp and ul was fantastic with communication last cycle. If they were running behind they would let us know when to expect next communication. Let us know when you hear! Gl!

I still haven't but when I interviewed on the 2nd they said we should know today.

Good luck guys!

I'm still hoping for an II.

Got acceptance email this morning

Interviewed on 9/27

ACCEPTED!! So excited! Has anyone else been accepted to the Trover rural track yet?

This may be a silly question, but the email says you must accept the offer in writing within 14 days. Is emailing Pamela sufficient?

Accepted this morning. Interviewed 27th.

Called, got told I would receive an email by the end of the business day. Got an email about 10 minutes later.

*edit*
Did you interview in the morning or afternoon group turmoil? Think I know who you are.

University of Kentucky vs. Louisville: Why choose UoL over UK?

I know students who are in their first two years at both schools and I like what I hear from UofL better. In addition I feel like the clinical opportunities in Louisville can't be matched.

University of Kentucky vs. Louisville: Why choose UoL over UK?

I have what I consider to be very good reasons for choosing one over the other, but they are personal reasons having to do with my wife not having to change jobs, inexpensive and trustworthy childcare (if you have a kid you'll know just how huge a deal that is) and the fact that we lived in Lexington for 4 years.

Academically, I think both are good schools and you will get a quality education at either. UK's program of studies introduces you to pt contact earlier than is typical for most medical schools, a format that seems to be getting pushed to med schools. UL has more physician resources available to shadow etc., which you can use for additional ammo come residency match time. As far as stat's/rankings go, I think both are similar (not a lot of confidence in this statement, I haven't looked at them in over a year)

I think one of the biggest differences for those who get to chose (in all honesty, 2 weeks ago I didn't think I'd get into either) will be the cities. If you find yourself in the position to choose, I'd recommend trying to stay at both cities for a week (if you can swing it) and find out which one you like more. After all, you'll be there for a long time.

I'm not sure either. Have you found out whether email is acceptable or if we have to actually mail a letter to her?

.

You'll be doing 2 years of clinical shadowing physicians.... additional shadowing, is it really that helpful - you will be doing too much as you'll be studying.

That makes it harder to decide... How about residencies after graduation, i.e. more available in UoL hospitals - do they prefer UoL graduates?

After paying my deposit, the confirmation email stated that either a written out letter or Email letter would be acceptable.

Is this deposit refundable? Is the letter they sent that you'll sign?

👍👍👍

I sent my response by email this morning and they confirmed it not long after

Your $100 deposit can be refunded up until May 15th, 2013, at which point you have to let them know one way or the other. Once I paid my seat deposit they sent an email stating a letter or email is acceptable for accepting the offer, but I'm waiting to see if they send out a standard letter you just sign and mail back.

Do you get automatic email that they got the deposit? Or someone manually responded?

I was about to ask the same thing because I paid my deposit online on Friday, but I never received a confirmation email.

Is anyone familiar with the best places to live in Louisville during med school? What are the nicest/safest areas of this town?

Two questions for anyone who may know.

1) For those of us who interviewed just prior to the Oct 15th notification date (Oct 11), is it expected that we'll be discussed during tomorrow's committee meeting? Notified of something this Wednesday?

2) As far as the Trover Rural track. If we've received the application and decide to send it back, how does it affect our possible acceptance to the regular program? I guess I'm wondering if we are locked in to the Trover program if we gain acceptance simply by indicating our interest on that secondary application. I'm one of the folks who wants the regular program, but would take the Trover program if it meant I got in. Make sense?

I was just going to ask about Trover too. I was wondering if we didn't get into Trover are we still considered for the regular MD program?

Do you mean, if you got accepted to Trover and want to be considered for Regular program as well? I think the way it works, if you applied for Trover and not selected for Trover, you go to regular program pool selection process.

well im thinking more along the lines of - if they are discussing you in the committee meeting of the regular program and notice you have an upcoming interview with trover - would they say something to the effect of "Let's hold off on a decision on this person because they may be going to trover". I'm hoping that one has nothing to do with the other as far as acceptance.

