Hey guys I have some questions for those that go here/those who have already interviewed.

1) What makes UVM unique? What is it that separates UVM from other top tier institutions? From looking at the curriculum, it doesn't seem vastly different save for rotations after 1.5 years and that public health project.

2) What is UVM most proud of? From the interviews I have been too, schools like to highlight particular things that make them who they are.

These 2 questions might seem a little redudant, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. 😍

UVM prides itself for producing medical students that are some of the best clinicians. The VIC is designed to maximize the amount of clinical exposure. We have a short textbook curriculum to increase the amount of time for rotations. Also, we start interacting with patients early in our curriculum (Doctoring in Vermont, happens March of your first year).

Now, this can create some problems:
1) Less time for Step 1
2) Tons of textbook learning and long days compared to our peers.

To address these problems:
1) Step 1 is an individual achievement. If you are banking on your medical school to teach you everything you need for Step 1 and you remembering it the first go around, I laugh at you.
2) No one likes textbook learning. Why suffer extra months of time grinding through useless crap?

What makes UVM unique? It is something that you have to experience.

for those who have interviewed have most of your statuses chnaged form hope you enjoyed your interview to saying that a decision has been made but don't know the decision?

I interviewed in mid Dec. and my status has not changed to "Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application." Mine still says "...hope you enjoyed your interview...".

Sure did! Was told, "This is normal." Etc etc but no explanation 🙁

Stats a good bit above accepted medians and I really liked UVM. 😳

Waitlist too. Never had any update about them contacting shortly. The previous status was we hope you enjoyed the interview and well review your app soon or something to that effect.

UVM is pretty notorious for waitlisting most people first so try not to panic too much. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back 🙂

Complete 9/26. Heard not a word. Emailed update 1/21. Small pooled 1/23.

Not sure if you're IS or OOS, but all OOS applicants get initially put on the waitlist before being accepted. Someone asked about it on my interview day.

Ive been waitlisted since last year and I was hoping to get off of it
Thats why I was wondering if the committee took any previously waitlisted OOSers for acceptance but from the looks of it they have not this cycle around?

How long do OOS's usually have to wait? Do we have to wait until the next committee meeting?

My status online changed to this. I interviewed in december and sent a LOI. UVM was my top choice.. I don't know if there could have been a mistake with this status.. I thought most applicants were waitlisted post interview.

It just especially sucks because it was POST-interview...and I'm not even sure if i've even read of anyone being rejected post-interview from UVM. I was nervous during my interview and wonder if that could have screwed it up..

You should definitely ask for some feedback from them- it may not get you into UVM this time, but at least will help with any other interviews you have, or with next year. I was waitlisted last time, and had a long chat with Tiffany Delaney, who was pretty helpful.

I'm waitlisted at UVM, but have another acceptance. Since I was waitlisted, I had to wait til the end of the cycle before I could speak to her, but it did help me prep for reapplying, and better identify the strengths and weaknesses in my app.

That's what I'm hoping. From the sounds of things here and at my interview short stints on the waitlist are the norm before seeing an acceptance, so we'll see...

yes, the November pattern had my hopes up for yesterday, but I think we have a large enough sample size here on SDN that if someone had gotten in right away we would have heard about it.

In November a bunch of people got in straight from the "your file has been reviewed" status, without being waitlisted or being waitlisted so briefly they didn't even see it. In October however, a bunch of folks got waitlisted and then got in 3 days later, so maybe this month will be more like that.

I think there is still hope in that situation- if you look at last year's thread, there was waitlist movement through May, maybe even June- I don't know if once your file gets reviewed and you're waitlisted it gets looked at again at each meeting or it goes in either an admit or review-in-may pile- maybe someone else on here has more knowledge about their process. DrMarty?

I heard there's slight movement on the waitlist before may, but not significant (which means what??? p < 0.05?)
I truly loved the school but here's to hoping they will take a look at my file in the weeks/months to come!

Nothing for me. It is a bit strange, I was holding out hope someone would here something within a few days of getting wait listed but I guess it really is time to just continue playing the waiting game. Just hope its not for too many months!
