2013-2014 University of Rochester Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On their website it says they need year of writing intensive courses, so you're probably correct in saying that a non-english course could count. However, as a science major I don't have many courses that I think could fit this criteria... perhaps I can find a gen ed that can. Oh well. Thanks!

Congrats!!!!!!

You're going to want humanities classes under your belt anyhow if you want to go to Rochester; they like humanities-oriented premeds.

Anyone into starting a co-op at Rochester?

It's too bad because if I could start over I'd probably pick a major in the humanities (I'm a senior). But I do have some public health, psych, and social science classes so we'll see. That said, on their website they have a 12-16 he requirement in the humanities. Is this is by matriculation? If so I'd be more than happy to take a couple extra courses (in the event I'm accepted) if the ones I have now doesn't fit the requirement. I also have considerable work with disadvantaged populations so hopefully that helps?

Thanks for all the help, guys. I know this is irrelevant to you guys currently applying but it does mean a lot to me. Thanks again!

Accepted this afternoon! I interviewed last month as well. The holistic nature of the curriculum alone has made this one of my top choices as well.
Good luck to everyone waiting!

II yesterday! I've been complete since the end of August and had pretty much given up on Rochester.

sGPA 3.65/cGPA 3.77/36 MCAT

Earliest available dates are the end of January.

ACCEPTED! This school is it! High chance that I will be matriculating. Still in shock 😍
Congrats on the acceptance! Interviewed 11/8, hoping for some love in the next few months. Like you, a very high chance I'll matriculate if chosen. When did you interview?

I interviewed back in October, so maybe you will hear back early/mid December?

I am living in Arkansas and have an interview in January so I was thinking about staying an extra day and go skiing afterwards. Anybody know of the best mountains to ski near Rochester, or heard if Bristol mountain? Sorry a little off topic but advice would be appreciated

I interviewed 11/15 and I'm dying waiting for my answer because I really want to go here and this is my only II so far! I still have 18 schools to hear from though, but this is def. my top choice!

Bristol mountain is our closest/best mountain in the area. I recommend staying sand going! It opens for this season next week!

I totes have my fingers crossed for you. I interviewed 11/4, and am pretty sure I bombed it. The sting would be lessened if someone who really fit got a stop (and I knew of it).

Interview invite today...complete July 30th AND I'm a reapplicant. I thought I was hallucinating when I saw my inbox! Plus, I had just done my ultra-depressing clickthrough of all remaining applications still "out."

Earliest date was February 3rd. Now to wonder if this is just for the waitlist...

Could any current (or past) Rochester student give a brief description of the medical school library? I don't remember seeing it on my tour...

OMG so many interview invites for people complete late July.

We saw it on my tour. It was somewhere near alumni hall. It seemed pretty standard to me. Maybe a little small. The architecture was nice though.

We saw it on our tour as well. I'm a University of Rochester Undergrad currently, which is literally across the street form the med center. I've been to the medical school library a few times. Most of the viewable areas are study areas with few books. Pretty much all of the books are found in the stacks which run under the hospital/library area. There are also two libraries on the undergraduate campus that you can access for study space/non-medical research.

Did anyone who sent an update/LOI receive an email confirmation that it was received afterwards?

Thank you!! Is it called Miner?

I just withdrew, so here's hoping that my interview slot goes to someone here! (It looks like an awesome place...but not for me for non-academic reasons.) Good luck, everyone!

Update letter/LOI received and I'm praying for an interview here. I think I'd love this school.

did anyone post interviewed/accepted data from uswnr in this thread? i don't see it anywhere

Hi, I'm interviewing here on Monday and I'm flying out of Boston on Sunday...I'm a little worried that my flights might be delayed/maybe cancelled due to the snow we are expecting this weekend. This actually happened to me last weekend too, but it was coming back from an interview so it wasn't so bad. My question is, should I call Rochester and express my concern, or just let it play out and see what happens? thanks!

I have an interview somewhere else for Monday, but am leaving from Boston Sunday and am similarly concerned...what I did was call the school and ask what I should do if my flight is cancelled or I otherwise was unable to make it out of Boston (expressing my hope that this would not happen, of course). They were very nice and told me to leave them a voicemail and email, and that they would be able to reschedule if necessary. So yes, I'd suggest giving Rochester a preemptive call and asking them what you should do in a worst case scenario.

I'd also suggest checking options for flying out Saturday, if you can manage it...once a weather alert goes up the airline may wave change fees.

Thank you! Just called them, hopefully everything works out. Good luck on your interview!! 🙂

Rejected just now via email (Complete early august). Kinda disappointed, but it's better than more waiting! GL to everyone still in the running!

Complete 7/10 and total silence. So interesting.

Rejected today too. Oh well..Rochester would be too cold for me anyways

Pre-interview rejection with a balanced LizzyM of 71. Stats aren't all that matter. I was complete early November so that probably hurt as well! Congrats to those who got interviews!

Dying to here back from this school!!!! Interviewed 11/15 and I'm not sure I will hear back before next year. I hate this waiting game!

Joining the pre-interview rejection party :/
complete early september

I hit the 6 week mark post-interview this past Monday. Antsy-pants. I have them.
