This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rejection via e-mail today, complete 10/30/13. Good luck everyone!

Does Keck accept pre-interview update letters/letters of intent?

Does Keck rereview app posted interview throughout the season or is that only done after may 15?

Sent from my phone.

MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE! I'M GOING TO MEDICAL SCHOOL!!! :biglove:

I interviewed mid December! Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear back!

Same story... Did you interview on the 13th?

Super stoked for my first acceptance! 3.9/40/IS

Does anybody know if Keck has a second look weekend?

Been complete here since late July and no word yet...what is going on? Anyone else in my boat?

+1. I'm guessing silent rejection, but I could be wrong. Submitted/complete first week of August and not a word.

USC is pretty-reject happy. They don't wait to tell people. If you haven't heard anything I'd say you're still in the running.

@goodguygreg: If you haven't heard anything since you were complete in July, you might want to call in just to ask about your status. That is quite a long time to wait.

Has anyone ever called/emailed and inquired about the status of their application with any success?

I thought they were quick to reject also. I'm definitely going to give them a call soon. I report back if I have any success. Last time I called they said there is nothing more that they can tell me, so we will see.

Does anyone have any tips for USC's interview day? Anything in particular I should be aware of besides the delicious cookies.

Yes please let us know! I'm interested to hear what they say. Good luck. 🙂

Some tips/info about the interview day:
  • It is closed interview (both physician and student interviewers have never seen your app)
  • The dean of admissions is one of the coolest people I've met
  • It is a low pressure interview setting... don't sweat it too hard
  • Speaking of sweat... some of the interview rooms are in the sun and don't have good air circulation. If you are feeling too hot, don't be afraid to take your jacket off (I asked my interviewer)
  • The cookies are the real reason I want to go here
Feel free to message me if you have any further questions... good luck!

Depending on where you're traveling from and if you've never been to LA, be aware if you're going to hit traffic. It can easily add 30+ minutes to a commute if you're caught in rush hour so just plan accordingly!

Is anyone else here interviewing on 1/31? Or does anyone know if it is easy to navigate public transportation from the campus to the Burbank airport?

So I called them today and the lady on the phone absolutely refused to give any further information regarding my app. However I tried to ask her/phrase a question about my app, she kept directing me to the online portal. She also wouldn't give me any info on approximate dates we would hear anything. So that's that.

Bummer. Thanks for trying and letting us know.

mid September. It was a 'no news is good news' situation...until it was bad news.

Sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing your stats please? I was complete mid September as well and I haven't heard anything yet.

Hey guys, I was complete here in July. Haven't heard anything as of yet.

Would any of you know how a pre-interview LOI would be received? Negatively, positively, don't care, etc?

They are very against post-interview LOI's... so I would imagine the same for pre

What is public transportation?? Seriously, consider a taxi, Uber, renting a car, etc.

I took the bus from LAX to ucla (stayed with my sister there pre-interview). It was a little bit delayed, but if you're not in a hurry, i.e. have a couple hours before your flight, it might work. And it was only $1.

I always used my google maps and click on the public transport button (the bus sign) to get around in cities i interviewed at. Saved me sooo much money and was incredibly easy (it tells you exactly where to go, what bus to catch and often how much the fare is). Just a general tip. Of course it only works if you're not too much in a time crunch.

Yeah, LAX to UCLA is different. LAX is a bigger airport and DGSOM is on the main university campus with a zillion students in a bustling part of the city.. I'm sure there's a way to get from Bob Hope to HSC, but I don't think it's the best option or worth the trouble.
