For the coursework..Is everyone just picking the pre requisite courses or also picking other courses that fulfill requirements? I have gotten AP credits for Biology so should I pick that or higher science course to fulfill those credits..Let me know how everyone went about doing it..

You are only supposed to select classes that fulfill the requirement. If AP credits count at Vermont then select that one. You won't get extra points for including higher level classes, they will still look at your classes to see what other science you took.

Precisely. 👍

Status Update:

Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

Interviews are held on most Tuesdays and Thursdays between mid-September and mid-April. You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Vermont and your patience with the admissions process.

Does anyone else see this on their "Online Applicant Center" page?

I think this is what they called 'pooled' last year.

Hey for those of you who got updates on your status page about either being complete or pooled -- when were you complete/did it take a while to be complete? Just curious

I haven't been keeping too close of an eye, but I submitted the secondary 7/27. So my turnaround was less than a week.

"We have received all application materials that you have submitted. Your application is under preliminary review. This review of your file may take 6-8 weeks.

Once the review of your file is complete your status will be updated.

Please continue to check your status periodically through the Online Applicant Center. "

Damn i wasn't chosen 🙁

I was also complete on 7/28

hey does anyone know how strict they are on the letter of recommendation requirements?

I am a non-traditional that did a post-bac and I can't imagine getting a non-science letter of recommendation from undergrad, but i want to substitute a work one.

Send an email to [email protected].

I received a response from [email protected] she put a non-traditional letter waver in my file. With a waver I could submit up to 4 letters of my choice. Like you, I have two letters from science professors that I took in the past year. I was asking for a waver for the non-science letter. I also wanted to substitute a work related letter.

Good luck. 🙂

How long did it take for them to respond? I sent an email with my application on 7-31 and haven't gotten a response yet.

Edit: Just got a response and she said they only grant waiver to those who have been out of school for 4-5 years. Really? dsoz, you said you took classes this past year. Were those post-bac classes?

Does this mean we have a high chance of getting interviewed? Clotbuster up there got an interview right away? So I wonder...

I know for other schools that do pooling all applicants that are interviewed go into the small pool first and then are selected to interview from there so I'd imagine that Vermont does theirs the same way.

I am an old-timer non-traditional. Just to give you a clue, my undergraduate degree is almost 20 years old. I have a Master's in Education and have been a high school science teacher for eighteen years.

Because I decided to return to my dream of attending medical school, I started taking classes at colleges around my area. Intro to immunology at a CC in spring 2011, biochemistry at a university summer 2011, and A&P at a CC all year 2011-2. I was able to score two letters from the A&P class (lecture professor and lab professor).

I just hope my grey hair does not scare off any of my classmates. I don't need bifocals, dentures, a cane or a hearing aid (yet).

That is why I got a letter waver. 🙂

Well your experience trumps mine and puts things into perspective. I wish you the best of luck. I think your dream will come to fruition.

I was pooled as well. Weee. CA resident, so I hope if they give me an interview others around the area do so as well.

I submitted on 7/31 and still have:

Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience!

Does anyone else still have this status??

this is indeed the 'pool.' Last i knew, about 3,000 applicants get this status during the cycle. so the odds of being selected out of the pool are not excellent, but you have cleared a hurdle and most people who interview have this status at some point. if you have this status, you are in good shape.

this is not to say that the '6-8 week' crowd are out of luck, plenty of them eventually graduate to the 'pool' as well.

napkin math tells me that you would probably not be the oldest here, although you would be older than anyone in my class... good luck! UVM is certainly friendly to the older set.

You still have a shot. That is why you are small pooled.

You need to make sure you send letters of interest or a phone call every 3-4 weeks till you are interviewed. You need to continue to do this after your interview, as well. UVM loves attention, and everything you do is put in your file.

Is a letter of interest mailed or emailed? "Hey just so you know I really wanna go to this school because of x y z"

Interview Invite! So excited to see Burlington again! Trying to figure out the logistics of staying on the east coast vs flying in back to back weeks...

Pooled on 8/3.

How early should we send letters of interest? The balance between sending it before a rejection comes and not sending it too early and looking desperate...😱

I do not believe UVM takes the view as "you are being desperate" by sending them letters of interest or phone calls. However, the Adcoms may get upset if you send them a letter or call them every week. It is best to give them 3-4 weeks between contacts.

UVM loves the electronic age. I would send them an e-mail. Also, I would not make it that simple. Do some research on the school, Vermont, Burlington, and Fletcher Allen. Be consistent with your reasoning between letters or phone calls. It is ok if they say the same overarching message.

Interview Invite! Sept 6

Congrats on the interview! I interviewed in Sept, and I heard by the end of October (10/21). Do not feel bad if you are placed on the waitlist. UVM waitlists nearly everyone (if not everyone). I was waitlisted for ~1 hour.

How early can we send these? If we're not even pooled yet would it be a good idea?

Yeah I got my secondary in there at the very end of July, so I'm not even "Complete" with them yet (if they send an email, that is). I would expect to get pooled since I'm over a standard of deviation above them stat-wise. Should I make sure to send a letter already to make sure they know I'm interested and they're not 'just a safety'?

I was small pooled on 8/6. Too early to send a LOI? Or if I call them what do I ask them? Do i just ask them questions like "when should I be hearing?" or ask them what "pooled means more indepthly"?

First time applicant so I'm a little new
