2013-2014 University of Arizona - Phoenix Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We will spend this week processing all final supplemental applications (today is the submission deadline) and will wrap up our interview reviews and selections over the next couple of weeks. Fewer than 35 spots remain and more than 700 are still under and/or pending review.

We broke another record of applications received this year. Final figures will be released in February but as it stands, fewer than 10% of applicants are invited to interview. Very difficult decisions ahead of us to identify the final few.

I do have one question though... is the Md/mph program only offered by the Tucson campus? And if so, how receptive is the Phoenix program to allowing students to take a year off to fulfill an mph elsewhere?

Edit: for what it's worth, I'll be applying this upcoming cycle.

Hey Dr. Cunningham,

I asked a question a couple of days ago but I think it got skipped over. Any info would be very appreciated.

Thank you.

Dear Omppu27,

We do offer MD/MPH - see more at phoenixmed.arizona.edu/students/degree-programs

II today! I was complete around 11/31. Unfortunately I've never taken Physiology and since their class starts so early, I don't know if I can take it before I matriculate if I am accepted. Any advice on what to do guys?

I ran into the same problem last year and ended up taking a physiology class at a local community college. If the CC is on a semester schedule, you should be done sometime in May. Hope that helps!

I'm curious…did they tell you that you were missing a pre-req when they invited you for an interview?

Dr. Cunningham

On the original secondary under the required courses section, if we didn't have a class that explicitly matched those listed as options for the requirements, we had the option of submitting information about a course taken we felt covered the appropriate material. If we have already graduated (with no current plans to take other classes prior to med school) and have been accepted, is it safe to assume the ADCOM considered our prereq coursework sufficient?

Thanks in advance

If the course did not meet the requirement, you would have been notified and a conversation would ensue between you and our staff to get a plan in motion. It is always okay to write/call is to double check.

Excellent, thanks as always for being so accessible and transparent

Has anyone been rejected since Dr. Cunningham announced the number of interviews left (~ 30)? In the middle of studying for finals week, my email is always open with hopes that I will receive one of the coveted interview invite emails! I feel such a connection with this school and its philosophy.

I certainly wouldn't mind leaving cold Buffalo winters for the sunny Arizona weather!!! 🙂

Previously, she said that rejections are sent out daily... I don't know if that is still the case. Time to check my email...

Hi Dr. Cunningham:

Are interview invites still going out daily? Can you comment on our chances if we have been on hold for a few months at this point? Thanks so much

Dr. Cunningham,

I wondering if you could speak to the number of interview spots left? Thank you for your time and assistance throughout this process!

We have just 8 seats remaining to offer and will create a "wait list" of about 10 to have in the event should anyone declines an interview. After today, just one interview day remains (Jan 13) and our past experience is that as the date approaches, applicants withdraw and we have a vacancy. The wait list is a new approach and our attempt to keep our day as full as can be!

Hi Dr. Cunningham:
Thank you for letting us know this information. Will these remaining 8 invites be going out daily this week? Will we be notified by email if we are put on the waitlist for interview? Thanks once again!

Hi Dr Cunningham,

When's the latest we can expect to hear back if we are still under review - pre-II?

Thank you!

Hello Dr. Cunningham,
I just got an email for a wait list to interview on Jan 13. I'm completely ecstatic about this. Does this mean that I am next in line should anyone back down, or that I am in a group of about 10 (with no particular order)?

Wishing for the best!
Thanks

For anyone who did the revisit day, what did you wear? I know I am probably over thinking this as the email said comfortable clothes like a student, but I want to make sure I am not under or over dressed. Did you wear jeans or something more dressy like a skirt or slacks? Thanks in advance!

I wore jeans, flats, a nice shirt and sweater. Just be comfortable and bring a jacket for the lecture hall. 🙂

Is the committee meeting today for the next round of admissions decisions?

Not me, I'm super nervous knowing the exact time window! Maybe it's getting tough to make the acceptances with fewer spots.

I'm hoping I get a call! Good luck everyone!

I'll happily settle for another hold at this point! Yikes...

Just got the email - post interview hold until Jan. 24

I'm not too surprised though, I felt like I bombed a couple MMI stations.

Oh well, good luck everyone!

Hold number...I forgot. I'll take it!! Continued best wishes to everyone!
