So, OOSers, how are you getting into Morgantown?

Seems like the flight options are best flying into Pittsburgh, and then bus to Morgantown. I'm coming from Wisconsin, thinking I might just drive the 10 hours.

I'm flying to Pittsburg and driving. I can rent a car for what the bus costs.

Is anyone interviewing 9/26? I'm driving from Pittsburgh and wondered if anyone would like to share the rental car with me.

It was a great interview today, very laid back. Good luck to everyone. Hopefully we'll hear something in about a month.👍

Did they mostly ask you stuff off your primary, or were there any off-the-wall questions?

The questions were very much focused on my primary app. A lot of expanding on things in the app. There were no weird questions. It was a two on one interview with an attending emergency medicine physician and a fourth year student. Both were friendly and seemed like they aimed to be advocates for me, wanting to best represent me to the rest of the adcom. It was a very good experience. The best advice is to be familiar with your primary app, though this really doesn't require much effort considering the time spent working on it.

Thanks for the insight! I'm excited about my interview. Still a month away though :/

so, the sonographer, please state for the record your impressions of wvusom and motown for those other applicants who may be interested...

I love the area, beautiful rural countryside. And of course they have an impressive program. The following really sold me on the program:

-ranked 3rd in the nation for their rural medicine program
-rural opportunities throughout but especially at the eastern campus
-problem based learning (PBL) sessions for putting what's learned in lecture to practice
-they bring in different lecturers (sort of experts in the field) for different parts of the course
-interaction with standardized patients started early in the program

Of course I can't complain that they have a class in ultrasound for the physician, integrated into the program. Additionally, it seems as though there are a lot of outdoor activities to fill what little free time a med student has. Also, they've got a 100% pass rate for step 1 & 2 the year before last and probably this last year also! There are many wonderful things about this school and town, I'm sure I'm missing something.

aw hell, i was going to offer up a quick tour to a fellow southerner, but i have 2 block exams on the 18th 😱

I appreciate it all the same. Sounds like you're going to have your hands full!

Hey first time poster on SDN.
Got my II a few days ago! 11/14! A little later than I was hoping, but still PUMPED! Anyone else that day?

Congrats on the II ! When did you send in your materials? I overnighted mine on 9/3 and get nervous every time I check the mailbox!

Congrats! I wonder how they chose interview dates. I received my II last week, but my interview is a week after yours.

I got my secondary 9/6 and postmarked it 9/8. I got an email 9/14 saying they received it. I'm sure yours is on its way!

GJDM: Ya, not quite sure how they do their interview scheduling, but good luck on your interview!

Rejected before secondary. Nice. 🙁

3.76c, 3.86s, 3.97g

mcat?

at least they saved you the secondary app fee ahead of time.

I took it September 11, and I'm waiting for my score. At least I know not to waste my money on this school next year too, lol. Good luck to all! 🙂

interesting. they held my app until my mcat score came in and then processed it. you being oos and i am guessing no ties (a big deal here) made their decision for them i suppose.

good luck with your other apps.

I'm sure that they had other reasons not to want me especially considering everyone who I know of IRL who have been accepted are OOSers. They probably just have a very high-qualified applicant pool this year that leaves me in the dust. I'm over it. 😳

so has anyone gotten a secondary but rejected for the interview? im trying to figure out if secondary=interview is a rumor or not. also does the secondary have to be in their mailbox at the 2 weeks mark or mailed by 2 weeks?

Curious about this myself, my online secondary was submitted 8/22 and my snail mail package sent a few days later but I haven't heard anything yet. My check was deposited 9/6 so I know they got everything. Anyone have an idea on what the turnaround time is?

Secondary does not mean an interview. The last few years threads have proven this. Reasons for not receiving an interview after completion of a secondary may be lack of IS ties or poorly written secondary essays.

Pretty sure it says to call if you don't hear from them within a month of submitting your secondary. So I would try that first.

Does anyone know how the traffic is going back up to Pittsburgh after the interview at 4:00 pm? Would I be able to make a 7 pm flight?

it's not terrible if you leave right at 4...youll make it there by 5 which is more than enough time for a 7 flight!

You could probably make it, but I would suggest asking Beth Ann if you could be one of the first to interview. I was the first on my day and I was done by 1:30. That way you would definitely have enough time.

I have no ties and stated that in the secondary, but still got an interview; there's hope : )

Yeah, in a few days it will have been a month since I submitted (by mail). I received that email "your only confirmation will be in the form of a mailed interview letter" about 2.5 wks ago. Is that considered hearing from them?

Anyone that didn't receive an interview letter and decides to call, let us know what they say

Hello all, I have a question about this school's LOR requirements. Do they really need a science letter from someone other than your major?

Thanks

For those of you that have interviewed, what time were you done? I have to catch a 7:15 pm flight out of PIT (1.5 hours from WVU?) to get back in time to teach the following day. Are they at all flexible with what time you interview? Thank you all in advance : )

I had this question last year and from what I've heard they're pretty strict about it. I just got a throw away letter from a professor from a class with 100+ people just to fill the requirement then got an extra science letter from my major to supplement it.

I would talk to Beth Ann about being the first to interview on your day. I'm not sure, but I would guess it wouldn't be much of a problem.

My interview is on 11/22, but I've already made arrangements to fly out west for a wedding on 11/20. I tried to reschedule with beth, but looks like the earliest available date is in january. If someone has an interview before the end of this year and would like to swap with me, please let me know.

Edit: no longer looking to swap

Thanks for the reply and advice, Mountaineer12.

I have one more question regarding LORs. From the WVU's website, I kind of got the impression that they would print out your 3 letters of recommendation, and thats it. anything extra you have to mail in.

well I accidently sent this school two extra letters, but I have since set my AMCAS to send them the personal LOR and the science letter (from a class outside your major) that they ask for. is this okay? I'm concerned whether I should be sending these mandatory letters through mail, or will they just disregard the two extraneous letters I sent them.

I received an interview for 12/12... I'd be interested in a swap for 11/20 for sure! It's my finals week then. Let me know how we should go about this.

they'll get whatever you send through amcas, dont sweat it

So I know WVU snail-mails IIs but I just got an email from Beth Ann about the parking situation on interview days. And while a mass email, it says "in the letter you received about your interview..."

I haven't checked the mail yet but does this mean I got an II?

Edit for info: I submitted 9/14, 30 MCAT, 3.7 GPA
Certainly sounds that way! Congrats!!

I got the same message. It says "I look forward to meeting you at your interview" so I'm taking it to mean II. Congrats to you as well!

I am in a similar dilemma with my flight leaving that night. I called them and asked and they said I should be fine for a flight time around then. I would call them if I were you just to double check.
