So maybe this is a stupid question, but I know that at one point in time you could access the questions that people reported being given during their interview at a specific school. Is that gone now or can I just not find it...?

In-state re-applicant...just got invited to interview! First available date was Monday, October 8th. Stats: ~3.75/33.

NCMED, I interviewed at UNC last year and didn't have the best experience, but that was largely because I over-prepared. During the first interview, if my answers deviated from the "script" I had practiced I began to think I was doing poorly. I ended up nervous and not performing as well as I should have. Not to mention, my first interviewer really grilled me on my leadership skills, which I wasn't very well prepared to answer. That said, my second interview was really laid back and enjoyable, as were most of the interviews I heard about that day.

My advice; relax. 🙂 Have a general idea of what you want to say for the most commonly answered questions, but don't over-prepare like I did. And if your interviewer asks you a strange question (UNC examples I've heard include "if you were a vegetable what would you be?" and "what are three items that are always in your refrigerator?"), just find the humor in it and answer as best you can! You'll do fine!

One other thing to note...UNC is very friendly to re-applicants (from what I understand). If for some reason you don't do as well as you could have, you'll get another shot next year if you'd like! Good luck!

Are you a reapplicant? That can take a bit longer b/c there is a separate reapp committee that doesn't meet as often. What are your stats/ECs?

Aww don't be so worried! To be honest, my interview last year (with the adcom member) was really bad...I bet yours wasn't as bad as mine, so I might be a bad basis for comparison! 🙂

Also, last year they had a little information booklet with brief biosketches of all the interviewers. Before your interview you had ~10-15 minutes to peruse this guide and learn a little bit about who would be interviewing you. Are they still doing that this year?

Since only one of them is on the admissions committee, what is the role of the other interviewer? Will they discuss with the committee member as well or something?

Immediately after your interview, both interviewers get together and compile a report on you. Your non admissions interviewer is also rather important. You want to give a good impression so you generate the strongest opinion possible by both interviewers.

I'm not sure how important it is, but I didn't see it first time around and then saw it about a month later and filled it out that day. I sent an apology email to the office and next day aired the form. They were really nice about the form and I got an ii the day the form made it into the office....

I think if it were important in the decisions process they would have reminded us to fill out already. It's probably more important in determining financial aid and that sort of thing, unless you thought you were an NC resident but actually aren't and had your residency form rejected, which would affect your admissions decision as well.

To address confusion, I go to school in KY and went to HS in KY so it was probably important to my application in determining that I was in fact IS.

Yeah, I didn't receive the email and I haven't interviewed yet (interviewing in early October). Also, as a side note, I don't think the residency form is important for admissions purposes necessarily, but you will definitely want to have it completed well before you intend to matriculate!

Is this true at UNC? It makes sense that if you are invited for an interview they are theoretically o.k. with your stats, etc. But do these come back into play when making a final decision, or is it really just how well the interview goes and how strongly your adcomm advocates for you at that point?

Dr. Fleenor mentions it in one of his SDN interview prep articles. I also read an article written by an adcomm from Ohio State who said:

"...medical schools generally only extend interviews to students who appear to have the right stuff to succeed. Translation: if you get offered an interview, there is a chair in that school’s first-year medical school class with your name on it. Based on your performance in the interview, you will either claim it or give it away."

Also, according to the UNC website, they interview 52% of IS applicants and about 40% of those interviewed are accepted.

Aww mind linking that stat? I hope it's that much. What I'm seeing thought is 885 IS applied. 464 interviewed and 147 accepted. Just my two cents towards interviews offers from state schools. I hope it means they are confident in our ability and we just needed a good interview.

Where did you get 147? That would mean 32% of the 215 total accepted students are OOS. That's not right. I believe only about 10% of accepted students are OOS. Which would mean they accept roughly 193 IS, which is 41.5% of those interviewed.
