does anyone know around how many people UVM interview every cycle?

Most recent data for UVM

Applied: 5829
Interviewed: 667 (11.4% of applicants)
Matriculated: 109 (16.3% of interviewed)

small pooled this morning...for those of you that were small pooled and got interviews eventually, what was the turnaround?

Hey guys, I'm a first year at UVM and if i recall the info from the 2011-2012 cycle is:

Approx 5400ish applications
601 Interviews
Not sure about acceptance
114 Class Size

I finished the secondary on 8/01 and I'm still incomplete. Anyone else?

I was on 7/31. The application website states 6-8 weeks. It has been less than four weeks. Calm down.

Do any of you know if they offer overnight hosting on behalf of the students? I haven't heard or seen anything about that, but many other schools have offered it. Thank youuuuuu!

Yea, you sign up for it in the email they send you, or off the website.

Whoops yeah it was a Google Doc, forgot I did that.

Better question: If anybody has gotten an interview invitation and heard back about the overnight hosting, how far in advance (relative to your actual interview date) did they let you know they assigned you a student to stay with? Thanks

small pooled today! really really hoping for an interview from here... have heard great things about the school!!!

Small pooled here today too, but I haven't been able to tell, is this a step forward, or a step to the side? Like an "on-hold" type thing? Or a next step kind of thing?

More of a next step. Small pool people can get interview invites.

It's a necessary step for getting an interview, but in no way guarantees one. For what it's worth, I got small pooled last year and didn't hear a peep until my rejection in the spring, but I got small pooled this year and got an invite a couple days later.

Interview Invite! Small pooled 8/14. So pumped!

Interview invite this morning! 😀

I received an interview invitation, applied for the student host the next day, and received a host match three days later, for a late Sept. interview. The match email provides contact information to get in touch with your host to finalize arrangements. This gives about 1 month of advance notice. Hope that helps!

Just a reality check, from years past, most people on the small pool list do not get interviews. An no, you do not have to be on the small pool list to get an interview, they invite without small pool.
I personally think their method is cruel, it builds your hopes up, and then crash

ouch lol

I've been submitted here since 7/31, yet my application is still 'being processed.' I really love Vermont and was hoping I'd get a shot here, but I'm worried they think they're a safety to me. Those who have called, was it worth it? They say it could take 6-8 weeks, so I feel nosey calling earlier...

I submitted the same date and called about a week back just to make sure there was no problem processing my letters or anything. They told me when I called that my app was showing up as completed so everything was fine but I've yet to be marked as complete either.

Why couldn't you just let me hang on to hope for just a little bit longer? 🙁

I think you more or less get an II a couple days after getting small pooled if you're getting one. If not I think it's more of a "hold" status and they may throw you one February+.

Several of us in this thread were small pooled for several weeks before receiving an invite. Thinking the worst after just a few days in the pool would be jumping the gun.

Ah okay, thanks for clarifying.

I'm a student here at UVM once more and I'd like to chime in. Being small pooled is definitely a good thing. When you receive a "small pool" message, it may be a bit deceiving and you may think think it really is a small pool, but the small pool contains lots of students. UVM receives almost 6000 applications, and I would estimate 2000 (maybe a bit more) are small pooled, which is still a pretty big cut. If you are interested, you can read more about how selective UVM is in this article. We've ranked in the top 11 schools in the country for being most selective.

Being small pooled does not mean you are getting put into a "on hold" pile at all. Last year, I was small pooled and received an interview invite in September and many other students are in the same position. While not many students who are small pooled receive interviews, many students who interview were in the small pool.

In general, in medical school admissions, the biggest cut is made from secondary to interviews, so you just have to accept that as a fact: there is nothing cruel about it. I would advise folks to not jump the gun or pass a quick judgment (on any school, not just UVM). It is not even September yet and it is way too early to get worried about not getting an interview invite right now. If it was February/March, I would say differently, but the season has barely begun. I know it is hard to think otherwise because I was in your position, but what helped me get through it is not worrying so much about how schools chose their students, rather, I kept letting the schools that I was interested in know how much I was interested (via phones, emails, letters of interest, etc).

I hope this has helped.

Small pooled yesterday and interview invite today!!! I am so excited!!

Wow a one day turnaround is awesome! Congrats man. When we're you complete and when did you submit?

I submitted 7/30 and forgot to mark when I was complete on my spreadsheet. I think it was only a few days after though.

Just so it's out there, after I noticed my status change yesterday I actually sent them a love-note along with an update on the new activities I'm doing since submitting the AMCAS app. I went all-in and mentioned that I'd be in the area for an interview in October, and that I'd love to be able to visit Vermont at the same time. I received a response from the admissions office this morning saying that they'd received my email, included it in my file, and had passed on a copy of it to the interview coordinator. A little over an hour later I had an interview invite sitting in my inbox. 🙂

Couldn't be more stoked! I have a friend who is a second-year here and she loves it!

That is awesome man, i'm very happy for you. I submitted on 7/31 so I'm hoping to hear something soon 🙂

I'm also a M1 here and I have to agree with DrMarty's assessment. I'd also like to add that it took UVM 3 months to make a decision on my app between interview and acceptance (IS) and I was going CRAZY. Get used to being in limbo this fall, but try not to make yourselves crazy calculating your odds at every school you've applied to. I completely understand that it's stressful and expensive, but this is potentially your last year of relative freedom, so try to enjoy yourselves (I am NOT implying that fun stops in med school, you just have to be a little more judicious with your time :-D)

Good luck!

Interview invite this morning! I had to call to rescheduled, and Mary was fantastic. I submitted on 7/31and first noticed that I was small pooled on 8/24. Out of state.

Not much news here recently.

Small pooled sometime in the past few days, hopefully that means I'll be considered for an interview! Really liking the idea of Burlington.

Submitted 7/31 and was never told I was completed.

I was also small pooled yesterday. I checked Tuesday and there was no change. I did not check yesterday. I looked today and I got the small pool notification. Small steps are still steps in the right direction.

Small pooled today! Or maybe today. It's the first time I've checked it in a while.

Has anyone been able to apply to UVM without a committee letter?

My school doesn't have a committee so I sent them individual letters through AMCAS.

+1

Received an interview invite too, so it's definitely worth it to apply even if your school doesn't offer the committee letter. I don't know how it works with not submitting a committee letter if your school does provide the service though.

Sorry I was complete around 9/2 I think. I stopped checking it super frequently though so it could've been a little earlier.
