From the twitter:
We are now at the unfortunate point in our review process where we will begin to close files. Our first set will be sent Monday.
Having been complete since 7/9, I am not optimistic about my chances. :scared: Good luck everyone!

I just got an II a few days ago, having been complete since 7/13, so there may still be hope for people complete since forever ago! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

Go ahead and reject me Michigan, see if I care. GO IRISH!!!!!! #1

any rejections yet?

I think so. My status says, "Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience."

Should I take that as a rejection?
It kind of sucks because I thought I had pretty good stats (3.9, 38), I guess I'm just too good for them😀

I believe this just means your on hold. The "under review" status explanation mentions the possibility of some on hold time, and the twitter announcement used the wording of "closing files", so as long as your file is still open I don't think you're rejected!

hm i still have the "file complete-under review" status, but have had that since late july, so I figured I was just on hold

I don't think this has to be confusing, 99% sure the file complete/under review status simply means they haven't gotten to our file yet, it doesn't mean we are on hold because clearly there is a different on hold status, the one that says we can't offer you an interview at this time but your file is still open. That's what makes sense to me at least.

Contacted Michigan about a LOI that I had written. Sent it just a bit ago through their upload documents tab. Will let you all know how it goes!

"I've received questions about Letters of Interest/Intent--neither are considered as part of our process." From their twitter on Friday.

Well I missed that tweet, but I called the admissions office this morning and the admissions staff who answered the phone said the adcom would be happy to read my letter and told me to submit it online whenever I wanted. I can't expect telling UofM how much I would love to go to their school would hurt my application...

I'm not saying it'll hurt, just that it seems like a waste of time. I'm a Michigan grad and would instantly cancel every other app if they accept me, but I'll just hope they give me an interview so I can express that to them.

Since this is a public forum, I won't rank where Michigan falls compared to other schools I've applied to, but I don't think it's excessive to estimate that >85% of IS-applicants have UMich ranked as their #1. I'm sure it's very highly ranked for a ton of OOS students also. It's an amazing school.

By the sound of it a lot off SDNers would give their first born child for an interview here at this point

Does Michigan offer automatic interviews? If so, what kind of numbers are they looking for? I think I didn't get one because I was complete pretty late (09/12). I've heard of people getting invites before they submit their secondaries, is this true or are they just trying to make me feel bad?

They do offer automatics, but it seems you need to be pretty special to get one. I'm not sure if they're offering them still, but the did earlier in this year (July for the most part). My high school buddy was offered one after submitting AMCAS on ~6/9. His number are close to these:
3.9+, 37S, IS(!), father attended for MD, and 4 years of research/volunteering/shadowing with fantastic letters.

I have those numbers and no auto-invite for me lol

It's a hit or miss. Also, he was in-state (likely a significant factor). For all I know the OOS numbers may be 3.9+, >37, along with those other additions to your application. Keep in mind their average MCAT last year was a 34.2, ranging from 26-43*.

*43?!?!? Dear God!

They actually mentioned on their twitter that this year they are no longer doing auto-invites

People who have already interviewed: Michigan has said they tell you at your interview the day you will hear your decision. What is the time interview between interview and decision date?

Depends on when you interview. For the majority (if not all) of those prior to Oct 15, they will find out at some point on that day. I believe there is a PDF somewhere on the UM website listing days they offer interviews and days the committee comes together to make decisions. My guess would be after that date is when a decision is released.

another Thursday gone. Still "under review" 🙁

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using SDN Mobile

Excited for the prospect of attending Michigan! It is going to be a long two weeks until decisions are out on the 15th:xf:

For those of you waiting for an interview invitation, be patient. Michigan is a tremendous place and the admissions committee really does spend a lot of time reviewing the strengths of each applicant.

CalBear - Does your status page still just say interview scheduled?

update from admissions tracker 10/1:
Applications Received: 4806
Interviews Offered: 364

pretty intersting since the last update around sept was around 300 interviews offered. I thought by now they would have already given out close to 450/600. This gives me a slight bit of hope!

Yeah, saw that too! Also, according to the tracker, somebody applied OOS with a MCAT of 7...

That was me

But seriously, I'm OOS and below (slightly: 3.7-something GPA and 35 MCAT) their average interview stats, not by much though. Just kinda scary to look at. I really want to interview here.

"Will be a significant number of interview offers today" but no invite... time to accept my rejection 🙁

Thanks. Is "AEC Meeting" when the committee meets to make decisions?

Well, only MI residents received IIs today. Been "under review" for 2 months. That makes me feel better about not hearing anything. Oh wait, I am a MI resident...

From the twitter:

"Outcomes from 9/7 and 9/14 interview dates: 65% Accept-10% Defer-25% Waitlist-0% Reject."

Pretty high % of acceptances. Getting so antsy... one more week.

Holy crap, I wonder if the acceptance rate drops precipitously with later and later interview dates :scared:

I don't know about precipitously, but of course numerically speaking they can't keep giving out acceptances to 65% of interviewees

If you look at the US News & World Report numbers, last year they did offer acceptance to 65% of their interviewees. The class size is ultimately kept manageable by their matriculation rate.