I was just accepted for the Trover Rural track. To my knowledge, it doesn't officially affect your acceptance to Louisville, but the student touring me through Trover told me they really feel like it is just one more person rooting for you to get in. After your separate interview at the Trover hospital you will have to sign and mail back a form indicating if you're still interested in the rural program or if you only want to be considered for the main campus. If for some reason you don't get into the rural program, you will be kicked back into the main pool for consideration at just Louisville.

It's possible they could hold off on making a decision. My letter specifically states that I have been accepted to the Trover campus. I wasn't accepted to the main campus, then to Trover, so I guess it's sort of a package deal. You could always try emailing Pamela to be sure. She usually responds within a day or so.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about Trover 🙂.

Trover Applicants, how did you submit the supplemental application for Trover? Did you fax it, mail it, or email?

Application complete e-mail received October 18th.
Interview invite today, October 23rd.

Non-traditional applicant.

cGPA/BCPM/MCAT
3.35/3.70/30S(9P, 12V, 9B)
NY resident, with strong family ties to Louisville.

Not sure what to make of it. I am pleasantly surprised and happy, because I love everything that I have heard about the school and would be ecstatic to attend. The clinical education that the Louisville students receive appears to be superb. I have been submitting my secondaries ever since I received my September 11th MCAT score on October 11th, and this is my first interview invite. Is this a good sign that the turnaround was so fast?

I think that is a good sign, but what do I know?

Congratulations!

Nope, regular, I don't think they even have my Trover app yet. Just submitted Trover yesterday.

Ha, yeah I saw your recent posts about Trover.. that would've been a crazy fast turnaround. I just got the trover application as well.

Congrats on the II!:xf:

Nope, check your email, I'm pretty sure you got an invite!

Thanks so much. Congrats to you as well on your interview! I saw on eduers.com that Louisville accepts a significant percentage of those that they interview, can you tell me if you have heard the same? My state medical schools accept less than 50% of those that they interview, I believe. I have heard that Louisville is higher, for both IS and OOS applicants, because they don't interview as many applicants as other schools do. As someone who would really prefer to attend Louisville over one of my state schools, I hope this is true. Here's the eduers data from 2009:

http://www.eduers.com/Medical/Kentucky/University_of_Louisville_School_of_Medicine.html

Total admissions data 2179 applied, 369 interviewed, 247 were accepted, 148 enrolled
In-state admissions data 417 applied, 276 interviewed, 185 were accepted, 119 enrolled
Out-state admissions data 1762 applied, 93 interviewed, 62 were accepted, 29 enrolled

I will certainly be praying. 🙂

I would like the answer to this too.

Whoops, I just edited my post with the relevant data (3 years out of date). Sorry about that. I can take some solace in the fact that they only interview around 6% of OOS applicants according to my MSAR handbook, but I lean on the pessimistic side when it comes to this process. 😛

IS applicant. My app has been finalized since 31 JUL, and I have yet to hear anything whatsoever. TELL ME SOMETHING, ANYTHING!!!

Medical school rejections hurt worse than getting cut from my 7th grade basketball team, lol.

I faxed my supplemental for Trover on 8/23 and didn't hear anything until I got an II on 9/11, almost three weeks later. At that point my interview at Louisville was already scheduled for 9/27, but Trover was able to squeeze me in the day before on 9/26 (kind of like UK).

II!!!!!! Yes!

Congrats!!

I don't know where I read this, but I am thinking acceptance is around 50% or higher of those interviewed. At the interview Pamela said they over accept the class initially and still have a good amount of movement on their hold list. Kentucky schools do have a preference for IS applicants, but it's definitely not impossible for OOS applicants. Here's the most recent entering class statistics from Louisville's websites:

Class Make-up 2012
CLASS SIZE 155
KY RESIDENTS 77% (120)
NON-RESIDENTS 23% (35)

And links to all of their more detailed statistics: http://louisville.edu/medschool/admissions/student-profile/entering-fall-2012

Thanks so much for your response. That data is very interesting. I looked at the class make-up for the prior two years and it was 120 in-staters and 40 out-of-staters both times. I wonder why they only accepted 155 total this year (and 5 fewer out of staters) instead of 160. I do have strong ties to Louisville and I mentioned them in the app, so hopefully the OOS won't count against me too much.
