Been complete since 7/16 and no status change. Beginning to expect the worst.

I've been complete since around 7/13 and haven't had a status change either. Let's just keep our fingers crossed for some good news :xf:

Why would they make you retake a 32? sounds strange.

I thought so too. However she made I very clear my 3.4 was not going to cut it and I needed something to boost myself to get the adcom or subcommittee to approve me. She then said most people in my situation have at least a 35 MCAT to make up for sub par grades. They just made it seem like the SMP I am in was almost worthless to them and the only thing they care about is UG GPA and MCAT score to balance the scale. I mean...wtf... they have their own SMP, I guess they only consider master programs once they are fully completed. I don't know, one minute I am on hold for grades the next I get called up and rejected. Very disappointing.

Seems like a lot of further status people are getting invites. Anyone with the MAY status get one yet? It's weird the wording of each makes it seem like may is better.

Also note the vast majority, if not all, applicants that have received interviews are in state applicants. That may have more to do with it then the May vs Further status.

yeah this is true. We wont really know until OOS starts rolling in.

Yeah, that is disappointing. I have a 32 MCAT...I also decided not risk that score, even though I do think I'm capable of better. I really hope all the other med schools I applied to aren't going to reject me because I don't have a 35+ score to make up for a less than perfect GPA.
But I'm still in UG. I can't believe they didn't want to wait for your SMP grades after obviously liking the rest of your app enough to call you. =/

I would be mad as hell if I spent the time and $$$$$ on a SMP, did well, and then had a school (a mid-tier one, at that) tell me that I should "retake the mcat" with a score of 32 in hand...😡

Screw'em, dude.

Lol, you seem more upset than he is. Don't mean to play the devil's advocate but....

At least they told you exactly what you needed to do to get into their school and gave you a chance to fix it for this application cycle.

A lot of schools would have just rejected you and never told you why let alone give you a chance to address it in the current cycle. It is a small gesture but when schools make you pay $100 and then reject you within a day with no explanation. This almost seems kind.

lol Yea, don't SMP programs cost something along the lines of $30k?
That would be a lot of wasted money if all schools followed VCU's attitude.

True, it's nice that they were honest. But what can be said of a person that is honest about being an overly-picky *******? "Well, at least they're upfront about it!"

I have no bias or personal emotions playing in this situation... I'm not an SMP student...I have a higher GPA and a higher mcat. I just think VCU is blowing smoke if they think they are by default above a "3.4/32" student with SMP redemption (which the phrasing from that guy's quote implied).

well VCU is so big on clinical experience too and other things. They might not have wanted him to know he was not good enough. A lot of people say a higher MCAT can offset a lower gpa significantly.

Rejected today. OOS URM 3.14/3.00/33Q

Your GPA killed you IMO. VCU is clearly more competitive and your out of state. So higher standards are expected for out of state people.

VCU gives about 1800 secondaries and 800 interviews out of those who received secondaries.

my status is still listed as complete.... anybody else in the same boat or have any idea what the delay might be? ive been completed for about 3 weeks i think....

I called them earlier today and was told that my file was still under comprehensive review and that they would let me know as soon as they made a decision... lol.. really hoping for an II from here!

+1...I've been complete for almost 3+ weeks. The wait is unbearable:scared:

Hey hows your cycle going? Haven't seen you much.

Between hospital rotations, labwork, paid work and applications, I'm ****ing dead. So much to do, so little time, barely eat, **** life. No interview invites, school messed up LORs, just overall a horrible, horrible few months since I recieved my MCAT score.

Don't worry dude! It's still early.

Well here's the thing. I have to schedule my interviews around rotations. Let's say I have two in a month. My rotation is 20 days. Making up 16 hours across that is not an easy feat at all, I ****ing died doing 7:30 - 7:30 in the ER on Monday and Tuesday. That was just the ER. I'm going to be in the SICU in November and industrial in December.

But I get your point. It's early....

