Awesome thanks for the input!
Is there anybody else who has thought that it will probably just be a waste of $75 to submit a secondary as an OOS? I'm having struggles as to what I should do.

Can someone familiar with admissions here weight in on whether or not spending several hours on these essays will be worth my time? They don't really fit with anything I've written yet. I'm sitting with a 33P, 3.71/3.72, PA resident, strong EOs, music major.

I say go for it! What's $68 in the long run of things for the chance at attending a school for 4 years that you might have a wonderful time at. Just make sure you pass the OOS MCAT/GPA screen: >32 MCAT, >3.59 cGPA 😉
Your stats are good, but as others have stated, UNC is extremely selective towards out of state applicants. There are many in state applicants with your stats who have been rejected from UNC in the past (myself included). If you don't do everything you can to have a good shot at UNC (including writing really good secondary essays), I don't think it's worth your $68.
thanks, I just called them and Ms.Joni told me that even though they have not started sending out interview invites, everyone should have the LORs in before Aug 31st. D:
I thought that screen was used for giving secondaries? Not a post-secondary screen?
I have a question for you guys - any opinion would be appreciated.
UNC would be a top 3 school for me. I am technically OOS, but am literally the first in my family born outside of NC in over 200 years. I have all kinds of familial and historical ties to NC (even lived in NC for some of my formative years) including direct ancestors who fought for NC in both Rev. and Civil Wars. How do I get across that I have very strong ties (stronger than most OOSers) although technically OOS? There is nowhere to address this on secondary. My stats are a little weak for OOS, but could be competitive if I got a little in-state consideration.
So I'm started to get a little worried since I haven't gotten a secondary yet and after reading some of this thread because I technically don't have as much clinical experience as I wish I did. I have a ton of experience in research but I've also spent a lot of time shadowing the doctors I've worked with in their clinics. I'm also working full time on my year off as a research assistant but most of our research is clinical trial work so the research really overlaps a great deal with clinical practice/treatment. I spend a lot of time interacting with patients in outpatient and inpatient settings. Any thoughts on whether those experiences might be enough clinical for UNC? I'm IS, 3.8/3.65/37Q.

Why do you think you were not accepted last cycle?I am a re-applicant as well. Since my last application I have added significant research experience including a publication and presenting at a national conference. I have also added more volunteer hours at a free clinic and community involvement through a dance program.
I just received a secondary on Friday. The screen for secondaries for re-applicants is still there even though a secondary no longer means getting an interview.
On another note: Has anyone had any recent trouble with submitting secondaries? I went to submit this morning and the button was already grayed out and the red type said it was already submitted. Also when clicking back through the application forms they were blank? I contacted the admissions office already - I was just wondering if this is a unique problem.

I have not yet received a secondary application from UNC. My primary application was processed on Jul. 28th. Are they supposed to automatically send me the secondary once they receive the primary or do they review my primary before deciding whether to send me the secondary? Thanks.
For those of you who have instate interviews, when did you submit your secondary and your LOR's ? Mine went in August 10th, not sure if I should start worrying yet.
So I called the admissions office yesterday and Ms. Reid told me that an instate secondary invite DOES NOT automatically mean interview. She also went on to say that she doesn't know where people get that idea from. I called a few weeks before then as well and another admission officer said that secondary invite DOES mean interview. lol? I don't know who to believe!
Anyway, I submitted my secondary on 7/31 (instate 33P, 3.95) so I hope it is the latter! No information on a interview invite for me yet.

so if i applied a month ago, is it certain that I was rejected?
36S/ c3.75/s3.66 / URM; not sure what could have gone wrong 🙁
