Hello! Is anyone planning on doing the HTE program next year? I was recently accepted and I'm super excited, but kinda worried about how it will affect med school studies. Any thoughts?

There are a lot of informational videos on this program if you do a google search and filter for videos, and the website tells you about the curriculum and additional classes. When did you hear back and interview, mind my asking?

awesome thanks! i did read through everything on their website but hadn't thought to search for videos!

i interviewed 10/24 and heard back from keck on 11/15, but didn't hear back from HTE until this past friday 3/1.

I'm a MS2 and I know the HTE kids in my year. It doesn't seem to take much time from their studies. When everyone else goes to the hospital to interview patients once a week, HTE meets with a team of engineers and... solve problems together or something. I don't know. There seems to be a lot of bow ties involved.

There's a required research project at Keck for everyone, and HTE kids have stuff lined up for them to do pretty good engineering-type projects. The kids in HTE my year definitely are not struggling academically, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Accepted 🙂. Just got the email from Dr. Arias. Interviewed 2/13

Congrats! I was just about to say I haven't seen any acceptances this week.

I interviewed on 2/20, would it be pointless to hold my breath for good news this week? I know early on people were getting in 2 weeks after their interview, it seems like its slowed down this late in the cycle.

i have no idea... but Dr. Arias did say that they only meet on Mondays, so maybe they've emailed everybody they discussed this past Monday?
purely speculation.

Congrats on your acceptance! I also interviewed around that time but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone else heard back or not heard back?

Waitlisted. Heard tonight, interviewed 2/15.

Any tips? I want to matriculate here more than I've wanted anything.

Late to check my email but also accepted today. Interviewed 2/20. The committee probably hasn't gotten to everyone yet. Good luck !

Congrats to all the acceptances.

I interviewed mid February too. Interesting the order they're doing this. I suspect they like to decide on the ballers first, then save the mediocre ones like myself for later.

also got waitlisted today, interviewed 2/15 (the alternate list is the same as the wait list, right?), pretty devastated. My top choice

how often do 1st year students interact with 2nd years @ keck? i know it varies by school - so i'm just wondering

You are assigned a 2nd year "big sib" at the beginning of the year. They are there to show you the ropes and make you feel welcomed. 2nd years also serve as tutors / TAs throughout the year, for each class; they teach review sections once a week, on average. Tutors are selected based on academic merit + teaching experience, and are generally quite awesome. Finally, you will no doubt be working with 2nd years in whatever student organizations you decide to participate in. In other words: you will see plenty of them.

welcome to the club. are you guys planning on actually waiting till May 15 to send a letter? Ever since my waitlist email back in December I've been wanting to write something, but haven't yet. I wanna go here so frickin bad...

I interviewed before 2/20 and have not heard back.

My theory is that they sent out decisions for all of the people whose interviewers gave similar feedback (ie both said accept or both said wait list). Because I think my faculty interview went much better than my student interview and maybe they are taking additional time to decide which interview weighs more.

Any thoughts?

It's definitely possible. I would also add that they consider the application as a whole, not just interviews. A student during my interview told me the interviews are more like a sanity check you have to pass, so your performance may have less impact than you think.

I actually wrote a letter and sent it like 5 days ago. The response I received was pretty much along the lines of "Thanks but no thanks. We aren't accepting anything until May 15th." its going to be a long, agonizing wait

waitlisted. interviewed 2/22, IS... want to go here soooo badly!

holy crap you got a response in less than 2 weeks? i'm soooo nervous nowwwwwwwww ahhhhhhhhhh
im hoping hearing back that quickly is good news, but so far i'm only on the wait list/alternate list... just want to get an acceptance already *sigh*

but congrats to all those folks who have gotten accepted - hopefully u got into other awesome schools so those of us on the waitlist can get in 😉

I am not so sure that I would pass a sanity check after voluntarily choosing to go through this whole application process.😉

Hope we all hear some good news next week. It's coming up on week number 4 and I have the feeling it's going to be the waitlist...

Dear USC,
My birthday is tomorrow. It will be exactly two weeks since I interviewed. You have a chance to give me the greatest birthday gift of my life.

