Does any other school give applicants aprons and gloves to dig in to the cadavers? Many dont let interviewees into the anatomy lab at all. This was by far the coolest interview experience.

Dont get me wrong, its cool and all we can dissect it! But Im just a pre-med student and idk if people donate their bodies for the reason of admissions 😛

I was complete in late August. My status is "Complete - Application Update: The Committee on Admissions reviewed your application but has not invited you for an interview at this time. Additional reviews will occur and any change in your status will be communicated to you."

Am I in the running for an interview, on hold for later re-review, or informally rejected? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

No. My group just got a big table at Mad Mex. I think less than half got a drink. One thing to note is that the dinner/drink is on your dime.

Yeah, you don't need to be 21 to attend. They card you if you order a drink, but anyone is able to go and sit with the group. Mad Mex is more of a restaurant that serves drinks (really good drinks) than a bar that serves food, if that makes sense.

does anyone know the class profile of Penn Med in respect to undergraduate institution attended? Are there a lot of matriculants from UPenn Undergrad?

According to MSAR, 12% of med students at Penn also went there for undergrad.

At this point in the game, would a complete status or sod be better? I was complete early August and am still in limbo.
Silent rejection?

Still got complete status but was complete late sep/early oct, good sign or neutral sign? lol

I'm in the same boat and I called yesterday to check (just to make sure people hadn't forgotten me) and the admissions people really had no extra information.

I just interviewed here. Just received an email from the Dean of Diversity & Inclusion (oddly at like midnight, lol) saying something like "I hope you got a good sense of the community of faculty and students you will be a part of if you choose to do your medical education at UPenn". This sounds encouraging, right? Am I crazy? This application process has driven me to the brink, I think-- I'm reading way into things.

Hey there! Dr. Delisser, right? He's an awesome guy, I spoke with him a little bit after my interview and he really tries to get you to love Penn as much as possible. I was like, you don't need to encourage me more, I want to go here! But sadly he said he has absolutely nothing to do with admissions, so even though I got super excited after getting that e-mail from him the day after my interview I knew it wasn't really affecting my chances. But good to see that people like him really care about the applicants. Penn really does show that a lot during the interview day.

Edited to add: can any others that went to the diversity breakfast confirm that it goes out to all applicants that attended?

That would be so heartbreaking for them to use that kind of language and then reject you! haha

+ 1 to SOD. Not sure when my status changed, was complete late August.

Your quote just caused me to check my status and I'm SOD too. Not sure why there was no email telling me that this occurred. That sucks. I thought I was lucky not having it.

No-one received an email.

I doubt it means anything, I have a 3.73/34 mcat, was complete late sep, only 1 yr of research w/ no pub, and people seem to be rejecting me left or right, so I doubt I am appealing to Upenn,

the only thing is I have an uncle that graduated from their med school that I put down under alumni lol

That might be enough. DukeMed, for example, automatically interviews all children of alumni (source: http://medalum.mc.duke.edu/wysiwyg/downloads/DMAN_final4.pdf, pg. 13). Either way, there's still plenty of time. I submitted around the same time you did, and I only heard back last week. Good luck!

I just submitted a supplemental correspondence "thank you" to my interviewer and the receipt i received via email shows some formatting errors! i.e. quotation marks denoted as """ and a paragraph inserted in the middle of a word... did anyone else have problems similar to these? I hope this is okay and doesn't put off the committee! I'm being a perfectionist, I guess. Obsessive compulsive tendencies.

Congrats! Same story here! Except that I'm a KS resident!:claps:

have they sent out ANY rejections? If so, a SOD is not the worst thing.. if they haven't that is another story...

I believe UPenn doesn't send rejections till at least january.. but my memory is vague on this

What year are the students that do the interviews? Are they MS1s? MS4s?

Status of death!!!! I'm part of the group!!!! 3.7, 35 for those who care. Also sent an update letter

SOD 3.74, 34, complete 10/6ish , got closure lol, Is it even worth sending a LOI?

My stats/EC's aren't really good enough for this school

I would hope that they're deciding whether you go to a school based on other things besides a thank-you note regardless...

And if they read my thank-you notes, they're going to find a bunch of restaurant and book suggestions, so I hope they wouldn't be looking for "Remember: Here's why I'm awesome!"

Umm did anyone else's thank you notes not include multiple paragraphs and book and resteraunt recommendations? Mine were pretty simple.

I focused on why I was thankful for them taking the time to interview me.
