2013-2014 Indiana University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think I submitted my campus preferences but it's hard to tell because nothing about the page seems to change---is it fair to say that my ranking has been saved if they stay over in the right column even once I've logged out and back in? I tried to call the office about this and it really get a straight answer....

I'm wondering the exact same thing. It scares me because mine have been ranked for over 2 months and if I wanted to, I could still change them around. No real submit button.

How many of you come on this forum everyday even though you know not to expect anything worth reading until the 15th or so of each month?
Do we know if they meet towards the beginning of the month like around right now and wait til the 15th to send acceptances out or if they meet at around the 15th and send it out right afterwards?

I know they meet before the 15th but I don't know how far in advanced they meet.

Anyone send in an update? If so, did you email it or mail it in?

Anyone will travel from Toledo to Indianapolis today (Jan 7, Tuesday)?

I have an interview at Indianapolis tomorrow and had planned to take the Greyhound. However, the Greyhound is most probably cancelled today.

Right now I am staying at U Toledo School of Medicine and would like to share the travel expense. Please drop me a message! Thank you so much!

Am I correct that they use a ranking order based on MCAT, GPA...etc to que those next considered for acceptance? Interviewed 10/9 in Muncie and still waiting. 31 Q and a 3.7 GPA (instate). Just curious if anybody with similar stats has been accepted recently. If so, when did you interview? - Thanks!

I interviewed on 10/9 as well. 33MCAT 3.8GPA. I am instate as well. I would just try to relax.

Has anyone who's been accepted yet received the email from Certiphi about the background check?

When did you get accepted, if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone still waiting on an interview invite? I'm a second time applicant and interviewed here last year. I'm IS and my AMCAS was verified 11/22. Still haven't heard anything from IU about an interview though. My undergraduate stats haven't changed and I'm currently in a physiology graduate program. I know they do interviews through February. As I remember, last year they sent me the invite about two weeks before the actual interview date so should I just keep waiting in hopes that I'm in one of the last interview groups?

I'm in the same boat as you, almost exactly.

Might be a repetitive question, but how do I access the IU applicant portal? Can't seem to find the email that I'm pretty sure had the link.

Good Morning, I don't really comment on SDN (lurker:watching:) but I have an interview next week and I am wondering if anyone else is interviewing on the 22nd?

I interviewed back in September and still haven't heard back! Will it most likely be a rejection at this point? Even if it is, I just want to know already! Anyone else in the same boat?

9-4 interview and have heard zip. Wish they would reject me and get it over with already. :/ (Would not likely go to IU over the school I'm accepted at, anyway).

I interviewed the same day and I'm in the same boat . . .

Waiting from 9/4 as well. I've heard nothing for months. Awaiting a rejection. We must really be on the bottom of some list. Feels bad

Accepted! IS
GPA: 3.9
MCAT: 24

Lot's of clinical experience with recommendations from exec positions helped a lot! Good luck everyone!

Looking for some feedback on an issue I'm having with the school. I'll try to be brief.

I got an II in September, scheduled for early November. I was asked to mail in those 3 documents, and I did (all in the same envelope) the same day I got the II. The admissions office sends me an email in December telling me they haven't received 2/3 of the required documents. It's a little frustrating but things get lost sometimes. It happens. I send in the 2 documents the same day they sent that email, back in the first week of December. It has now been 7 weeks since they received them and they still haven't processed them. I'm getting worried because people from my interview date are starting to hear back on final decisions.

Since the school does rolling admissions, I feel like my chances of acceptance are growing slimmer by the day because of a clerical error. Feels bad. At the same time, I don't want to call into the office and make it seem like I'm complaining or desperate. When I called back in December to confirm the problem, the woman said there was nothing they could do to hurry along my application, despite their mistake. Do I have ANY options at this point besides waiting it out? Maybe contact the head of admissions? The dean? I feel like I've been dealt a pretty bad hand here.

That's strange. The two documents missing, is there a way you could send them in again, expedited (Next Day, Two-Day) via FedEx etc.? So, when they get them again they have to add it to your file, which brings your file back up in sight (possibly helping).

