She was also 10 min late to my interview because she wanted to talk to the admissions office about her latest botox job (which I heard from the waiting area), and answered her phone in the middle of the interview to talk to her son for 5 minutes. Interviewed here late November but no response yet. I wonder if that's basically a rejection...
 
Has anyone heard new IIs? I sent them an update they said they added it to my file.
I am still hoping, will not stop.
No news MUST be good news.

They don't seem to do silent rejections, I hate those.
 
They are probably overwhelmed by the mass of applications that came in at the end of the application deadline haha.
 
i didn't actually remember to ask on my interview day when i'd hear back (it was a crazy day during a blizzard and a lot of cancellations)...just emailed admissions and they said essentially there's no way to know, but that it's rolling and they have a gazillion apps to process!

has anyone interviewed recently who got a time estimate? (i saw a post by someone who said 8 weeks from their mid-january interview)
 
How come people from December have heard back and not those from September??? (I'm Dec, but still...) This wait's killing me lol

Rejected post interview. Not surprised at all, I was already accepted to Downstate by the time I interviewed and was only willing to even consider attending if I was completely blown away by the school. Not to mention my phone went off during the interview, I had no sleep the night before so I was dozing off during the interview, and my interviewer and I didn't really connect on any level. If I lived closer to Einstein, I'd probably go though. It's a really good school.

To be honest, if you really preferred your experience at Einstein over Downstate, I see no reason financially why you shouldn't go to Einstein. Sure, tuition at AE is around 9k a year more, but if you spend $500/month more for rent at Downstate, you'll end up paying only 3k more per year at Einstein, totaling 12k in 4 years. By the time you make a stable earning (5-6 years post med school) $12k will be so little that you'll regret choosing a school you were less happy at.

Downstate probably has better clinical exposure but Einstein has better research opportunities. And Einstein's area is much nicer than Downstate's. And this is coming from someone who got rejected from Einstein and accepted to Downstate. Overall, both are great schools. If cost is the only thing hindering you from AE, I say go to AE and worry about the minor finances later.

I don't think you understand how interest works. Especially given that 6 years after school, some people will have had 3+ years of residency as well depending on what they're doing (some up to 5 years and fellowship on top of that).

Even with interest, a 12k difference is relatively little if it means one's happiness at a particular school.

No, I don't think you understand how it works. 8 years of interest on a loan of 150k versus 162k is not a big deal. If you wanna look at the loan on each individual dollar be my guess. But for the sake of someone's happiness I think it's a good investment.

PV 12,000; I 6.8; 96 monthly; 0 payments; FV= 20,642.89. So your 12k extra becomes about 20k although it'll be a bit less since all the principal won't be taken up front but rather a quarter for each of the first four years... not a HUGE deal but definitely something to consider.
 
I know people that went to Ivies that go to both Einstein and Downstate and they are incredibly happy with where they are.

They're both awesome schools with a lot going for them.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. You can pay back loans but unless the financial gap is significant (~15k+ per year), I'd go with the school you'd be happier with attending. Plus, Einstein's just an incredible school with so much research to offer! It's a very hard pass, even if it means an extra 12-20k over four years.
 
Any acceptance luck previous years with late interview dates, or generally waitlist/rejection? I'm scheduled to interview on Tuesday, but am having second thoughts due to forecasted whether, as I'll be driving 6 hours to and from.

There are definitely people that get in after late interviews. You may get wait listed first though.

Perusing through last year's thread you will see a lot of acceptances in Feb and onwards off the "High Priority Waitlist." Not sure if they are doing HP this year.
 
I recently received an interview invite for early April - I was wondering if you all thought that it is possible for an interview this late in the season to yield an acceptance to Einstein or if I would be interviewing for the wait-list?
 
Just got the high priority waitlist email. Interviewed mid January. No clue how to feel about this. My number one choice by far, but now sure of how the movement is here. Should I send any updates or letter of intents asap or wait a bit?

I thought this was my best interview. Just goes to show you how strange the process is. On a good note someone mentioned a few pages ago that most of the hpwl end up accepted. Can anytime comment on how true this is?
 
Looking at last year's thread, most acceptances were off the HP list.
 
I'm interviewing soon; any last minute tips? Also, does anyone who interviewed recently know about how long it will be until they release decisions?
 
Also, does anyone know if the scholarship applications are considered when they are deciding who to pull off the waitlist? I imagine that if you're good enough for a scholarship, they probably want to accept you, but the processes could be separate.
