Accepted! Just received notice. Interviewed 9/21

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using SDN Mobile

What time did you guys receive emails? I interviewed on 10/3 and I can't stop aggressively refreshing my email.

So I accepted my acceptance yesterday 🙂

But is there no deposit? I feel like that is weird since everyone has deposits and the Keck admissions site says 100 dollar deposit.

Im worried Ill mess this step up and lose my spot. :scared:

+1 for the alternate list. Keep your chins up guys as they do accept a large number of interviewees in the end (around 2/3 I believe) so I assume annually a good number are taken off the alternate list.

It is also very early in the season so focus on other schools for now 🙂

However, it is disappointing that this early in the season we aren't reconsidered until May 15th

Thursday - Friday Trend.

When was that last time USC even sent out II's? Felt like I havn't seen anyone receiving II's in a while. Seems like the last 2~3 pages on SDN are all rejections.

What percent of II's do you guys think have gone out so far?

I'd say about 350. Hopefully tomorrow we will be mirin' USC's gains! Come on Interview Invite, be good to us.

Thank you Based God

so about 70%?? msar from last year says ~500. Well that makes more sense. Hoped someone who interviewed could give us a better number estimating from interviewees/day and # of interview dates filled out so far. =]

really really really hoping for one.

got my acceptance tonight! interviewed 9/26! so happy this was my top choice.

go Trojans! V

This has made me wonder: did dnyone who didn't put "Southern California" or "Los Angeles" as their favorite place on earth get interviews?

Lol im pretty sure if you put those answers it would make it less likely for you to get an interview.

Posters that have been following the "Thursday/Friday" trend. What is in store for us tomorrow oh great ones?

Thank You Based God!

Hopefully a big one since the last couple weeks have been all rejections. But, due to the increased workload of admissions trying to get all these acceptances out, I have a bad feeling this will be a pretty silent week.

Here is hoping for the best!

😱This is what I put....GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I actually went scuba diving there once so I thought it was appropriate.

Yeah, I studied there for a few weeks as part of my school's overseas program.

Accepted yesterday! So excited I LOVED this school.

But question!! I have an interview scheduled with Irvine in a bit and would be flying out from the east coast.. I don't want to go unless I would prefer to go to Irvine over USC but haven't been able to decide yet...

USC vs Irvine? Opinions?

hey guys, after you accepted the offer did you get a confirmation e-mail or anything?

Probably over 9000.

Do you even lift?

I take a multi and lift heavy brah. Good luck with your medical school goals in 2013!

I don't know buddy but the surrounding area of USC compared to UCI are like night and day. LA is a big city and Irvine is a suburb. If you know what kind of location you want to live in, then decide that way, but if you're up for either or then I'd recommend going to your UCI interview.

If you want to leave campus at night without getting shot I'd recommend Irvine.

Haha 👍

I had a friend who drove a 93 Honda while going here. She got her car stolen 3 times and her bike (purchased after getting her car stolen so many times, lol) stolen once. With that said, that doesn't deter me from wanting to go here. I love LA and all it has to offer 🙂 But truth be told I'd probably get a place out in Pasadena to commute. The alumni network here is HUGE

Yeah didn't some Asian couple get murdered outside their apartment during a car jacking a few months ago? It's definitely on my must commute list of schools, with that said I'd still love to attend haha just gotta live far.

Interesting that appears a bunch of people with high scores got rejected but lower scores got in.

Yeah, that was pretty scary. DO NOT live on the health sciences campus. It was great for like a semester while I was getting into the hardcore studying mode and then it was just depressing. I suggest South Pasadena area. There are really nice (but expensive) apartments that friends of mine lived in. PM me if you are curious about the area.

It's not all that interesting. Scores a part of the review of an application. As to how big of a part, someone with more experience should answer. I do know however that the written materials are highly valued in the application process here. Also, just like every school, they have a particular mission and values that they emphasize. Scores do not convey how well you match within the culture of a school.

What are you the propaganda minister?

well there is no real good reason to go to UCI over USC other than the fact that USC is in the crappy part of the city as mentioned, you got gangbangers not too far. But despite that you cannot really argue for UCI because Irvine, there is really nothing there. You got to go to LA or some other place in the OC to have a good time.

First interview and, subsequently, first acceptance. Interviewed 9/25 and am feeling extremely grateful for the opportunity.

Congratulations! I actually declined my UCI interview last year. Here was my rationale:

- As a young person, LA >> Irvine. Yes, Irvine is clean, safe, and beautiful, but it offers relatively little in the areas of culture, art, eats, and entertainment.
- Better research & clinical training. USC + LAC + Keck + CHLA + Norris >> UCI MC / Douglas.
- Superb Step 1 scores and match results.
- Alumni network, reputation, student resources, and sports are among the best.
- Recommendations from my friends at both UCI and USC.

Cancel your flight and save your money. You will need it to pay for tuition here  UCI will definitely be cheaper for most people, but you will probably get greater returns on your investment at Keck. Fight on!

They don't require a deposit this year to reserve your spot in the class.

I'll second this - save your money.

Also, there is an exaggeration here on the lack of safety at USC's HSC. The posts make it seem like there are cholos out walking through and around campus gangbanging, which is ridiculous. It's Los Angeles (the city has a deserved reputation) but I haven't heard a single person at our school talk about safety issues, even at night.

I am MUCH more scared for my wife who is an osteopathic medical student at Western U in Pomona. Comparatively, that school is significantly more dangerous for its students than USC's HSC.

Congrats to all of you that were accepted this week, I hope that you will consider the school. I also hope that those of you on the waitlist will wait it out, it'll be worth it in the end when you're accepted.

I'm OOS so tuition between the 2 is still fairly comparable. Are the 2 schools' match lists out?

Also for those that were accepted (and potentially even those who weren't)... https://keck-medadmit.usc.edu/Applicant/Orientation/Default.aspx. This link was posted as our default status page login sometime yesterday before it got pulled down like 10 minutes later but I'd saved the URL which still takes me there. Keck probably realized their mistake in giving us the 2016 class orientation page. But dude I poured over all those documents soaking it all in so if you want a sample of what may be to come.. =]

I give you....*drum-roll*......the Keck Class of 2012 match list! :claps:

According to the vice dean:
~76% matched their first choice residency program
~88% matched their top specialty interest
~70% remaining in CA

Top institutions matched: USC, UCLA, Kaiser-LA, U. Michigan, UCSF, UCI.

Selected Specialties:
Orthopaedic Surgery (10)
General Surgery (15)
Dermatology (6)
Radiology (7)
Anesthesiology (5)
Emergency Medicine (14)
