And rejected just now. 🙁
It's so your interviewer has a little info about who you are. The interviews are closed file so they don't see anything except your essays that you send post-interview invite, where you went to school and your major and a few other demographic thingsDoes anyone know what the role of the essays in the interview is?
sorry to hear it! but at least you know where you stand. Waitlist sucks! And rejected just now. 🙁
I was waitlisted post-interview this past Friday. Anyone know any stats about U of R and how many people they put on post-interview waitlist or how many people typically get off? This is my dream school and I'm more than a bit upset about the whole situation.
withdrew my interview invite from here yesterday! good luck
Looks like I probably get yours 😉
So I just got an II (at 2:30 on a Sunday - huh?). I really like this school and I think it would be a good fit, but it's a $500 plane ticket from where I am. I've also already been accepted at my state school, which I also really like.
Two questions for anyone who might know:
1. This late in the cycle, are there actual spots open in the class? (I have no idea if "interviewing for a wait list" is actually a thing.)
2. How is the financial aid at this school? Money would play a big role if I were choosing between two schools that I liked.
BTW: complete late September, and as far as I can tell from the calendar, there aren't many interview spots left. Only a handful in late February and early March.
I don't know about spots, but they gave us a piece of paper at the interview that said that average indebtedness is about $160k.
Thanks for the response! I don't really trust the "average indebtedness" number - from what I understand, it includes students whose families are paying for some or all of their education, which brings down the average at a lot of private schools. If 160K was the number excluding those individuals, that's a different story.
Great! Thanks for the advice! I'm pumped!!You will have 2 closed file interviews and a group ethical discussion. They are low stressed! (Really!) You hang out in the admissions lobby/room where students stop by to grab coffee and they will stop by to talk to you about the school. I got to sit in for 10-15 minutes in a MS1 class. We took a tour of the facilities, had a short financial aid/admissions presentation and lunch with 2 students. I loved my interview day and hope this helps relieve some interview day anxiety. And I hope you do great and enjoy it!
The interviews are conversational. They genuinely want to know you and are super friendly! I was blown away and am thrilled to have an acceptance here.
Rejected today pre-interview. Complete 7/10. They really dragged that out! Good luck everyone!

First interview invite!!! Too bad I cannot make any of the available times due to having to return to work in New Zealand. Is anyone with interviews in mid to late Feb willing to swap times for 27 Feb or early March by any chance?
I emailed Mary Staie and she just told me that a spot opened up. Thanks for the advice and I shall see anyone who is interviewing on Feb 6th!Call them and let them know and ask to be put on a waiting list or something for an earlier date. People cancel often
Pre-interview or Post-interview waitlist? What do we know about the waitlist?
Post interviewPre-interview or Post-interview waitlist?
I asked this question before and people said it doesn't move muchPost interview
Depends on whether you are High Priority or not. I know they said they don't rank, but that's not really true. If you look at previous years' forums, you'll see that around March-April some applicants get an email telling them that they are on a High Priority List and that they are very likely to be taken off the waitlist. If you don't get this email, then you are basically waiting for a rejection. I'm not sure how accurate that is or whether or not it is just a hoax, but I did read about it in at least the forums from the last two years. This is my top choice so I'm dying to get off their waitlist myself and with no acceptances yet I will believe just about anything now! hahaPost interview
Hi all, accepted student here: I have a quick question.
From my understanding, Rochester does not give out estimated financial info to students until after May 15th. However, if we have multiple acceptances, how can I make an educated decision between schools when one school gives an estimated cost of attendance and the other doesn't? I am referring to monetary awards and/or loans given by the school.
Money is a pretty important factor for me, so Rochester not giving me the information I need makes it difficult to compare certain attributes.
Does anyone here have some insight on this topic? Thanks for any responses!

I believe this is incorrect.
I expect the financial aid info to be released in late April, but they officially promise that they will get it to you by the first week of May:

ahstern, out of curiosity, why did you go in hoping you wouldn't like U of R?
(Congrats, btw. I was accepted too and will most likely attend so maybe I'll meet you in August? 🙂 )
I can completely relate to this, 100%. The location is not where I pictured myself, and the school was only barely on my radar when I applied. However, once I arrive, I fell in love with the program, the facility, and the philosophy they promote.I mean, it was kind of tongue in cheek, but I had imagined myself at a city school (NYC or Boston), and there's just so much snow up there! Rochester's the only place I applied to without immediate family nearby.
But I truly loved the school and the city and I kind of understood what people meant talking about 'fit'!

"Fit" is mostly why I'm inclined to choose UofR over my state school. If an applicant holds multiple acceptances, the general SDN advice for that person seems to be to go with whichever school is cheapest, but it seems to me that going where you think you can excel--based not a little on how well you see yourself meshing with students and the school, i.e. "fit"--needs heavy consideration as well. (I'm oversimplifying a little here.)
I am in the same position also. I love U of R but my state school is such a bargain! But I can't deny my fit for Rochester. I just can't wait for second look!
I stayed with a student host, which worked out very well. The interview for MD is just one day long.Hey all, I've an interview coming up at UofR in a couple of weeks (in Feb). Any suggestions on where to stay? Also, is the interview over one day or two days. I know their MD/PHD program has a 2 day interview. Hence asking.
