II on 8/22. Pretty excited to check out the campus and maybe be close to family. OOS, transmitted end of June

Looks like I've missed this boat again... Well too bad.

Sent via my crappy phone.

Mee too. UT Sanantonio might not like non-traditional and old student as most people think. Still hope for the next round of II

Got an invitation today! The earliest date I could pick was 10/15. Good luck to everyone, hope to see a few of you there.

Just received interview invite! ~3.8 overall & science GPA, 34O, IS
Anyone else interviewing Oct 15th? I'm so excited! 😀

Edit: See you there, BlueLabel!

Oh no!! half of the interview spots are gone!!!! Panic panic panic!!!

Ahhh... Then they will not like me. Congrats to the interviewees to be. And good luck to you guys.
The weird thing about this process is that I received several II and each time with the first batch. So how can you be very competitive for some schools and not worthy of consideration by others. This is truly a mystery.

I have wondered about this myself. It's really mindboggling. I hope there is a method to the madness, because if this process really is just a giant crapshoot, I'm going to be pretty unhappy.

BabyClutch: I'll be the really really good-looking guy in the grey suit.

Public service announcement: to anyone else who got two different emails saying you have been invited to interview, I just called the office and they said they had a small glitch that caused duplicate emails to be sent. As long as you log on to the system and pick your date, you are okay.

Interview invite!!! Finally! The whole time I've been wondering if my application got lost somewhere when everyone but me got an invite.

Congrats on everyone who got invites! When were you guys complete (i.e. TMDSAS submitted and all letters received)?

I was complete July 11, a long time ago. That's why I thought I was screened out when people complete after me got invites.

Just got the II! Picked 10/22. Pumped!!

I was transmitted and complete on 7/24. Got their application received email on 8/8.

The interview invite selection process is the crap-shootiest of all the crapshoot components of this cycle.

I didn't get II's to half the Texas schools (not just UTSW/Baylor... UTMB and A&M didn't interview me either) but I got one at a USNews "top 5" school. Makes no sense.

You got into a top 5? Are you OOS?

Nope, rejected. But I did get an interview. I go to UTHSCSA, which is why I'm interested in this thread. I was just making a point about how random it is that I didn't get interviews from half the TX schools (and I'm in-state), but somehow ended up getting invited to a school that has the luxury of being much more exclusive (a "top 5"). I had an above-average MCAT, but a below-average GPA. Go figure.

My advice would be to not set all your hopes and dreams on getting into one particular school. But if you prepared right and applied right, the law of averages should hopefully work out in your favor and you'll get in somewhere. You may even get into multiple schools, but never ever be dead-set on any single school.

It was good to see all the interviewees yesterday! Hope ya'll got a feel for how special UTHSCSA is as a school and San Antonio is as a city.

Does San Antonio send an under review or confirmation email like most schools? If so, how long after you were transmitted did you get one?

Had anyone gotten a November invite? It has been quiet here since the last ii batch.

What are your stats if you don't mind? I got the application confirmation email on the 8th as we'll and still no invite 🙁 .

I was there this past Monday and absolutely loved it. Everyone was out of their way friendly and the school sounds amazing. Really want to go here!!!:xf:

well hello there, Doc Barbie. I also do cardiovascular research in Dallas. Would love to compare notes sometime.

~Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

I actually work for Baylor and had to sign many CDA forms. I don't think I can share notes, but maybe if we have any of the same interviews we can discuss some of the upcoming advances in the cardiology field.

Do you guys think --current UTHSCSA student feedback very appreciated---- that a doctor LOR would help any? if so, I have a DO LOR so far and an MD is in the process of writing one...should I send both, wait for MD, send DO now? dunno, maybe DO is not taken much into consideration since this is an MD school.

BTW, if you ask me, a physician is a physician regardless of letters, but you never know with ADCOMS.

Input appreciated!

I had a quick question for those of you that have already gotten interview invites already. Did you guys get an email, or did you have to log onto the UTSA system or something like that? Thanks for the help🙂

There's a UTSA system? And it's affiliated with UTHSCSA?

oh, I don't know lol. That's why I was asking because I was curious if it was like the Texas Tech system

You get an email with a link to sign into the system and select your interview date. Once you do you can access more information about the interview day.

Hey guys,

sorry I'm late, hope I can still join the party.

Just got my MCAT score back on Aug. 28, released it a few days ago. Health professions packet went out a few days ago as well through VE.

These were the only two things my app was missing. I submitted my primary and secondaries for all Texas schools back on june 20th.