I don't know if that would work. It takes them 6-8 weeks to process the documents (according to the application portal), and I don't think it matters how/when they're sent in. There may not be a way to speed this up. I just needed to vent I guess. The thing I'm worried about most is that they might have lost those documents again, but I won't know for another few weeks. I seriously have no idea why it takes so long.

Hey Guys!

I got my acceptance yesterday! Nice looking envelope which was post-marked January 16 so it took 5 days to get here to Miami. I just mailed my acceptance letter and technical standard documents. My stats are as follows:

OOS: Miami, FL
Undergrad GPA: 3.32
sGPA: 3.4
Grad GPA: 3.85, MPH and 3.91 MBA
Science Post-Bac GPA: 3.75
URM, First College Generation
ECCS: Published in the American Hospital Association, Fellow American College of Health Care Administrators, Currently working with the White House and President Obama under the Affordable Care Act.

Hope To See You Guys Who Have Been Accepted In August! To The Rest...Keeping Dreaming and Have Faith!

If I'm competing with that record - I'm screwed . . .

Just received an interview invitation today from IU...I'm OOS so obviously I have travel concerns. Anyway, does anyone know how we're supposed to go about getting this Dean of Students evaluation form signed? I was thinking of seeing my advisor on Friday and asking her what to do. I'd call the admissions office and inquire further, but I'd like to avoid that if possible. I called earlier today after receiving the interview to clarify a few things, and the lady from the admissions office was, for lack of a better word, a bit of a bitch.

Accepted!!! II: 11/13, OOS, GPA: 3.77

Sorry if this is a redundant question, but how does one go about completing campus preferences? I received an e-mail stating that campus preferences can be completed via the applicant portal, but I see nothing of the sort on the applicant portal. Has anyone figured this out?

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with admissions. I just e-mailed my undergrad's dean's office explaining that I'm applying to IUSM and they request a Dean of Student's evaluation form, and asked if I could make an appointment to fill out the form. A representative e-mailed me back and told me I could come during open office hours. I went to the dean's office and they had already printed out the form for me. I showed them my ID, they filled out the form and signed it, and then I signed my name on it in their presence. It's pretty quick and easy 😉

No problem! I also forgot to mention that I attached the form to my original e-mail to the Dean's office, which is why they were able to print it out before I got there 😛

Edited to add: I know this has been asked before, but does anyone know where to get recent match data for IUSM? The lack of match data is kind of concerning to me 😕

Man your not competing with any record, keep in mind im an Older non-traditional student at 27 years of age so I've had more time to do more. Keep your head up and be confident, it has taken me 4 years to get into med school but I never gave up. I kept fighting and now I can officially say Im going to be a doctor. Keep faith!

Is there a confirmation email, portal status update, magic owl that visits you with a sealed envelope, etc. post-interview when your application is finally complete and ready for adcom review?

I received my acceptance letter on tuesday!

Interviewed 11/13
I am very non traditional, so those of you thinking you can't compete, YOU CAN!

undergrad gpa: 3.2, sGPA: 3.0 with an upward trend. My first two years killed me, bad.
grad gpa: 3.7
mcat: 24

Just goes to show you that IU doesn't just look at numbers

Congratulations to all who got accepted!! I found out I was accepted through the campus preference and technical standard emails I got yesterday. But I never got anything through snail mail. So I am wondering are there any important documents in the envelope that I should be aware of? Like documents that I have to complete and mail to the admissions office? Thanks!

Man no important email bro. All it had was a congrats letter and an envelop for u to return with a self written statement either accepting or declining admissions. i think u may wana call the admissions office to see what happened with ur envelop package man. If not don't stress it, just mail a letter accepting admissions to their admissions office in Fesler Hall address.

Man, bro, duuuuuuuude. Check out the killer waves! They're gnarly.

Do you think if I go back and rearrange my campus preferences it will "reset" when I submitted the list? Do you think the system even recorded when I initially made the list? I am overall confused by the fact that you can go in and access/change it whenever.

According to Dr. James Brokaw, Associate Dean for Admissions, the lottery is completed in the early Spring around April 1st. Dr. Brokaw said you may update the list anytime up until the lottery is drawn. However you have ranked the campuses at the time of the lottery will be how they prioritize where to place you.
