been complete since end of August, and no word yet...I'm OOS...seems to me like others are in similar situations, does Keck do silent rejections?

same. there have been many a pre-interview rejection on this thread thus far. so, my guess/hope is that if no rejection now, maybe its really "silent hold" that will result in an interview or rejection later on.

Does anyone know if they'd reconsider their pre-interview rejection if I send a letter to the Dean?

At this point, what do you have to lose? It might still be a complete waste of time but, hey, why not?

🙂 Glad I could be of amusement. Saw it work at another school so I figured I'd ask if anyone had an idea.

Ahh. You know what? I read that as you feeling like a special snowflake and thinking the dean would actually care about your letter. But now I remember that UCSF has an "appeal" process which is basically the same thing you'd be doing. However, since this school either emails or tells students who send updates/LOI's that they don't care, it doesn't seem like they'd take too kindly to an appeal. But like MA said, you've really got nothing to lose at this point. 👍

If the cycle has taught me anything, it's that none of us are "unique snowflakes". I think I'll go for it and update everyone on what happens. I think we already know the answer though.

Good luck bro! As for me? I've gotten complete silence. I still think USC is mad at me for talking about the shooting in this thread 🙁 They're on to me and I don't like it one bit :meanie:

Wrote up a quick email and just sent it over. Changed it from a "reconsider me!" to a "please tell me how I can improve my application next cycle" type of letter. I think there should be a better response to this one.

Good luck on your application. I think one other thing I have learned is that whatever happens will happen -- c'est la vie. They have thousands of applicants to look over-- any one post here likely has no consequence to your admission decision.

Just keep it chill and try to make it through senior year without screwing up too badly and we should all be good.

Does anyone know if Keck also sends a snail mail acceptance packet, or is it purely through email?

Wait, does Keck send out rejections/acceptances at the same time for the same block of people? For example, it appears that some people who interviewed the week of october 23/24 already got an answer (based on SDN comments)... does EVERYONE from that block (all 14 people interviewed same day) get a decision at the same time, or only a few people?

Longtime lurker. Accepted last week for the Class of 2017!! Couldn't be more excited! Interviewed 10/30. Best of luck to everyone, and perhaps I'll see a few of you in a few months!

No, it doesn't seem so -- I interviewed 10/17 and some people who interviewed on that day posted on here that they were accepted at the end of October, but I just got my acceptance this week!

complete early september with all letter in by late september and still nothing!!!

mind sharing stats and undergrad school?

For those who had morning interviews, what time did the day end for you?

Also, I'm staying with a friend at the undergrad campus the night before. Is there a convenient way to get from there to the Health Sciences Campus the next morning? 🙂

There should be a shuttle that goes between campuses even that early. If not, the only other way is to drive.

http://transportation.usc.edu/transit/routes.aspx then scroll down to "intercampus UPC to HSC." It's free and almost always on time, and takes 15-30 min depending on if it stops at Union Station first or not. I would recommend it over driving if you're staying very close to the main campus.

nabilersmail, i hope you get invited man, i looked at your stats and we have pretty similar ones, although ur ECs seem a lot better than mine. how do you think you did on the secondary?

Meh I don't think my ec's are that great, aside from the hospital volunteering, everything was done in 1 year. Also my underserved teaching/tutoring were only 30-40 hour projects.

For the secondary, it was alright. I tried to be a bit creative for some of the prompts but ya never know. Unfortunately, I heard my P.I. doesn't get along as well with the dean of admissions or something along those lines. Not sure, she did call him though and told him my LOR from him wasn't signed but that its okay so long as he confirmed he actually wrote it.

I was also not complete until september 23rdish

have you been invited for an interview?

Thanks for the good wishes :]

hmm i hope your PIs relationship with the dean doesn't hurt your chances, i don't think it will, i doubt they will dislike you just cause of ur PI.

and yes, i interviewed at usc last week, i absolutely loved the place, would be so down to go there. ironically i just graduated from UCLA haha

One of my LOR writers also fell out of favor with the dean of admissions at the med school at which I'm an undergrad right now. I haven't gotten an II from them, while almost all of my other friends who are undergrads at the same school have gotten II's. I was complete within a week of when they first started sending out secondaries and have competitive stats. So it looks like if one of your LOR writers is viewed unfavorably by the school, it might have an impact on your chances of admission.

Because you and your friends have identical stats, ECs, and essays, right brah? :meanie:

Look, I'm not trying to make excuses. Of course I may not have gotten an II because my app is simply not as competitive. I'm just saying my LOR writer explicitly told me that I would likely not be selected for admission because of his/her relationship with the dean. So it's likely that it might be a reason I haven't been considered for an interview, although I may not have gotten one even if I had picked a different LOR writer. 🙂

Edit: I can see how I might have come off as entitled. I didn't mean to. Point is, it sucks getting shafted by your own school.

That's the hazard of applying to the med school of your undergrad...they know EXACTLY who your letters came from. The relationship of the people involved could have an impact, but they will also be able to tell a generic letter from a personal letter based on the professor.

Keck doesn't require biochemistry anymore, huh? (I've seen it in lists of school that require it but on the requirements part of the site, biochem isn't listed)

My understanding is that they don't require biochem but do require molecular biology.

anyone else complete since july but still haven't heard anything? I'm glad I wasn't rejected but its been such a long time...
