Rejected 10/21
Secondary submitted: 7/31
OOS, 32MCAT, 3.75GPA, URM

Rejected. 3.8/36 OOS. Complete Sept. 4th. Oh well, good luck to everyone else still in the running! :luck:

Waiting patiently for my rejection... swing the axe already Rochester.

Rejected, but was planning to withdraw later in the day as it is. No big.

With all these rejections before and after my completion date, I am trying to figure out of that is good news, or if I just happen to be next in line. :highfive::shrug:

Seriously ... No email hear yet ... I guess I survived the cuts for now?

I assume the guy whose job it is to send the rejection email has gone home for the night and will pick up where he left off tomorrow :scared:

Rejected pre-interview. Complete 7/9/13. OOS, 3.84, 37.
Good luck to everyone still in the running!

Has anyone received any interview invitations recently? If you have, when were you complete? There seemed to have been a wave of interviews in early September, but since then, I haven't seen anyone else talk about them.

I'm hoping these send some out soon, especially after that mass rejection they did ...

They gotta outweigh the bad, right?

That's really surprising that Rochester rejects such high stat people outright....

I'm starting to get worried since I'm interested in applying there next cycle.

I'm under the impression (after interviewing there) that Rochester is looking for a specific type of applicant.

I sure hope you have a strong app and you aren't relying on stats!

curious as well, what do you mean by this?

After interviewing here and getting waitlisted, I also think Rochester is trying to accept a certain type of applicant. Rochester is known as the "liberal arts school" of medical schools and it has a heavy emphasis on the connection between humanities and medicine, bioethics, and global opportunities, all things you would see in a LAC. It even has numerous medical humanities seminars that I think is unique to this school.

Personally, coming from a school that's the polar opposite of liberal arts/humanities, I think part of their reason for my waitlist is that their mission and my values don't really fit well together.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight!

I was rejected on Monday as well. Awesome school, but not my top choice so it's cool. Best of luck to everyone.

Not that I have high stats, but schools don't care about stats as much as people think. They are an easy why for us to compare ourselves to one another so they get a lot of attention. Of course a school wants to accept a person with a 38 if they are a rock star, but if another person is going to bring more to the class with a 33 they will take the 33 without thinking twice. Stats are evidence that you won't fail med school and you will do well on boards. Beyond that, they don't really matter and schools know it.

It really comes down to the volume of applicants schools receive. Most get 5,000-7,000 applicants and interview 500. Plenty of people with spectacular stats are going to get the axe. It's much more important to have meaningful experiences AND convey them well.

Yes!! This is exactly what the Associate Dean for Admissions emphasized. They stress a "biopsychosocial" model in patient interaction.

I also get an impression they are big with helping the underserved since both of my interviewers talked about the various tracks and service opportunities to help those in the city.

Coming from a medium size LAC, I found that I really connected with my interviewers on that level since I did some humanities work that's a bit unique.

Of the two interviews I've been on, this one was probably the more stress free one.

On another note, they're also constructing a new children's hospital right next to the main one that should be done in a few years.

AGREED!
I have been on a few interviews and this was the most laid back where my interviewers REALLY wanted to get to know me : )

Did the acceptance packet come with a business reply envelope? I want to make sure I did not lose it if so.

Rejected today. Complete late August. Guess I don't have to keep checking this thread.

Rejected pre-interview 10/28
Complete: 09/24/13.
3.73, 31, OOS, URM

And rejected. Looks like there is a bit of that going around today. Compete early September with a LizzyM of 72. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Sorry to hear this...did u just now get an email? Trying to tell if another wave of rejections is coming today :/

Thanks man and yeah I got it about 20 minutes ago. Wishing you and everyone else still remaining the best of luck!

Are the rejections coming via email?

I was complete early sept (10th) so I'm expecting a rejection coming uo

when were you complete?
September 29th. At least Rochester wasn't in my top 10 (nothing against Rochester--it just doesn't have a school of public health.)

Does Rochester send a complete email? When you go to the app it shows complete on there?

I was complete before some of these and haven't heard anything either way. Wondering if they are waiting on something.

I was complete in July. I still haven't heard anything! Probably a pre-interview hold. UR undergrad with 3.8gpa and 31mcat. Kind of bummed because I have been a clinical research employee here for 4 years.

I received a complete email. Not sure whether it shows on the app, haven't checked...

I was complete mid-september and just silence....

Sorry to hear about the rejections for others.

Rejected this morning pre-interview, complete 9-17, 3.7 gpa, 40 mcat, UR undergrad, worked at their hospital for over a year doing direct patient care.

Pretty disappointed. I was hoping they'd at least honor the time and money I've given them with a shot at an interview, and perhaps a waitlist spot. Oh well.

Wow, well with those numbers you are probably doing well regardless. I always thought UR was generous with giving MD interviews to its undergrads, but stingy with giving out acceptances to them.

UR undergrad with a 3.2 cGPA/2.9 sGPA/34Q MCAT, 4.0 DIY post-bacc GPA, institutional action hx at Rochester for marijuana use, and currently working as an ER tech. I was expecting to be rejected by now. I guess they are a little more generous with their undergrads pre-interview.

Hi everyone,

First time posting here so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong. This school is definitely a reach for me and my first choice. I am in a strange situation as I have not been rejected or heard anything back, and even though all of my letters and secondary have been submitted since early August, I did not receive a complete email until early October. I have tried calling them numerous times but unfortunately have not been able to reach anyone to ask about the really late complete date. Since I have not yet received a rejection, I am hoping that means I still have a shot in reaching out to them with a letter of interest. Can anyone comment on whether Rochester, and esp. MSTP admissions, is receptive to letters of interest and additional letters of recommendations (from my postbac PI).

Sorry to hear about all the rejections as of lately. Best of luck to everyone, even if Rochester was not meant to be this app cycle!

At the interview it was pretty clear they are receptive to post-interview updates and letters of interest. I have no idea if that is reflective of how they view pre-interview materials, though.

Anyone else heading up for an interview Monday? I'm starting to get angsty-pants and would like to know if there will be some friendly faces...