Love,

did you also interview on 02/13? i also havent heard anything from dr. arias... maybe we were put on hold .. to compare with more applicants that subsequently interviewed.

Guys, the early ones (for whatever reason) hear back around 2 weeks after their interview. Most hear back 4 weeks after, some take as long as 6 weeks. My acceptance came 4 weeks exactly (I think) after my interview date. Patience young padawans, patience 👍

Wow, forgot I had an account on this site, it's been a long time haha. Anyways, I was accepted back in November and Keck remains as one of my top choices! I'm really hoping for a 2nd look weekend, but it looks like that might not happen this year?

Yeah I haven't heard anything from the office of admissions about a 2nd look weekend...I wonder what's going on?

I remember getting the impression at my interview way back in September that there wouldn't be a 2nd look weekend. I think it's a shame 🙁 Is there any other opportunity for us to visit/meet our future classmates? Somebody's got to get that facebook group started 😀

Wish there was a second look. One student from keck told me he met someone who became his roommate during second look. I though the admin office usually makes and manages the Facebook group, right? But someone should make it in the meantime and we can all migrate to another if we have to! 😀

+1 about the fb page!

On a completely different subject, did you guys get an interest survey for the accelerated MD/MPH program? Is anyone thinking of doing it? Problem is that the program will start in June so those of us holding on to waitlist spots will have to give them up much earlier than expected.

Wait listed! Interviewed mid feb.
Oh boy, still no news for me.. I'm sorry about your waitlist, it's late in the season and competition is much greater for those of us waiting. USC is an amazing school so if you really want to go, they accept letters after May 15. They also take a decent number from the waitlist

Thanks. I wasn't surprised as my GPA is on the lower end. Hopefully there'll be lots of students choosing other schools from now till August. Good luck to you too.

I got it and I'm in a similar situation (i.e. waiting on waitlists)... but I'll cross that bridge if they actually decide to follow through with it.

I called the office to ask about it since I'd have to move travel plans if I was to start in June. They are supposed to make an announcement about it by the end of the month.

Hahaha, haven't there been numerous posts since October about making a FB group? I think we're all a little wary about being the one who starts the group because it'll link us to our SDN account immediately 😉 . Well, at least I am. 😳

Did you find out about the wait list today (March 14th)? We haven't heard anyone post about acceptances this week yet.

Yeah, the 14th. They may be getting more conservative with their acceptances, who knows.

Does anyone know when waitlist movement starts? Is it only AFTER May 15th?
Dr. Arias asked prior to the interview that folks added to the waitlist not write to say that you want to remain on the waitlist until after May 15 (and I think I saw in a thread earlier that someone tried to send a letter and she told them to send it later). Was your email notification sent this morning? When was your interview?

I am aware of that part, I definitely am not going to send anything in prior to May 15th... but the email notification I got yesterday said "You have been placed on our alternate list, from which offers will be extended during the summer".... I was wondering does that mean only after May 15th will the waitlisted people be hearing back?

I interviewed in February.

Yeah - I guess I was just assuming that if they didn't want us to send letters they probably wouldn't start taking people off. That is just my assumption, though, so I could be wrong. There do seem to be a lot of people waitlisted. . . there has to be a fair amount of movement since they accept over 1/2 of those that they interview.

I interviewed 2/22, and am still waiting. I didn't expect to hear back before 3 weeks, but waiting is still pretty agonizing.

So I did some reading of last year's Keck forum, and apparently waitlist movement doesn't begin until June, and Dr. Arias actually calls you if you're accepted off of the waitlist... and some people were accepted off the waitlist a week before school... FML

Hopefully you guys hear god news in ample time to act if this is your top choice 🙂

Has any accepted student received a financial aid award? Any idea when we can expect one? Thanks a lot

Good luck to everyone else

Just because they accepted over half that interview in the past doesn't mean the same for the present year. I imagine each year it gets more competitive and more people apply and they try to interview more people so they can be even more selective.

I haven't heard anything about financial aid yet other than the email they sent out to log-in to their system and submit information (tax returns, etc.)

Do you mean a merit scholarship? I talked to them and they said for those you usually get them very soon after accepted. Sadly I did not hahahah.

Just received the invitation for second look day! It looks like they are having one after all. It's on April 19th.
