Sorry to hear that! By snail mail? I'm expecting one of these too :/

Has anyone gotten any IIs recently? Getting nervous! I was complete around 9/25 and it's now been a month... =/

Accepted via snail mail on Mon. I'm OOS so it must have taken a week to get to my permanent address.

Interviewed Oct. 2nd.
Stats: MCAT 32, GPA 3.75

I'm elated. I was unbelievably stressed waiting for this decision.

I live in DC so now my parents have to mail it back to the East coast lol.

Good luck to everyone else. I wish you guys the best!!!!!

Did anyone who received an acceptance have a status change on the portal (like an extra tab)?

Nope, I just checked there is no update or change or anything.

who else had student interviews? were they short? Mine was 20 min about me and we chatted for another 20 bout random stuff.

Wouldn't it be nice if the mail came today for the second week of October interviewees? Pleaaaase?

=( I don't understand why there's such a long lag between the last interview group letters and this one. I specifically put down my address in maryland instead of college so it would get there faster. but no dice...

Is the "We have received your application and begun to process it" email a complete email?

OOS applicant here.Submitted August 12th and I haven't heard nada. Any others out there with me? UMD send me some luuuuuuuurve!!

What does that have to do with the school's decision? It's not like the have the spare time to go through SDN, guess my interview date based on my posts/mdapps, and read every single detail of it and match it to my file. If they did this for all their interviewers, It would take them till next year to start sending out decisions.

And I don't like Maryland mainly because of it's grading system (A,B,C,D) since that pits every student against each other. Also, having lived in Baltimore for >17 years, I can tell you with confidence that it's definitely not a good place to live, especially the area the med school is at.

But just cause I don't like doesn't mean it can't be a top choice. As many people have said, the best med school is the cheapest med school.

I'm sorry that you got waitlisted, osprey099, but as a current student at Maryland, just going to jump in here to give my two cents. You really never know if adcoms look through application threads or MD Apps. Sometimes, just Googling someone's SDN handle can turn up identifying information. We have students on our committees so while faculty might not have time to look up someone's activity online, students might for the heck of it. Who knows? I've always thought it's better to err on the side of safety (and anonymity...e.g. there's no one named Tiffany in my class, or any class I think haha).

A lot of people gripe about our grading system, but there's not much difference between A,B,C,D and Honors, High Pass, Pass, Fail - it's really the same system with different terminology. On the contrary, I've never felt "pitted" against my classmates. We share useful links, videos, study guides, etc. all the time. At the end of the day, a 90+ is an A, so another student's performance has no bearing on my grade.

I agree that Baltimore's not the safest city. But I wouldn't say UMB is located in an "especially" bad part of the city. Given that we're literally a few blocks away from the Camden Yards/Inner Harbor (major tourist attractions), police presence is high to keep the people feeling safe and happy. There's definitely some neighborhoods within walking distance that I'd avoid, but I'd argue that UMB is situated in a, relatively, safer part of the city.

Like others have said, happiness > cost. You're gonna be a doctor! You'll be able to pay the loans back in due time. Wishing you the best of the luck for the rest of the app cycle!

Does anyone know if UMD gives out scholarships of any kind?

Full merit scholarship recipients get notified as early as January (or at least that's how it went last year). IS students are also eligible for grants supplied by the State of Maryland...but you won't be able to see that until late Spring when financial aid information is released.

For those of you who have been accepted and are set on attending, I'd suggest checking out the pre-matriculation summer program. I don't think you can apply yet, but you get to take the first few weeks of anatomy in the summer *and* Maryland will pay you a stipend to do so. I think it's a great program for people who are nervous about the workload and/or have been out of school for a while.

Does anyone have "Under Review" for the Interview status? I never received an interview offer am just curious because I was in a foreign country for past weeks

LMBLBM: I have the same combo lock / "under review" on my application. I am hoping it is a fortuitous sign.

Most likely it means absolutely squat. I was complete October 7. I think it just means they are reviewing our file. We shall see!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it used to say "not scheduled?" Mine now says "under review."

I think so.. It is definitely something different from the previous status

I'm gonna be interviewing here in about a week. I just saw the SDN interview feebdack for this school and it indicates we get two 1+ hour interviews 😱. Is this true??

From my experience, pretty much.. When I interviewed mine were just under 1 hour (so I had just enough time to walk to the next one). I even asked when checking in what to do if it ends early. She said it's never really happened. But I thought they were pretty conversational and I had a lot more time to talk to the interviewer about himself and the school, compared to 30 minute interviews where it seemed it was only enough time to talk about a few activities.

I submitted my secondary slightly late and was complete 10/11. I haven't heard anything since the complete email...when should I expect to hear back?

IS, 3.63, 3.66 (s), 35

What does it mean when my status says Under review? Should i expect to hear something soon? thanks

It's an automated status so it might not actually be under review.

To answer you both, the time to hear back can vary. Last year I submitted early august and I got a hold for interview email in November. I never got an interview. This year I submitted at the same time and got an II mid October. Typically, the later it is in the year the more backed up schools get so it takes longer to hear back.

Dr. Foxwell called mid october interviewees this time last year. But I still haven't heard anything from my early october interview. Wonder what the timeline is this year. This is making me anxiousssss.

This is what my interview day was like, but it wasn't stressful or anything. My interviewers were awesome and it was really just a fun conversation.

+1 I interviewed 10/07...I thought I saw someone from my interview day get a decision...weird. Maybe they don't go in order of interview dates?

Yeah I think someone got something for 10/7. I interviewed 10/9 though. It's odd to have a 2+ week silence after that post. Also I think last year, not everyone who interviewed on the same day got their acceptances/other decision at the same time.

What's up with UMD accepting 50% more women than men? I can see that happening if they were trying to balance out the M/F ratio for matriculants, but the past 4 years women have far outnumbered men. C/O 2017 had nearly double the number of women as men.

not kidding but Foxwell is a little sexist. He's really weird if you didn't know that already. I have a very reliable source who told me that he's divorced and single ever since. Dare I say that may be why UMD historically accepted 65% women to 35% men? I'm not gonna speculate

Wish I knew of the huge disparity before I applied. Waste of my time and money.

Or maybe he pushes to accept the most qualified applicants and doesn't take into consideration their sex.

Doubtful, considering all other schools come up with balanced m/f ratios on average.

this information is pretty readily available. So you could look before you applied if it is that big of a concern? But hey, if you get in, lots of choices right?

Also i just looked up a few schools and most of them were closer to 60/40 M/F so not entirely balanced

Well I looked at a bunch of schools and assumed all just strive for 50/50 ratios. I just went down the first 15 in the MSAR and almost all were 50/50. There are some schools with skewed ratios, but if you look at past class profiles you can see it varies. Sometimes it's just chance. With UMD it's 4 consecutive years....kinda sketch. Oh well.

Right, and I just picked a random group of 5 that I applied to and saw they're all a bit skewed male. Just saying even though most may be close to 50/50, there are schools on both sides of the balance.

Yup, and one school preferring guys does not mean it's okay for another school to prefer girls. All should abide by their statements of not discriminating by race, gender, religion etc. Although That statement is overridden by the diversity clause which lets them use race etc for a diverse class. Skewing gender one way or another isn't diversity.

But you see, choosing boys even though the female applicants are more qualified would be discriminating based on sex! There are two ways to look at this.