I never got a confirmation email from UTHSCSA, I got one from Texas Tech-El Paso, UTSW and UT-Houston. Do you guys think I never received one because my MCAT wasn't in yet?

Just wondering and thought to ask you guys before calling/emailing the admissions office.

Thanks and best of luck to all of you!!!

Just got an interview invite. All Mondays in November were available!

I'll be there 11/12!

My stats: cGPA 3.8 sGPA 3.66 MCAT 31P. Transmitted around the beginning of August.

My first interview invite and one of my top choices!!!

Your hypothesis strikes me as plausible, but I dunno if anyone on here has enough of a pulse on the situation to guide you assuringly. I know I don't. Personally, I'd probably give the admissions office a jingle--what do you have to lose?!

Did you get a confirmation email from UTHSCSA prior to the interview invite? Just wondering since I never got one.

Congrats again, please report back to us and let us know how it goes.

You're right.

Hell, I live in San Antonio, I'm gonna march my behind down there and DEMAND to speak to Dr. Jones and be TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

haha nah, I'll call them next week.

Sinuous, sorry for the nosy-ness, but just out of curiosity, where have you interviewed thus far and how are your numbers?

So should I crumble my hopes of getting an II and throw it to the farthest trash can in sight since I transmitted on 7/12, received confirmation on 7/30, and still have not been invited?

Don't worry I was transmitted 7/11 and haven't heard anything yet either. And I am from San Antonio even!

I have my first interview (at UTHSCSA!) this upcoming Monday and another penciled in for next month, but it's out-of-state. My stats are nothing flashy, ~3.4/~34, so I'd be just tickled if I got in somewhere.

San Antonio is a great town. I lived their briefly as a young'n and have gone back many times over the years to visit. Nothing but happy memories of sunlight, heat, swimming pools, and Tex-Mex. Hopefully I can add "stupendously good med school interview" to that list.

There seems to be not much rhyme or reason to how these schools make their decisions to interview, so keep the faith, mang. And bonne chance! I'm sure you're a fine candidate.

Awesome MCAT score, I wish you the best at both this interview and the out-of-state one. You sound like you'll interview strongly.

As a reciprocal courtesy, I'm sitting at a 3.6 GPA; 30 MCAT. I'm just your run of the mill, average applicant...So definitely hoping to get in anywhere.

Does anyone know if there is a social event the night before the interview? I could have sworn I got an email about it, but now I can't find it anywhere. Thank you!

I believe it is after. This is what was linked to in the invitation email:

http://som.uthscsa.edu/Admissions/interview/schedule.asp

The school has a standing reservation at a nearby club (The Flying Saucer) every Sunday night, and at least 5 students from each class are asked to be there to socialize with the next day's interviewees.

It's organized by the recruitment committee. You should receive info about it, but email Dr Jones if you haven't.

The informal mixer after your interviews is just some cookies/drinks in the foyer outside the lecture halls.

Why no love UT-San Antonio Med School, why? I like you....😍 My love for you will not falter no matter how many times you give others interview invites but continue to give me a cold shoulder....

hahahahah jk I straight up want to interview at this school, but I keep getting passed up for an interview. 🙁

The school is bitchin. I suspect the two bros who led my group's tour were actually comedians, because they made some quality jests. The first-year students I spoke to seemed at peace with the new curriculum, and the faculty seemed consummate professionals. I was pleasantly surprised by the school's digs (soul talk for "facilities")--something I read on here led me to believe they aren't impressive, but their aesthetic and olfactory value are formidable.

My interviews were two one-on-one sessions with members of the faculty, each lasting ~30 minutes. 'Twas very conversational, at least in my case, and nothing irregular was sprung on me. The fact that it was so flowingly conversational...I dunno if it's a good or bad thing. I suppose it's good in that there weren't any awkward pauses or pained looks of stupefaction on my face, and that they genuinely seemed to enjoy the conversation. The potential downside is they decided early they had had enough of my blustering and were content to play along--I mean, who doesn't enjoy conversing with a doofus?

Dr. Jones was also animated about the school's fresh deal with the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) which involves some new digs (see above) on UTHSCSA's campus. He also broached the topic of probation (I'm sure he's sick to death of it by meow) and indicated that the school had received very positive feedback in respect to compliance and that it's possible they'd be off probation by October or thereabouts. It struck everyone as strange that a school in the UT system would suffer that, but from what I gathered it involved noncompliance with the medical school's oversight of the graduate biomedical school's programs over the course of the last five odd years. This school is legit, don't worry your pretty little head about their future and what it means to you. If you get in, you'll have ample opportunity to blaze your trail.

p.s. If I performed admirably for my interviews, just remember that I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express that night.
