2013-2014 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know some people were notified that they are on hold pre interview and I haven't heard anything... Is that a good thing ?

I believe the general estimate is that schools accept double the alloted seats, then accept off the waitlist depending on how many are leftover

I know that the general estimate is that a school accepts twice the alloted seats, but doesn't that estimate include those accepted off the waitlist? Or are waitlist acceptances separate as you've implied?

Wondering the same thing! I've been complete for over two months and have heard absolutely nothing. Wondering if this is better or worse than getting a pre-interview hold 🙁.

don't hold your breath guys, seems davis sends you an invite in two weeks generally, otherwise you're screwed

Not necessarily so. It was 52 days from when I was complete to when I received an interview invitation at Davis.
This process is rather unpredictable!

I submitted my app the first dates possible (both primary and secondary in June). Did not get invited till September (more than 2 months waiting). Interviewed Oct 11th. Accepted Oct 26th. So don't get discouraged just because you are not invited yet 🙂

I was complete via amcas on June 22nd, I received my UC Davis secondary on Jul 30th. Completed my UC Davis secondary Aug 15th, was invited for an interview of Aug 29th. Interviewed Oct 11th...have heard nothing since. Thats my timeline I hope it helps you!

Accepted!! Dr. Sousa called me on Friday and I was speechless! 🙂
Interviewed on 10/11

Good luck everyone!

HIGH FIVE and Congrats. Curious of who you are haha.
And I was speechless/ "hearingless" too... can you please tell me what he said about the email/package Dr. Henderson would send? I completely went blank and didn't get to understand what Dr. Sousa said afterwards...

CONGRATS TOO!

Haha! I remember he said the phone call was an official notification but next week Dr. Henderson will send a more detailed email explaining the acceptance. He said the email will also include some information regarding a program they offer that allows students to spend another day with a faculty member and a current student. I don't remember if he said anything about a package. If he did, I must have blanked out too.

nvm it was me guessing what he said, I remember him saying UCD does everything green so there's no package then.

I know the post-interview Davis waitlist moves a lot. But where they pulled from the INTERVIEW waitlist and then given an interview?

Yes! they were pulled off of the INTERVIEW Waitlist, interviewed and then accepted. It happens, just continue to believe in yourself.

Waitlisted email earlier this morning. Didn't hear back on the 15th as was previously told, so just happy I didn't get rejected. Dying to get into this school!

Congrats! They say like 50 percent of those on the waitlist get acceptances. I have faith in you!! Now I hope I get some sort of email!

Interview on Friday!!! So excited and nervous since it's my first and I really like Davis!

Does anyone know if Davis will add a letter to your application after its already been marked complete?

Congrats!!! That's awesome.

And thanks for the encouragement cooksgenes and milkandcereal!

Also be friendly and constructive during the group discussion. Other people's experiences have been different, but I think the group discussion was one of the deciding factors in my acceptance 🙂

Congrats @cooksgenes and @Galsina!! I interviewed a few weeks ago and haven't received any notification yet, so I am kind of worried. Does anyone happen to know if they usually send rejection e-mails after they notify the applicants they accept?

So anyone else for sure choosing Davis? It was my top top choice so I'm done! Congratulations to all accepted!

My only acceptance at the moment so yea! And I'm pretty excited too, thank you for your MMI prep tips earlier - those were super helpful 😀

Hi everyone! Congrats to all those who have been recently accepted 🙂
My interview is this friday, and I'm a little anxious as it will be my first interview of the season.

Thank you all for the MMI prep tips! I know you can't reveal any details, but I was wondering if you need any background information (like medical related knowledge) and if I should prepare in that sense?

Thanks!! 🙂

I agreed with what Dr. Sousa said: "You all have prepared for this interview your whole lives!"

I'm with ya. Lets hug each other and cry it out.
I'm over analyzing everything and for what? Its not like my analyzing is going to change the fate of the process, but i cant help it. Does anyone here know (maybe a previous student who is now on the admissions committee) what a typical day is like for the admissions people. Do they go through applications one by one, and if they like you call you. Or do they review the entire set 10/11 interviewees, then call the ones they like.? I am hoping for the former because that would mean I am not doomed, if they use the ladder method it means they didnt like me. Stress stress stress.

Buddy, breathe.

You can't change a thing now. You realize you're overanalyzing and being a bit excessive, so contain it. Go for a run, call a friend, watch a funny youtube video- whatever you do, get off sdn. You'll find out when you find out, and no one on sdn can tell you whats happening with your application.

Be patient everyone. I just watched GRAVITY and I feel that our lives as premeds are just like getting stuck in the space... Because of my damn MCAT I was about to give up and thought I had to reapply next year already - long waits and so many rejections although I submitted everything the very first day!

BUT it felt really good when my feet finally touched the ground (just to start crawling again soon, like what that doctor did in GRAVITY), and I am sure you guys will have happy endings too! I mean... we all worked so hard for this, especially you @saltyone ... I remember you're such an incredible applicant and your talent will not stop here!

What do you guys my odds are if I have been waitlisted for an interview?!

It's not over until it's over. Let's be strong. I interviewed the same day too. I didn't think I did awful but now I don't know what to think lol. Good luck! Hopefully we hear soon.

Rejected, finally! Not happy about it, but saw this coming since this is a pre-secondary rejection. Glad they're not doing silent rejections. 🙂 GOOD LUCK to everyone!! This is an amazing school. Congrats to everyone who got in!!

So on my application status page it says I've received an II! Havent got the official email yet though.
