Yeah I guess 🙂. But from what I've read in this and previous Penn threads, it seems this status can result in an II for a lucky few or rejections 🙁.

I still have the old status in red, so maybe it means that you guys will get reviewed again? Anyone ever received an II directly from the SOD without a change to the intermediate status?

I also have the new green status. Praying for an interview.

Does anyone else get the eery feeling that Penn's Adcoms are reading this thread and laughing at how sensitive we have now become to even changing font colors? Lol.

If I were the techie working for the AdCom and knew of this site, I'd probably have a little harmless fun :naughty: Who knows what the status changes mean other than their explicitly stated details, though. All we can do is :xf:

Would anyone please tell me if it's okay to book a flight back from Philly at 5:30pm on the interview day? Thank you!

Cutting it a little close, but probably! 👍
Interviews were 2pm, 2:45pm, and 3:30pm (pick 2, free time during 3rd slot), and generally lasted about 30 minutes or so each. The train station is an 8-10 minute walk from the hospital, and it leaves to go to the airport at 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5...and takes 15 minutes to get there. if you make the 4:30 one you'll be at your gate by 5:15, but if you call the admissions office and request to have the two earlier interview slots you'll probably make the 4pm train and have plenty of time to spare.
Loved Penn when I was there a couple months ago!! Best of luck!! 😍

UPenn's website states that the interview season last until mid January so I think it's all over.

so are interview invites all done? it doesn't look like anyone got an interview invite this week.

Yea that's what the admissions person told me (that I would hear this week if I got one). Not really a surprise, seems like I'm finishing this cycle with only 1 II.

I'm interviewing on Wednesday and I RSVPed for the pre-interview happy hour. Does anyone know how I should go about getting some information on that? i.e. where, what time, etc.? Any info is much appreciated!

A med student (or many) should meet interviewees at the Johnson Pavilion Security Desk around 5-5:15pm, and you'll all walk in a big group over to a restaurant for the happy hour. If you look at a campus map, this place is right next to Stemmler Hall (the med school). Coming 36th street from the north, just keep walking until you get to the med school, make a right, and walk in and you'll see the security desk. Good luck with your interview!! 😍😍

there's also a strong possibility they will email you today, but you can call admissions just to be safe to get some more info about it

Honest question, why do you end all your posts with 😍?

Hey, so I hope this will clear up a few questions.

When is the last Interview Day of the year?
-The final applicant Happy Hour is this Tuesday (tomorrow), January 22nd, which I would assume means that the final Interview Day of the semester is Wednesday, the 23rd.

Info re: the 1/22 Happy Hour
-I checked the Happy Hour med student signup list and it looks like it's 5:30pm at Med Mex. Typically, everyone meets at 5pm(ish) at the Johnson Pavilion Security Desk, as the previous post stated, and then walks over to Mad Mex together. You should receive an email from the coordinator(s) tonight (it's a holiday weekend so nobody's been too good about emails). I know who the two coordinators are, so if you have further questions, just shoot me a private message and I can send you their name/email addresses so that you can get in touch with them.

Have a great time!

Just a little levity as 5pm on Friday approaches...

Wait, I'm confused... What is happening on Friday at 5pm?

Today was Penn's last interview day. Last year around late January, everybody who had not interviewed received notice that they wouldn't be offered an interview this year, so I assume Friday at 5pm will be that unfortunate time of the application cycle. +pity+

My affection for you had increased dramatically, now that you're Nurse Joy. 🙂

So, this is probably irrelevant since people are saying that upenn is done interviewing. I just had my status change for SOD (no interview at this time...) and now it is green and says there is no change in status and my application continues to be reviewed. Is this just the precursor to get ready to get dumped tonight or do they possibly (my hopes are getting the better of me) have more interview dates?

IIRC, in the post-interview survey, the dates in the drop-down menu ranged from September 26 to January 23 when I did it way back when. Better to give practical advice than false hope? I hope this isn't mean but I'm trying to help!!

Nope, not mean, I appreciate the honesty! I just wish they would end it once and for all and post an update instead of saying that I continue to be reviewed. 🙂

We received an email today from the Director of Admissions asking for input on Penn Preview, in which she explicitly stated that the interview season is now over for Penn. Sorry to be the bearer of the news 🙁

I interviewed late November and never received that email.. what was the email about and what's the Penn Preview?
Is the Penn Preview thing only for the MSTPs?

doctorsox is a current Penn medical student, not an applicant.

Penn Preview is Penn's second-look weekend, where the school invites all accepted applicants and prospective matriculation so they can participate in a few days of events.

Most, if not all medical schools do some version of this and it's usually referred to as second-look day. Now that you have been accepted, the school can begin to sell you why you would belong at a certain school over others. Usually there is talk of housing, financial aid, tours of the city/town, and a whole lot of socializing events and sometimes mixers with the current students.

What are my chances of getting accepted into the University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) if I attend a community college and later transfer. Of course I plan on keeping my grades high and do the best I can..

+1 we all knew it was coming, but still a little sad to see that final message from my dream school. There's always residency. . .

+1 on the rejection train here. Wanderedtoolong, I hope you hear good news from UNC soon!

Most top end schools do not accept community college classes for prerequisites (eg I know Hopkins does not for a fact). Email Penn, ask if they accept community college classes, or check their website. If they don't, hope is not lost. You just need to do a postbac program at a university. After that.... Penn accepts about 1% of applicants.

Love that they told us to check the secondary website rather than email us outright....

Was this pre-interview? I am so sorry to hear this 🙁

Pre-interview rejection. Had the Status of Death for a while. Thanks for the heads up, fellow SDNers. They can't even send us an email notification? Really?👎+pissed++pissed++pissed+

Rejected. No surprise there. All good in the hood

Rejected as well. I don't know why, but my reaction when I saw the rejection status was laughter. It's almost february, the rejections are starting to make me go insane

Haha! Same here! My first rejection way back in early fall made me so, so upset. Now, I'm just laughing crazily. I just told a doctor I'm sitting with and we high-fived.

Ah well. Wasn't interested in Penn. Congrats to anyone receiving good news 🙂

Rejected as well 👎
No surprise there :meanie:

+1 for the rejection train, very happy with my 2 acceptances so far tho!

Rejected. One of the rudest rejections I've seen... Couldn't be more general, vague, and disinterested.

Rejected, too. Not a surprise.

I was a little confused by their email, as I was rejected without interview: "We hope that this information will enable you to make informed decisions about your medical education in the weeks ahead."

The only status change it could be for pre-interviewers is rejected. I don't know how that helps me make an informed decision about my medical education. The actual rejection message on the page is so short. This may be reading into things too much but it almost sounds like they're telling some people "we rejected you, and you should never be a doctor anyway considering your application."

Probably the strangest rejection I've gotten yet.

This is interesting. Could someone post the rejection message?

Also got one:

Thank you for your interest in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. You were among many candidates applying for acceptance to our class entering in the Fall 2013.

Although we are unable to offer you a position in the class, we hope you will succeed in your career goals to become a physician.

I am so relieved that I can honestly say, I couldn't care less about this rejection. 🙂
