Accepted to Duluth on Wednesday April 9th. Interviewed 1-17-14. So excited!
MS1 here. I would say most of our professors are pretty responsive. They respond fairly quickly to questions via email. Some even give out their phone number just in case you have a burning question (seriously).
Making connections with professors/physicians is fairly easy as well. The school has a "Craigslist" type website for research opportunities for medical students and we constantly get emails about shadowing opportunities, etc. The school's alumni foundation just hosted this past week a happy hour for first years where they were able to meet alums from the medical school.
Even though I go to a big university medical school, I still get that smaller community feel. Having all the same classes and smaller group sessions helps with that. We are also a very non-competitive class that shares notes/flash cards/study aides constantly to help each other study.
As for the mentor, we are all assigned a faculty advisor (physician) that is with us until we graduate. We usually meet with them 1:1 and in a small group at least 1-2 times a semester. They can be really helpful when it comes to finding research or shadowing opportunities.
Hope this helps!
Theresa Baultrippe, the Director of Admissions, is coming to my school this Wednesday to give a presentation for MN residents applying this upcoming cycle and she is also setting aside time for some one-on-one appointments with students. I applied this past cycle and am on the wait list, so I was wondering if this would be an appropriate time to seek some feedback on my application/interview?
Haha I was in almost the exact same position last year. Waitlisted, Theresa came to my school to give a presentation, went to go see/talk to her, etc. Last year, their policy was absolutely no feedback on application and interview until you withdraw from the waitlist, and I haven't heard of that changing. You can ask her about what you think your weaknesses were and how to improve your chances, but I highly doubt she will come prepared with feedback for specific applicants.
Average movement according to the waitlist email was 50-75 (TC).
what was your stats?Congrats to everyone who got accepted to the U! I'm an MS1 currently and would love to answer any questions about the school or life as a medical student.