From what I am seeing, your MCAT, while solid as a whole, is quite unbalanced (an 8 in PS, 14 in VR). That is going to lead to questions. Your low GPA makes things even worse. That is, I suspect, where the problem lies. We absolutely have people in our class with one of those problems (unbalanced MCAT or low GPA), but both is much less common. It's also important to consider the other parts of your application. I recently spoke with Dr. WC about a friend and she said she would give this girl strong consideration for an interview as long as she broke a 24 MCAT. Obviously, stats are not the entire story for MCV. (This is also evidenced by the fact that their average MCAT is ~30.) As a student here, it is clear to me that stats are secondary but they still matter here.

Just got the "further" status, whatever that means.

whats the word on people with this status:

"The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site in order to learn when further action has been taken."

doesn't sound good...

Solid chance for interview 🙂

Toss up between acceptance and waitlist but you are definitely in the ballpark!!!

Rock your interview. I believe in you pal!!!!

read earlier in the thread.

Few people got acceptances in this status. If you rock your interview you will probably get waitlisted.

Many people were rejected through this status.

Still under review since 7/25...hopefully I'll get an II soon.....
Anyone else still under review since July?

got a further status earlier today. excited at first but after reading through this thread its kinda depressing, looks like theres no shot at an early interview or a shot at acceptance. Thought i would fare better, strong ecs, 3.71cgpa, 3.68sgpa 33R IS. hope i get an early interview and rock it. Has anyone with further gotten an II yet?

Thanks! So with regard to the different statuses reflecting likelihood of waitlist or acceptance, is this just based off of the timing of you interview or last year's thread? (i.e. late interview = wait list)

I don't think you read the thread.

lol I would love to be wrong, maybe i read it incorrectly. so i have a decent shot?

Agreed. Some instate applicants with a "further" status have been given invites already.

Yeah. But all instate. So if the op isn't an instate applicant and got a further status then I think he may have to interpret it slightly different.

"Thought i would fare better, strong ecs, 3.71cgpa, 3.68sgpa 33R IS."

Yeah, I was addressing instate applicants specifically for him.

You're definitely going to get into all the VA state schools, relax!!

Got the further status 8/6 and invite 8/9. In-state

Is there anywhere that I can find a schedule or description of the interview day? The time slots are only an hour long, but what about lunch, tours, etc.

Further status 8/8

Interview Invite 8/11

Interview scheduled for 9/10

Instate applicant - <Stats Redacted>

Can anyone PM me their phone number? I'm in state and I've been incomplete for a month after I've submitted their secondary and payment. There's a lot of people who have received interviews who submitted 2 weeks after I did. I think it might be about that time I give them a call to figure out what's going on.

hey all, anyone know if VCU requires you to have taken all the prereqs when you apply? or just by the time you matriculate? I'll give them a call on Monday if no one knows. I'm not gonna tackle this beastly character count until I know that I have a shot. I have yet to take bio, physics, chem, orgo, or math. in addition, i have taken the SATs. will this replace the MCAT they are talking about ? never heard of it

just kidding just missing one semester of math, which i'm taking in the spring

LOL, I was about to double face palm until I saw the last line.

Just got the MAY interview status update. Going from what I've read, this is probably a good thing?

OOS applicant and complete around 08/01, although it's a bit unclear to me since I received like 3 status updates telling me I was complete lol.

Good luck to everyone else!

This was my problem as well. I'm not sure if they're trying to assign me a priority score and it's just not going through, or what exactly. I tried calling on friday, but I kept getting voicemail. Congrats on the good status, btw.

Thank you. I hope they make your status clear soon and you can figure that out!

Submitted! Only wrote about 3500 characters so we'll see how that goes

I called today and, like most schools, VCU just wants you to finish the pre-reqs by the time you matriculate. good luck with your apps, everyone!

After waiting 3 weeks after my letters were sent (and trying not to be annoying), I finally emailed the admissions office about it. Magically, my application was marked as complete four hours later! 🙄

Just got my interview invite! My worries were seriously misplaced haha
